We have been "homesteading" our entire lives, mistakes happen to the best of us! You live and you learn that's for sure! Aww, hate it when that happens. FYI, a piece of PVC with three screws drilled into it makes for a great shucker. Adjust dept of screws to accommodate the diameter of any size ears you're dealing with (can even do three on each end if you want one end for narrow end of the cob and the other end for the thicker end of the cob). So much easier on the fingers!
Wow that was very interesting about the popcorn. I’m sorry the bugs got a hold of some of it. I love how the kids play out in the yard barefooted no coats however, they want more children today. Should be doing that instead of staying on the couch with their phones in their hands, you are raising them up right and I love your videos. I can watch them all day long. I’ve been watching so many of your older ones and I’m still enjoying them. Thank you.❤
Have you ever tried the strawberry popcorn . It is very tasty and really makes wonderful decorations for fall and winter. I’ve grown it several times and never been disappointed . I enjoy the smaller kernels it pops and the cobs do look like a strawberry . I truly enjoy watching you and your family.
You all did a great job today, The children had a great time with their project and they were safe and warm enough for what they were doing HAVING FUN !! Ma and Pa were doing what needed to be done trying to salvage some of the popcorn gone wrong and they are old and need to keep warm so they did and got the popcorn they could salvage. Thank you for taking us along with you on this video, you all are doing a fine job both on the farm and as parents, it's amazing the skills your children have already learned from you two taking the time to be with them and teaching them those skills. Stay safe and keep up the fun and fantastic videos. Fred.
You're so right. This corn is so good. I only grow it every few years and store it in the freezer. Wondering if it would still germinate after that long.
It is a hard lesson. My first crop of field corn did not get shelled quick enough and it had weevils. 2021 I did much better at getting ahead of them even though I had some it was minimal. This year I grew blue Hopi and shelled them at a good time. From shelling they go to freezer then I thaw ….give them a week at room temperature and then back to freezer. When I take them out again and thaw I will put in gamma sealed bucket with oxygen absorbers. 2021 corn stored that way is still perfect👍🏼
Oh no weavals yep that's what we call them in the flour, rice etc. popcorn too. It goes from one bag of stuff to another y'all getting in the Christmas spirit. God's blessings 🙏❤
Waah! I'm sorry that happened. I was so interested in trying your popcorn. I'll be patient until next year. Hopefully you'll have enough to sell. God bless you and your family. ♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏✝️
New subscriber here. I have been binge watching your videos. I appreciate y'all's transparency. People need to see the failures and setbacks along with the successes. Failures and setbacks are successes in their own right if we learn from them. We own HallowedAcres Farm in Georgia and we have lots of learning experiences. Keep doing what y'all are doing. God Bless.
You guys I am so sorry. I made a horrible mistake with my 700 pounds of potatoes that froze this week. My mistake I thought they were protected. Im just sick about it. But then again we are all doing the best we know to do. And learning some very valuable and costly lessons!!
I am so sorry to hear this, we unfortunately experienced the same thing last year. Our potatoes froze and rotted and we lost a lot of them. Hoping our method this year works better!
Y’all want to hear a dirty joke? A white horse fell in the mud…. 😂😂❤ Jacob, Maggie what an Awesome 👏 job! Love the pond addition! Shoot, growing up, you could never keep clothes on me, nor my daughter, and shoes, please, my husband still gets on me about not wearing them. He says, he married a true Mississippi girl! Ewww, Andy, I can’t unknow that about weevils! Sorry for y’all’s loss, Thank you for sharing with us! ❤
Sorry y’all lost most of your popcorn. But, I think it’s awesome that y’all share your mistakes with others. Everything is trial & error! It’s great how tough your kids are, they were having a grand ole time. I think you both are great parents ❤
I love how true and down to earth you all are ❤️ I'm so sorry about the popcorn 😩 I LOVE watching the kids play like that!! It brings back so many childhood memories. They, in turn, are going to have such beautiful memories because of how you are raising them ☺️
THANK YOU THANK-YOU THANK YOU!! As soon as you’ll started talking about the weevils in the popcorn, I hit pause and flew out to the kitchen. I brought a bushel basket of popcorn on the cob in the house about three weeks ago. Thank God, no weevils. Back to the corn crib it went. But thank you for sparking my awareness to the fact and the tip on freezing. Would have hated to have lost any, but imagine all those hatched out weevils in my house. Wouldn’t have been a good thing at all. 😂😂😂
Dont give up on the corn for seed just yet. I have wanted to do an experiment to see if a grain would sprout that had a bug hole in it. Im hoping and begging, 😂 if you ould do a germination test on some grains that bugs got in. The bug egg was in the starchy part of the kernel and not the heart so i think, thik being the operative word, that the grain will sprout and grow in spite of the bug. I know mice and squirrels will eat the heart and that will kill it. All my seed corn stays in freezer and i have been hoping to do this test for years but just hasn't been in the cards. I sure hope you can save enough to have popcorn this winter. Have a blessed day.
I went to grocery store yesterday and Lard was on my list. They had none. Crisco and the store brand were Vegetable based stuff. I did find some bacon grease, so I bought a small container to use in the next batch of cornbread. You sell Lard?
I'm confused. By your description, those bugs are inside all your kernels all winter. Aren't you now eating popcorn with cooked bugs in them? And how do you use some for seed if the warm spring weather causes the bugs to eat your seed kernels? Help me understand!
I've never completely read up on it, but I found this helpful article and learned some myself reading it! I hope this explains it better! extension.psu.edu/angoumois-grain-moth
Unless you grow EVERYTHING on your farm you have eaten weevils in your food. Now if you never purchased grits, meal or any dry products from the store. Most likely some type of critter is in that bag.Now if you have ALWAYS froze your stuff then you are good. This is the importance of praying over your food stuff and food.
So sorry for your loss. I don't care how long someone has been farming/ranching we learn something new. Mistakes will happen, bad weather will happen. No one is perfect except for our Lord and Savior Jesus. Hang in there ya'll. Love your channel. 🙏
What do you mean you can't "do anything with them?" Aren't you the parent? All children need that parental guidance through it ALL. They need to be taught to listen. Let's say they get sick...who misses work to care for them? Who has to pay a doctor bill?
They were blocked from the wind in a warm sunny spot, Andy and I were not. My kids are tough as nails and when warranted yes I do MAKE them have appropriate clothes on. They have enough since to know whether they are cold or not. Kids are not the pansies the world makes them out to be.
You must have not seen many of her videos. Their kids do listen. Their kids are healthy, happy and very well taken care of. Like she wrote, they have since of their own. If I had kids, I would pray they behaved just like hers! Beautiful family!

