A game you buy for 60$ should not have any "Micro-Transactions," it can appear like a good idea for people who are short on time, but in the end, the game mechanics always change to push you towards spending real money on things, that in the past, you would have gotten in a timely fashion, or just had access to.
I'm with Ashley. What I did was I got all 3 Mass Effect games for $40 and I was so happy. I was all proud when I made my character and went in I was like "Yeah! This is gonna be great! I can't wait!" And that was quickly overwhelmed by the hatred of Mass Effect 1. See, I am a sniper...I think that alone will explain what was wrong with that game for me. The sniper flails around like you're drunk no matter how much you level it up. It really does, I fully upgraded it. And even then, the Mako was TERRIBLE. Floatiest driving I've ever seen in my life.

I loved the planet exploration on Mass Effect 1 and also loved all the weapons and upgrades you could get. ME2 felt so dumbed down from ME1 and felt less like an RPG IMO.

I could be wrong here, but I assumed the reason you couldn't fly planes in GTA IV was because it was set in New York City. It's not that they couldn't program it, San Andreas had planes. I just figured 9/11 was the reason for it.

But 9/11 wouldn't be the issue because there was no twin tower like like structure in the game.

I read Heart of Darkness, watched Apocalypse Now and played Spec Ops: The Line yet I only found out two months ago that both the film and game were loosely based on Heart of Darkness. I think that their great adaptions because they moved with the times, Apocalypse Now was set during the Vietnam War which was still fresh in people's mind in 1979 and Spec Ops: The Line is set in the middle east which is still fresh in people's mind due to recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I like how Ryan is on every episode of the patch.

Burnie, I doubt you will read this, or anyone who can relay it to you will, but I'm going to say it anyway.
I completely agree that the practice of releasing games un-finished is terrible, but allowing people to access a game they know is un-finished is fine, long as it is sold as such, and is finished in a timely fashion.
(TL;DR Faulty Full Price Release games that don't work, is terrible, but buying into a game before its ready, long as you know it will have issues, is fine... Long as the game actually gets finished & doesn't sit in "beta" forever.)

I also feel like it's more acceptable for new studios. For example, Starbound, which has been on the top sellers list throughout the holiday sale in spite of the fact that it was never on sale and it's early release, is that development studio's first game. The income can be really important in cases like that, where the developer could be in bad financial condition if they wait to release it fully, and being in bad finances normally hurts games.

Anyways, I get why they release unfinished games - and it's because as time and technology goes forward, producing games that meet the "standards" of the industry (like hi-res graphics, physics and AI) gets ridiculously expensive and releasing games in alpha and beta phases are pretty much the only ways to mitigate the costs.
The more I listen to podcast and the patch the madder I get. Those minute details that they get wrong. Bothers me a lot, but I still love watching these guys.

Funny, on Xbox, there has been many hackings on GTA Online, but on PS3 (where I play it) there hasn't been a single hack or anything.

Oh they're there. Trust me. This is basically what your logic is, "Oh there aren't any hacks on PS3. I haven't played with a hack on PS3." Just because you haven't played with them, doesn't mean they don't exist.
There ARE hacks on PS3, i killed a guy with a $1,000,000,000 bounty, so now i have a shit tonne of money. There are a lot of hacked servers.
Yeah I can't tell you how many times I have seen it.
Trust me, the hacked lobbies are rampant. I happen to have ~7B, I've been trying to wind it down by destroying my Adder over and over until I lose some. But people keep giving me more.
I liked this "The Patch" a lot, the past 2 or 3 felt really slow for me but this one went by really fast, I loved it and I didn't want it to end because Ashley, Burnie, and Ryan all have great voices and are great to listen to.

FF7 hasn't been remade even one time. Ryan made a boo boo.
It would have been more accurate if he said "re-released" instead of "remade" granted that it has been re-released twice on pc and on psn. Still, the only noteworthy mention that it deserves is maybe the FF game with the most spinoffs made for it.

hope u dont have plans to move to australia in the future we have one of the slowest internet speeds in the world we still use copper wires that we used in the 60s
***** Yeah that's what we have. Only recently is google taking initiative to push to fiber optic cables. Verizon offers it here, but it is very limited. Granted Google Fiber is limited, but has a much better cost/speed ratio than any other ISP in this country.

First patch I've watched, never thought I'd enjoy hearing other people talk so much...
The other reason people probably don't buy new games is because there is so much mediocre garbage being rushed out the door for money, cough* Call of Duty
that is why indie games are on the raise as AAA companies faltered on their faces

mellosa96 COD has been doing this longer than Battlefield.
Yeah EA and DICE have only now started the same crap recipe that CoD popularized and as a result the game came out unfinished and full of bugs/glitches.
Wow i am amazed with Ashley. Sadly, i haven't been able to see many of The Patch podcasts, so im not too familiar of what Ashley is like on these podcasts but she is a true gamer while being rather beautiful. You sure know how to find em Burnie, you lucky man.

Great video! Really looking forward to the games you mentioned. As for the Spartan Assault issues you guys mentioned...I believe since that game uses all cloud save data (both for progress and data between the Win8/WinPhone versions) that this might have caused 'some' of the crashes you experienced.

