I am totally obsessed with this song, keep playing it over and over. Just as I did when I first heard ‘Just the Way you are’ back in the 70s. Billy is wonderful ❤
Cant stop playing this song either I absolutely love it .brings me back to the 70s Billy.great f en song.im.obsessed with it.defenately song of the year imo
I noticed this at the Grammys too. It's possible Dave Rosenthal (his keyboardist) is playing that part, but I think he would be responsible for some string sounds in the post-Grammy performances. Since Billy's piano is a digital piano, I think it might be an arpeggiator because the notes being arpeggiated match exactly what he's holding down at any one moment. I'm 99% sure Chuck plays to a click, so a track is totally possible. I know there are sequencers involved his show these days (River of Dreams backing vocals in the intro, and the first two verses of Still Rock n' Roll to Me has the original backing vocals playing in the background), but I doubt that in this particular instance. An arpeggiator is much more likely.
GIANT BJ fan....but, after waiting 20 years for an original......this is flat....disappointed. It's too sloowww....no horns; no catchy phrases/choruses etc. Solemn song....was looking for something akin to the energy infused hit styles from the 80s.....This sounds like a B-side to turnstiles....maybe hes got some more in the tank later in the year??

This song is so much better live versus the studio recording. Leave it to Billy Joel to keep to doing that.
He's singing in a lower key so he can hit the higher notes. I love the official video and the Grammy performance
The Grammy’s was in Bb, this is in B. The recording was in C and young Billy would’ve recorded it in D.
Who is playing the arpeggiated piano notes in the chorus?
works much better in this key
Maybe this will put the auto tune comments to rest.
The recording is, but this is being sung a half step down from the recorded key. It sounds better here, more soulful.
Does it look like he’s not playing the rolling piano part in the chorus to anyone else? You can hear it but his hand is not doing them
