    I’ve been a mostly straight natural for about two years and I love it! My curls are still healthy, but I see a natural stylist every two weeks so I attribute her skill for keeping my hair healthy!

    Didn’t realize there was a name to it so am now realizing I prefer to be a straight natural! I’ve entered a new role in my career and as a mom, wife, member of my church, I have less time to do my curly hair. Honestly straightening my hair is easier than wash and go’s and I am GUARANTEED to like my results vs a hit or miss with curly styles. I hate that my curls don’t last more than a day or 2 and result in a bun.
    I also cut my hair from waist to slightly above my shoulders bc I literally could not handle it anymore. Looking forward to trying the roller sets! Appreciate your content very much! God bless sis!!

    I love the straight natural trend it helps with low manipulation personally and allows for full 7-10 days between wash days. I’d love to hear more about what was an indicator for you that you were not idolizing your hair anymore

I swear my hair looks longer every wash day and this is the lowest maintenance style i think ive ever had.

      I recently heard about this straight natural term which I suppose I am and have been for over twenty years. When I graduated from college and got a “real” job, I wanted to spend a little bit of my money on professional hairstyling and wanted to get my hair highlighted. Well we all know bleach and relaxed hair do not go together! I decided at that point that color was more important to me than relaxed hair. No big chop and usually only wore my hair in its curly state during the summer since I live in a hit, humid area. I went no relaxer before it was the movement it is now and with all the incredible products for taking care of our hair in its curly state.
      Anyhow, I’ve long found the downside of the hair empowering moment, which I’m all for to have a little bit of us versus them when it came to “natural” versus relaxed. Like my Momma and Dad would say , all hair is good hair. I think the natural hair movement added some toxicity to the moment when we all should have proud and happy embracing the beautiful journey and power of our hair. It’s ironic that somehow wearing one’s hair curly meant it was natural when in fact, all hair that grows out of our heads is natural. Some like me choose to highlight my hair and wear it straight normally and others choose to wear it curly but we both have natural hair.
      In short, I think these labels can further divide us like it did back i. the day with “good hair” Anyhow, as far as it being a trend, i’m not sure it is a trend or maybe it is in the social media world but it’s just another way to do one’s hair.
      It seems that many folks are going to the straight hair look for a variety of reasons to include the time required to maintain curly hair seems to be a lot. What is especially great about this “trend” is that folks are focusing on the health of hair and not looking at those who wear their hair straight as trying to strive towards a certain beauty standard. Those of us with textured hair are blessed with hair that is powerful and versatile and we create our own beauty standards that others are constantly copying.
      As always, thanks for the message and the great hair tips! I’ve followed you for. long time and your content has always been informative and uplifting ❤ I’m still on the fence about buying that dryer! I have a soft bonnet one I use but the one you have might be a better option for me to focus on myself instead of trying to do my hair while sitting in one location! The cord is pretty long, so i’ll try to take care of other chores instead of focusing on my time to relax. ❤

    Great video. I can relate as I currently dont have the energy to moisturize and do my whole natural hair routine as often as I should. I don't know if a chop will help, but it's good to know I'm not alone. I try to make it "pamper time," but maybe it's just a point in time I will push through. 🙃 P.S. I don't see the rolllerset playlist.

      I have 3c/4a hair i been rollersetting all year. I use a hot brush or flat iron on just my roots all year...my curls are absolutely intact. You just need proper heat protectants. I also use mid week as needed no damage.
      Flat irons make sleeker longer lasting hair but the brush is less heat IMO.

    • @JadeGodbolt
      @JadeGodbolt  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! So for most natural hair, you need a direct heat step to lock in the roller set so it doesn’t revert. If you have a relaxer then you can skip this step. You can use a blowout brush like I did on this video or you can use a flat iron or blow dryer with a round brush. This is a video on how I preserve my roller sets! th-cam.com/video/Pi14_x-JmJk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SZbyVhnpNl-6a1gn

    My hair is natural and maybe 3C. I’m in Houston where it’s humid so I’m mostly curly all year around but I also missed straightening my hair sometimes. I would consider this but I wonder if this would work on my hair since my hair is grown out layers but the longest layer is to my butt. So I think it might take me forever to for my hair to dry.

    • @JadeGodbolt
      @JadeGodbolt  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It may take your hair an hour or 2 under the hooded dryer but you can definitely do it! With the humidity, just use an anti-humidity spray like the Color wow dream coat while your hair is still damp before the rollers go in!

  • @lashante2793

    Ok. Im sorry for this question. But why do the heated brush? Im so confused lol. Like do heated brushes make the curls last longer after doing a roller set. The roller set gives curls and then we are using a heat brush to provide curls also. Im lost. I purchased the rollers and love how my roller sets come out because of you. So thank you so much. But I am sooooo confused on the purpose of the roller brush before I purchase. Can you explain please? Thank you in advance.

    • @heavaforeva
      @heavaforeva หลายเดือนก่อน

      I seal my roller sets with a steam flat iron..just helps seal moisture and smooth it..but it's still volumizing..

    • @JadeGodbolt
      @JadeGodbolt  หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      Of course!! So with certain hair textures, most natural hair I'd say, needs an additional direct heat step after doing the rollers to lock in the style. The Dominicans do a round brush blow out with a blow dryer, the Ethiopians do the flat iron step like I do, but I am always looking for ways to remove the flat iron step without my hair reverting. I've tried doing no flat iron or just saran wrapping my hair after the roller take down and my hair always frizzed up a few hours later. The Amika brush is unique in the sense that the heated base gives you the direct heat aspect you need while still supporting the original curl formed from the rollers. Whenever I flat iron, I have to re-roll the hair immedietly into a roller and then let them cool to maintain the curl from the rollers (and even then, I still lose some curl). Using the Amika brush eliminated the need to pin or roll my hair back up for a 2nd time (which cut off about 30 min of my usual hair styling time!) Hope that made sense!

    • @parisz
      @parisz หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The rollers are used to stretch the hair, after that she's basically doing a blowout which gives the curls a more smooth finish. Personally I think the rollers are enough by themselves, the round brush seems invasive and unnecessary but, then again she has thiiiick hair so

      @@JadeGodboltThanks for that explanation. I was wondering the same thing. My hair is relaxed, and if I did the heated brush or flat iron after my roller set, I’d lose a of the curl definition. Opposite effect. Good information to know.

    The results are great. Love the bouncy curly look, but you're still using heat twice. Once with the hairdryer and then more heat with the heated roller brush after. Where is the no heat part? I do the lotta body mousse rollerset with no hairdyer heat. I just let it air dry. Take my rollers out, and I'm done. Rake my fingers through, and I'm out the door. No heat used, and it comes out just like yours.😊

      Heat in general is not bad for our hair- when you know how to use it correctly! This process that I do is safe for my hair and causes no damage. Everyone’s hair is different - for me I have to do the heat process to lock in the style. I’ve tried not doing it and ended up with frizzy hair 2 hrs later lol I wish I could do like you and just take the rollers down but not my reality and that’s okay! We do what works for us and carry on! ❤️