In tomb raider the hair actually looks better when you turn of tressfx.
Because it is more pixelated and acts weirdly at times with tressfx on.
+ i play on pc and at certain close up scenes my frame rate almost doubled when i turned it off so i would say that i would appreciate it way more if the next gen consoles turned of tressfx and turned up other stuff like water effects textures etc instead of adding the stupid tressfx.
I agree but I think the important part is, and Burnie would probably agree, someone is still pushing technology for better detail in games. So the ground breakers normal aren't that great, but its a sign that better is coming soon
Wesley Miles Yea i guess and physics stuff is realy something i have wanted to have improved the most for a long time now.
But they could have had it be better in stuff like cloth hanging around because it isnt devided into so many pices so there wouldent be a need for it to be so pixelated or even better they could ad more particles and stuff in explotions like small rocks or metal shards flying out when you explode a can or something and that those would then interact with the enviornment.
Also lara was the only character in the game with tressfx wich made it look even more odd especialy since some of the other characters hair was so porly made even when compared to laras non tressfx hair.
I've finally took the time to log in, just to laugh at burnies hair ahahaa

Who'd be willing to start a game, where America is going to wage war on the world and you have to play Australian, European, etc. And wage war on america, someone, make it.

Mike Hunt I don't know, Ghost came pretty close. I mean 'merica created a giant orbital canon, the premise just needs to change to: America is about to point canon at, let's say Cairo, because pyramids. Your job is to hijack it and prevent another war, but then america decides the best option is to blow the station, the debree falling to earth causes a war against america where they pull out the tech used from the orbital canon to fight off the other countries that realise this tech isn't so far fetched and they can actually improve on it.
The gameplay evolving from being weaker than the american troops, to stronger than the american troops by using variations of thier tech against them.
yeahh i can see that but i dont really count cod because its such a big series if the story was about killing babies people would still buy it for multiplayer
DenzaMan blops 2 did come close aswell i mean an aircraft carrier and i think mw3 was war being waged in america same as mw2 so theyve had the basic premise of it but never waged against america, just war being waged inside america

It's not China, the US government rarely (if ever) bans media. The only two situations they do so is if the government finds it terroristic (it waves a flag praising Al-Qaeda and demanded you murder American nationals) or it is heavy porn and is not marked as such.
Plenty of games already involve you killing Americans, Spec Ops: The Line probably being the most notable example.
That "Crash to Desktop" happened to me while playing DR3. Luckily I just saved so I was good, and it only happened once.
Personally, I think the best game in the Final Fantasy series is FF IV.

The rumor mill is at work here mostly, with a few mentions of here and inclinations in a recent interview (link escapes me right now), but they'd be crazy not to. Plus the DLC that has been announced that focuses on Ellie looks amazing.
Sony enjoys money they will make, but the port wont be done by naughty dog who are working on uncharted.
If the rumor is true, I'd need more pants.
If i ever get a chance ill have to explain FFXIII to Ashley. It's so easy for me to explain at this point because I've explained the story literally over 50 times.
Ryse was not a good start to the XBOne's life. Repetitive combat, completely incorrect historical information, unrelatable characters, unclear story points... when a character accompanies you through the entire game and doesn't make you feel bad when he dies, you know something's wrong.
It was a launch title, it isn't going to be the greatest game. no launch title is the greatest game ever, it takes time to develop great games for their consoles.
Because historical information is the most important part of a Fictional video game.

The "Crash to homescreen" happened to me twice on my One as well, playing Lego Marvel Superheros.
I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this. But I preferred gta online over gta 5.
I will even more when more systems and content are released.

***** I would suggest you spend only the time needed there (at least in ME1, cause its huge) but you know its a great trilogy.. I 1000/1000 the first, then the second, bought the third but couldnt care less about my xbox anymore so never really plaayed... wanted to try on ps3 but the problem is when you put above 75 hours in both to get 1000 (then + dlc) and play on another console it feels like your game got deleted. so never played 3 past the opening. but I would still recommend it a lot
***** If you read your objectives or whatever they have (been awhile) it should tell you the exact Ward you need to go to and from there it's pretty obvious where to find what you're looking for.
***** Considering how tiny each individual ward is, it shouldn't be a problem. I've never had an issue finding where to go in ME1 and I'm nothing special. If I remember correctly you have a map.
37:30 that actually kinda happened. There was a hoarder who was compelled to record everything on TV (after having lost many older friends). Her family attempted to save her on boxes of VHS by showing her she can store them on CD/HDD, but then she had a ton of those as well. It just shifted the issue from bigger physical copies that degraded to smaller ones that lasted longer..
You can tell Ashley really knows what she's talking about. She was a great hire for RT.

I've actually had my Xbox One crash back to the home screen on Peggle 2 and Dead Rising 3, My friends PS4 also crashed a few times too. Guess the new consoles need a bit of updating.

I'll be honest, I actually did that whole "finish a game" bit, especially with a lot of my older games (N64, Playstation, GCN) just because I was like "Hey, I want to finish these and say I beat them." Actually managed to finish a few of them too, so I felt good!

I'm with you Burnie. Minecraft's hunger system feels new to me still. I remember watching a video on minecraft that had 23k views at the time and it convinced me to buy the game, now I think the video has like a few million views! I also remember when lightning released and fire was a big issue in the game. You needed to cover your house with something that was not flammable or else everything would burn down quickly if lightning struck! I also remember the release of The Nether during Halloween. It took me a while to stop calling it Hell and start calling it by it's proper name, The Nether. Good times!

It's 0:13:25 and I'm screaming WHAT?! at my TV, (laptop hooked up to it). How have you not played the Extended Cut for Mass Effect 3, it's so much better! You guys at RT should know the power of editing and that's basically what they did.

The game that I'm looking forward to is Mirror's Edge 2. The first one was absolutely brilliant. If you haven't played it, you are definitely missing out.

It's funny that Ashley mentions Final Fantasy XIII's treasure hunter achievement. I'm actually doing that right now because it's my last achievement for the game and I don't want to go back to it for a while after I get my hands on Lightning Returns. There were so many times it FFXIII where it was almost impossible for me to get the achievement, but it's still a possibility for me.
Burnie is a lucky guy!
