Short Markiesje description:
The coat of the Dutch Tulip Hound is a single layered coat in medium length that can either be straight or have slightly wave to it. It is very common to see feathering on Markiesje coat, especially on the ears, tails and hind legs.
The Markiesje is rather smaller dog breed with average height around 36 cm, which is 14 inch and weight between 11-13 lbs, which is 5-6 kg. There are no extreme size differences between males and females.

This dog reminds me of the dogs found on the native American reservations. They look like a true mix breed or a natural breed. I use to love going to the reservation knowing I'd see lot's of little blk and white dogs ❤

My wife volunteers for the Human Society and they had this black dog that had been returned twice after being adopted. He had been at the center for months. Finally, a lady adopted him and brought him back the next day and said he was to busy. After a few weeks she got somewhat attached to him so she convinced me to agree to Foster him until he is adopted. We already have two fur babies, a Maltese and a Shiz Zhu mix. Wow, what an awesome animal. Beautiful, all black with a hint of white on the underneath base of his tail. Great dog, had him 1 day and put the adoption papers in. We've had him a week now and the Maltese and himself are inseparable. Had no idea of his breed, but while doing a google search, he came up as a Markiesje. Never heard of the breed before. He is a perfect specimen of this breed. He's a little heavier, 18 lbs. but very close in other characteristics. We feel very fortunate to have found him. Just like everyone else says. loyal, active, likes to cuddle, listens well, potty trained, etc. Sometimes I feel sorry for him, cause he needs to be on a farm with a 10 year old. He would be an awesome 10 year old's companion. Too late for that, he's ours and I he's not going anywhere. As soon as the adoption is complete we will be getting a DNA test done.

I had not heard of this breed until my Australian shepherd American eskimo mix (white) dog gave birth to 3 black puppies last year. I struggled with finding the breed until recently I came across the Markiesje and everything makes sense now. They are one of the most compassionate, loving and obedient breeds I have ever seen.

I have had this dog 4 three years and never knew what she was until lastnight. I am a truck driver and people ask me all the time what she is and I never knew. She is the sweetest dog. ❤

Finally found out what type of little dog we have! She was the last puppy to go, I believe a male breeder beat her, she got a new home with young toddlers and hid all of the time, we saw her in the paper and it took some doing to get her sweet personality to come out, she likes myself, my wife and our other two dogs and 2 kittens, she still isn't fond of males. She is a great dog! So happy, watchful, would rather get cuddles vs eat.

But, we are from Brazil, and he was found with 2 months yo, alone, in a poor side of the city Rio de Janeiro, so... not dutch at all.😅 in here is very commom the mixed breeds.

The coat is perfect! Everybody, on our walks, stare at him, saying that he has beautiful color and suuuper soft coat!
The other difference is: he is a medium size dog ...about 48cm and has 13,5kg ❤

I have a mixed breed dog that looks exactly like a markiesje and share many of the characteristics described here!! If I didn't know her parents (and even grandparents, one of which is a white poodle) I would be convinced my baby is a markiesje.

I have been endeavouring to find a Markiesje breeder for over two years now but with no joy. I live in London. If anyone can advise or help in any way I would really appreciate it. Many thanks.
In the Netherlands there has been a rise of clubs that advocate for the preservation of this breed, but they are still a quite rare and unkown compared to other breeds. Being able to obtain one is already difficult in the Netherlands, so I am sure it would be very difficult abroad, and almost impossible across the Atlantic Ocean.

Hey ! after months of struggles i am finally getting my markiesje the 28th 🥹 i spend days trying to find a breeder. I’ve been ONLY been able to find any in the Nethetlands and Germany. As i understood it is complicated to get in the netherlands if you are not from there. In Germany there are more open to give them to someone that isn’t from these 2 countries. But there is still a waiting list sometime because there are so little breeders. I found mine after contacting several breeders in Germany. Good luck ❤
