  • Mobile homes are well known for their dark and narrow hallways so it's no surprise that the previous owners of our home removed the wall between the bedroom and hallway altogether. Today we take on a big job of replacing the missing wall while trying to keep an open and light feel. Watch our video to see our unique solution to this problem.

    I like the bedroom wall, but I think the shiplap should have been continued down the entire hall. I’m all about saving money but I believe the next buyers would agree about continuing the shiplap. I love watching your videos!

    I just can't say enough, how clever you guys are. It looks like something right out of a magazine. You should be on HGTV for fixes for small spaces. That is just gorgeous. Now Belle will have more privacy too, when she wants to use the rest room, especially in the middle of the night. I'd live there in a minute. You should get this published by one of those mobile home fixing sites on the internet. So cool.

    I painted all my paneling off white it made it so bright and made my trailer look bigger that looks very nice. You might have started a new trend

  • @mikeydraper1653
    @mikeydraper1653 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This looks awesome. Reminds me of japanese shoji screens. It somehow looks modern but fits the retro trailer. Also I love how honest you are about the mistake and cutting, not many other channels would do that. Hey at least you cut it too long and not too short.

    • @diyfferent
      @diyfferent  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, cutting too short would have been annoying, haha!

    Hope you guys are okay - it's been a particularly stressful time for you lately. Some people are always so negative and judgmental, too, which is a shame. But you have so many people who support you and your honest pursuit of your own, individual lifestyle. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing so much with us all. :)

    It looks amazing! What a great solution. Lots of light on both sides. The only thing I would change is place the switch in the narrow space right next to the door so it doesn't break up the symmetry of the larger spaces. Yes, it would require moving the wire over in the space above the ceiling and drill another hole in the ceiling, but the original hole in the ceiling would be covered.

  • @karlab9557

    Great job! love this innovative idea. Floor to ceiling curtains on the bedroom side provide even more privacy, and darken the room for sleeping as needed, and then open up for daylight.

  • @jenniferrice5877

    It almost looks like Asian paper screening. The people who buy it can do the same thing to the inside if they want to. The light would still penetrate and it would look more finished. The hall side looks fantastic. You do such a nice job. I could use someone handy as you. Love your work. Well thought out.

    Doug, your flair for design is amazing. I would love to see it run free without budgetary constraints. In time, I hope you channel grows enough so that you can afford a CNC machine and a 3D printer. Then you designs will only be constrained by your imagination. I can't wait.

    @LindyMac 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The wall looks really cool. Just a few questions, though: will you be putting the same trim on the inside? Could you have cut the carpet instead of cutting down the wall? Can you get furniture down the narrow hallway and in through the new doorway, ok?

    • @diyfferent
      @diyfferent  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I think we'll leave the inside white. I don't think I even have enough paneling left to mimic the look on the inside but it looks pretty good anyway. The wall was just way too tall, even if I had removed the carpet. The wall is just about where it originally would have been so it should be fine. I doubt we will get anything big into the bedroom, but that's just part of living in a mobile home I guess :)

I Cut the studs to he length of floor to ceiling and then put the header and landing on and realized that added 3" haha.... Great build guys! On my Other Channel I'm going to be rebuilding my old burned double wide and taking video of it. Also as the lighting for the hallway I would have did a Sky Light. But over all looks great!
