- On Sunday, August 13th, 2023, I chased Reading and Northern's second Iron Horse Ramble of 2023 with T-1 steam locomotive #2102. Beginning the day at the steam shop as the crew prepares the massive 4-8-4 for the excursion, we travel to Reading Outer Station where we begin our chase of the ramble to Jim Thorpe and back in an all-day venture. Additionally, I specifically caught this ramble at various points along the mainline that I had never caught #2102 at before, some of which I had never even filmed before!
This Iron Horse Ramble also featured several celebrations. The first of which was the birthday of Reading and Northern CEO Andy Muller Jr. and Reading and Northern steam locomotive engineer/fireman Shane Frederickson. Additionally, this year Reading and Northern Railroad is celebrating its 40th Anniversary, leading to the creation of the 40th Anniversary Unit #2023 which is seen on display within Port Clinton as #2102 makes a station stop.
In a fitting manner for these celebrations, #2102 hauled an impressive 18-car passenger consist on the 120-mile round trip traveling as train OSJT from Reading to Jim Thorpe and return, resulting in both an amazing visual and auditory show!
Lastly, this chase may be my last one on the Reading and Northern until the fall season, as I will soon begin my first year of college. More info will be coming on this soon. To make the most of this situation, I decided to hold a personal "one spot photo shoot" with my dad's 1968 Ford Grand Torino to recreate a 1960s-type scene!
I hope that you enjoy this chase of Reading and Northern's incredible #2102!!

Such a great vid Collin. Your Dad's '68 GT Fastback Coupe is stunning and complements that River Rd catch perfectly!! Amazing job!!
Will be taking the #2102 on the 5/25/24 Ramble and am truly looking forward to it. The last time I was on a steamer was back in the '60s on the DO Line in Oneonta NY!
Thanks! Glad that you enjoyed it! I will also be taking that ride on May 25th this year and very much look forward to it; hope you enjoy it as well!
That was awesome!! Lots of great catches! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks for watching!
Nice Job Collin! That Port clinton departure shot was one of the best I seen of 02 leaving, was good talking to ya at reading at the end of the day!
Thanks! Yeah it was pretty epic to see it depart Port Clinton, especially because they cleared out the whole yard. Nice chatting with you in reading as well, and looking forward to your catches!
Fantastic Job man!!! Great shots!!! Great meeting you up there!!!
Thank you! Nice meeting you as well!
Great Video! We definitely were standing next to each other for the 270 scene. I was the one in the blue jeans and grey shirt with the black camera backpack.
Yes we were! Nice meeting you there and glad you were able to get some good catches, including the car lol
@@PANortheasternRailfan Thanks! Same to you as well.
Awesome catches and excellent video collin
Thank you very much Westley!
You're welcome
Fantastic video man!! It was nice meeting up with you again!
Thank you!! It was nice meeting up with you again as well!
They really put on a great showing this trip, wish i couldve made it. Well done.
Thanks! Wish you could’ve made it too, will you be out for any fall trips?
@@PANortheasternRailfan hoping to be there for the last of the fall trips hopefully when the foliage peaks.
@@14thStreetProductions pretty much what I was thinking too; hope to see you!
that intro is wildddd W shots all around man. i wish i woudve seen you along the way!
Oh yeah! One of my most favorite clips with 2102 now! Wish I could’ve seen you as well but, I’m sure we will bump into each other eventually on one of these trips!
Great work!
Thank you!
Amazing video! I was at the station when it arrived.
Thank you! Hope you got some good shots!
Excellent job, Collin! And I'm glad we met up at a number of places throughout the day. I had to come back after the premier to catch the opening scenes, and wanted to say they turned out awesome. It's great when you can envision and idea and then execute it so perfectly!
Thanks Jamie! I honestly had a ton of fun yesterday, and was very glad with all the spots we caught together. Doing this little shot was really a lot of fun, and I really do think I wanna get into charters someday!
How about an all B&W video of 2102 some time?
@@1940limited not a bad idea!
Thanks!@@PANortheasternRailfan
@@PANortheasternRailfan that would be great to see you get into charters! Maybe something I'd do too someday if I had more time.
A video of 2102 done in B&W would be really neat and appear to be more like the original rambles. Maybe some of the expert videographers out there might consider doign that some time.
Dang that was a good chase! You had a ton of great shots!
Thanks! Yeah I was very happy with how everything went, very little that I would want to be different
Well, since former GTW 6325 is in hibernation in Sugar Creek, OH at the AOS Roundhouse, (which NOBODY wants to talk about), this is a great choice. May you run well and await your sister, 2100 for a double header.
Can’t wait for that!
Wait 2102 has 2 whistles? Amazing shot with 2023 as well. All in all, fantastic cheches.
Thank you! Yep, one is it’s original Reading freight whistle (loud and shrill) and the other is the passenger Reading 6 chime and is more melodic
@@PANortheasternRailfan Loud and shrill being the Hooter
@@CalvinBonawitz indeed!
Wow I knew the 1 was the 6 chime but I thought they switched the 2 that's really cool. Thow that they can do that. Thankyou@@PANortheasternRailfan
14:14 feisty wheel slip!
It was epic!
I was riding in the vestibule leaving Port Clinton between the King Coal and Pullman and got it on video. Only thing is after the wheel slip all the cars get a big jolt.
@@CalvinBonawitz I can imagine! I bet it’s kinda fun though lol
I was on the train third coach in the rust colored hat
Cool! Hope you had a nice ride!
