The last bite not sure what you did in the end but I find if a barbel has snagged me up solid if I let the bail arm from my reel off (no tension on fish) for about 10/15 seconds or so they will free themselves and you will be connected, but might not have been a fish

Drennan super specialist mirco barb m8 i also use bank tackle hooks realy cheap and highey recommed them sharp n strong 👍🎣