Do you have a video of composting
an older one but nothing recent as our animals now do all our composting
Love you guys
Another lovely video.
Lots of chicken feed. Question? What's the difference between popcorn and the dried corn you use for cornbread?
popcorn is a smaller kernel and will pop once its heated , field corn has a bigger kernel

No we’ve wanted to but never have!
So sorry guys 😢
Thanks for sharing. Live and learn! I was the same way as a kid...no shoes...no jacket
Some of the most important lesson I' learned farming I learned the hard way. The great thing about those lessons is you never forget them.

It probably will

Yes lesson learned here!
Oh I hate this so bad for you. That corn looked so good when ya'll picked it.
I certainly learned a lot from this video. Ive never seen anyone do popcorn. Thanks for the lesson ya'll. God bless.
Oh no weavals yep that's what we call them in the flour, rice etc. popcorn too. It goes from one bag of stuff to another y'all getting in the Christmas spirit. God's blessings 🙏❤
Sorry about the popcorn!! Dang after all that hard work but at least you got enough to eat
Waah! I'm sorry that happened. I was so interested in trying your popcorn. I'll be patient until next year. Hopefully you'll have enough to sell. God bless you and your family. ♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏✝️
I am so sorry for the disappointment we were really hoping to have some for yall! We had to learn a tough lesson that's for sure!
@@TrueGritAppalachianWays it's ok. Lesson learned. God bless each of y'all 🙏 ❤
We use the same fan method to winnow our corn for cornmeal.

Kids are built different arent they? :) The cold weather doesnt seem to bother them like it does us.

i got some chestnuts from my ex-husband's grandparents and after a few days something started chewing it's way out.
You can still feed it to chickens. Not a total waste.
always some un popped popcorn. 🌽 good thing its delicious~! army corps of engineer's apprentices there~!
Can you feed the chickens with it?
Absolutely ☺️
Yaw have a good day
you mean we are eating bugs when we eat fresh corn?

Animal feed now I wouldn’t try to eat it

It’s a figure of speech, a joke
