Easy Keto Fat Bomb Recipe: Citrus Matcha Green Tea Latte- Thomas DeLauer… Right now matcha is taking the world by storm. Everywhere you turn, there's matcha-flavored ice cream, matcha-flavored this, matcha-flavored that. The thing is, on the keto diet, we can't enjoy a lot of these matcha treats simply because they have too much sugar in them, but matcha is something that is super powerful on a ketogenic diet simply because of not only all the antioxidant compounds that are in it, but also its ability to slow down gut motility to ultimately make you full a little bit longer, thereby helping you out when it comes down to your body composition goals.
So what I've got for you here is a drinkable fat bomb. I'm not going to have you drink a gallon of coconut oil, but I'm going to have you drink something that is super tasty that not only utilizes matcha but utilizes a really cool new trick that's been backed by science to improve the bioavailability of matcha and help that matcha do its trick within your body.
So all I've got in front of me are a few simple ingredients. This is literally gonna be one of the easiest recipes that I've ever put together. So all I've got to start is some good old fashioned light coconut milk. I'm using it from the can and I'm going to use this whole can or close to it. Normally I'm using a carton of almond milk or a carton of coconut milk. In this case, I want to go with the higher fat stuff, but I'm using the light coconut milk so make sure when you're looking at the grocery store, you get the one that says light, not the one that is thick, otherwise you're going to end up with way too many calories and you're going to have a hard time even getting it out of the can.
So all I'm going to do is I'm going to take just enough to fill up this cup, maybe a little over halfway. See how it's thick but not super thick? This way we're getting the medium chain triglycerides from the fat that's in it, but we're not totally loading ourselves with 400 calories or more simply from coconut milk. We're going to get maybe a couple hundred calories from this, just enough to get us some energy on the ketogenic diet.
Then when it comes down to matcha, I want to talk about matcha for just a second. Matcha is obviously powerful because we have the epigallocatechin gallate, which is also known as EGCG. That's all great, that has super powerful antioxidant compounds in it that can slow down what is called lipid peroxidation. Lipid peroxidation is where we're taking fats that aren't used in the body and oxidizing them, turning them into poison. Let me give you an example. Have you ever left fish oil out on the counter, or have you ever cut fish and then come back maybe half an hour later and it just reeks horribly? Or have you ever taken a fish oil pill and found that when you burp, it tastes pretty rancid. Well, that's because those fats are oxidized. Same thing happens inside your body. If you're consuming any kind of fats and they're not getting utilized properly, they can go rancid in your body. That's exactly why we want to be able to utilize the power of matcha in the antioxidants to slow down that lipid peroxidation.
The other thing we want to talk about is something known as cholecystokinin, CCK. CCK is a hormone that slows down your got motility. All that simply means is it slows down the rate at which your small intestine is churning for a little bit.

The difference between coconut milk and light coconut milk is that the light version is more watered down! Exactly the same ingredients, but with more water. So save your money and buy the normal version and add your own water!

Great ideas for making matcha green tea late. Many thanks, Thomas! The citrus component was new to me, as was the study, as was the reality of poor bioavailability of polyphenols in green tea. I also didn’t know about coconut milk in stores sold in cans. The monk fruit is a great idea, something that diabetics can use too.
Just a note (which you know), epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in green tea, just like the flavonols in cocoa, prunes, barley and vinegar are catechins. [flavonol = catechin] Interestingly, catechins are not antioxidants. Rather, they are systemic irritants that produce a response by specific genes that, in turn, are anti-inflammatory, anti-tumoral and antioxidant.
From NCBI and the National Institutes of Health:
“Green tea contains polyphenols, which include flavonols, flavondiols, flavonoids, and phenolic acids; these compounds may account for up to 30% of the dry weight. Most of the green tea polyphenols (GTPs) are flavonols, commonly known as catechins.”
Some may not know that Matcha Green Tea creates its “alert calm” due to the presence of L-Theanine, which by itself induces relaxation and masks the buzz from caffeine. Love the set and camera work. Beautifully produced. Certainly a tip-top channel on TH-cam, and for me, probably the best.

Hi Thomas, I have something that I really want you to make a viedo about, Its about building muscle and losing body fat at the same time with intermittent fasting. My theory is that if you use intermittent fasting correctly you can build muscle even when
.you are in a calorie deficit, Because at some point of the day your body will have a lot of food to work with in addition the HGH . secretion will help you keep your muscle in the fat loss part of the day (the fasted state) and also will help with muscle synthesis.
I gave it a lot of thought and I would really like you to explain more about this topic. You are doing an awsome job at motivating people to live a healthy lifestyle, keep it up man.

I usually agree with what he says but not this time. After 2 12oz cups of this first thing in the morning I have my bullet proof coffee which I also add a teaspoon of green tea. Delicious!

  • @firagabird

Citrus increasing matcha bioavailability from 20->80% isn't just a 60% increase; it's four-fold (4x) increase! That's the equivalent of consuming 4 servings worth of matcha in one sitting. My god, that's amazing! Gonna be mixing some lemon/calamansi with my matcha everytime now, both of which are safe for fasting.
EDIT: Tried this recipe as a warm (not hot! otherwise, the vitamin C complex breaks down) latte & calamansi instead of lemon. Also used thick coconut cream diluted with hot water. The citrus taste mixed with the creamy smooth latte was shocking; might lessen it next time.

although green tea/matcha is high in catechins
Under 20 per cent of catechins, which include EGC, EGCG, EC and ECG, remain after digestion,
catechins break down in non-acidic environments, such as the intestines, leaving less than 20 per cent of the antioxidants to be absorbed after digestion takes place.
Citrus juices, including fromlimes, grapefruits, lemons and oranges, increased the levels of catechins by more than five times, with an 81 to 98 per cent recovery for EGC, 56 to 75 per cent for EGCG, 86 to 95 per cent for EC and 30 to 55 per cent for ECG.

I'm not a big fan of buying "light" coconut milk, I'd rather buy the full fat one and dilute it with water (or, I dunno, almondmilk) myself ;)

Hey, Thomas it would be wonderful if you could do a video on doing keto when you no longer have a gallbladder.

Real shame you or the company does not let me see the discount until I check out. The xo pany wants to get all my info before I know the discount. I like your info but hate the way you want all my info before I know the discount.

Many painkillers and also cox 2 inhibitors have a blood-thinning effect. These should not be taken if someone has aspirin cardio and an additional blood thinning medication after cardiac stent insertion. Does the monk fruit also do a blood thinning? Or is it safe in contrast to the chemical painkillers?
