There is a solid rubber grommet where the ski bolts on to keep ski from flopping staight down when front end is in air. Many yrs ago I had lent my pristine 87 Phazer to a buddy for a trip to the UP in Michigan for his buddy that didn't have a sled. After they got back home he was going up a ramp on the seawall to his yard from the lake with it, to put it away & it slid off the ramp into said seawall, destroying 1 ski. He did as he should & replaced it but...I wouldn't find out until later, there was a problem with install. Fast fwd to next winter & we were in Northern MI at a buddies cabin we all went to regularly, & went on a Friday night ride after getting up there & unloaded. About 10 miles from cabin we came to a small river water crossing, no big deal on usual night, but not this night. We had some newbies to water crossings & after showing them how to do it & having them do it, they were all excited. Well, on the way back I was 1st as usual to do "whatever"...this time I hit the water & did a Jet-Ski "backturn" & ended up upside down in the middle of river. After dragging sled out myself, finally getting it running, I made it back to cabin with a warm GF to hold me in bed to warm me up. After we get home, I take front skis apart & find he failed to install the rubber grommet in ski, so when I hit the water 2nd time, the ski, rather than skipping across the water, it dipped into the water, spinning me like a carnival ride. Funny how such a small part can have such a huge impact!!
Have run a trail tech for a few years until 7S display came along. Great item to communicate and safety between multiple brands of sleds. You have to purchase an extra dock and wall mount charger to charge at home.
Mellow ride to a gong show! The panic in you face when Derek came over the radio is the worst feeling, glad he's ok... although his poor sled isn't. Another Great Video Matt! PS. Remember to pack a SPARE BELT 😆
Nice to see some products out there that integrate with the buddy tracking - hopefully (but unlikely) BRP will take notice and integrate some similar functionality into thier displays in the future that also includes tracking other brands.

Winder if the 146s are geared too deep, it doesnt pull anymore track speed than a 165. That might be putting some strain on the belt and pulleys, could be venting iasues too. I always carried a full set of tools, bearings, belts, wheels, ski rubbers, everything lol.

I hadn't considered the daily gear swap you have to deal with... I remember blowing a belt on the trail (way lower consequence). As I was coasting to a stop it occurred to me that my spare was in my other sled. Such a sinking feeling! I went to the bar while my buddy rode to the dealer. It did support my theory that most problems can be solved with beer and a credit card.
That sucks about the Bulkhead on his Sled, looks pretty nasty, we were riding power lines in the UP in Michigan and one of our guys hit the upside coming down from roughly a 8 to 10 ft Jump hard in to the upward ramp on the Next jump, hard enough to bend the Cat Bulkhead into Totaled Sled, it actually cracked the Engine block at the Mounting on the Bulkhead and that ended that Sleds Life with 200 Miles on the ODO, hope your buddy comes out of it better than that. He also had a Trip to the Hospital afterward and Disc Surgery but all turned out OK. It was a scary deal especially because we all saw it happen right beside us in a big Cloud of Snow, Smoke and pieces of sled Flying apart. Even on the Trails with 140 inch suspension there's always the possibility of Terrain damage at 60 mph / 100 kph . Be safe guys!
That gps buddy system is super cool.. it would be super cool if it flashed a different colour when the sled was off and or upside down could see if maybe a guy was in trouble ?
I don't think there's anything wrong with the Skidoo sleds. A belt is made of rubber and nylon cord. It can only take so much power before they get destroyed. And with all these newer sleds having turbos, I think that's absolutely normal. The engine technology has improved, while belt technology remains the same. Besides, I would much rather take a shredded belt on a Skidoo, then a sheared off primary bolt in the crank, or a broken quick drive. Atleast your back up and riding in 5 minutes, rather then paying $1500 to have your Polaris get a helicopter ride out of the alpine. Which then you're still left with a broken machine, thousands of dollars in recovery and repair bills, and then that's probably the rest of the riding season out the window. Yeah, I'll take a $150-$200 blown belt any day of the week over sheared clutch bolts, ruined crankshafts, and grenading quick drives. I don't want it to seem like I'm bashing Polaris either. Their older machines are great. But they need to get the quirks worked out of these newer machines.

I totaled my summit with the same damage, only worse. The sled wouldn’t even pull over because the clutch was pinched so tight. Had to remove a motor mount bolt to release pressure for it to spin, then the same grinding sound began 😂

Blown belts are a thing of these new skidoo. My 1999 mach 1 700 could age the belt out before it ever blew. Wide open everywhere and clutches never got warmer then your hand. Not sure where the skidoo engineers lost the value in reliable clutching.

@@208SledHead I knew that he was saying the 146 was a little less bite than he thought it would be, was just asking
Yikes...that ride went south real quick
Got a link for the trail tech unit and mounting hardware?
Looks like Derek is having the same issue I am having with those 509 goggles if he bought those last season and stored them over the summer like I did I think something happens to them cause mine didn't last 2 weeks and charged them for a whole day and still won't turn on.
I bet you felt it being more nimble you were mainly noticing the weight. Its only 9 lbs according to the spec sheet vut all that weight is dispersed out because its 46mm shocks
Did you just gaing around 20km/h trackspeed by just adjusting it 😮Something is set a bit wrong from factory
Looked like you dumped a big ol deuce in your shorts after buddy called for help hahaha. But glad all was good for him. A damaged sled is better then a damaged person.
How long do these trail tech batteries last in real world application? Does the doo charge it while riding?
Yes that’s why’s he plugged it into the sleds power at the beginning.
Sell the lynx. Things a 3 bottom plow
You were cooking on the way to dude !
Makes me want to come up and ride ....
Is it an issue with belts or is it because the 146 is wide open more than a 154 or 165? 146 seems to be wide open all the time… maybe it’s just me?
Is it possible that the 46 is moving slower through the snow increasing belt/ clutch temps. 200 miles is about normal for me.
200 miles to a belt is "normal" for you!!?? O_o
23:30 they make every thing CHEAP AF NOW AND UR ALWAYS WIDE OPEN
What torch name and model is that I see you use that often
Good morning!
What headlamp do you use?
Blown belts are a thing of these new skidoo. My 1999 mach 1 700 could age the belt out before it ever blew. Wide open everywhere and clutches never got warmer then your hand. Not sure where the skidoo engineers lost the value in reliable clutching.
Trail tec is sick
I would bet skidoo makes their screen changes for 2025 to see buddies and a gps on it
21:20 oh boy thats not a noise you want to ever hear
What are your GoPro settings for recording in the snow?
You mentioned the Trail Tech GPS. Which model are you using? Thanks
Interested to know also…
They are the voyager pro… but I’m curious as to which kit he got to mount it to that panel @Matt??
Thats pretty neat neat device
every time we depart form somewhere after stopping i yell POCKET CHECK to remind everyone to check their pockets/bags are attached and closed.
also what brand headlight do you guys use on your helmets?
Yeah man, it’s all good till it isn’t lol. Sucks carrying so much shit and a heavy pack sucks too but then one day you need it. Be safe out there!!
