Does USA weightlifting advocate training dips? Or any exercise outside of the two competition lifts and their close variants? Anything can be taken too far, but I don't understand the pushback from US weightlifters and their coaches towards building strength and muscle via other exercises some of the time. The Russians and Chinese have done it for decades. What am I missing? Would a stronger athlete with more muscle be at a competitive disadvantage doing this, as long as the requisite work on the two main lifts was getting done?
Weighted Dips are one of the best accessory exercises for the Jerk. Weighted Dips are a tool to help prevent a lifter from pressing out. It's a very overlooked accessory for weightlifting.
@@energyzer_bunny1913dips definitely build strength to tolerate more load overhead but they won’t stop press outs by themselves, press outs are 9/10 times the by product of a technical issue in the dip and drive not a strength issue overhead
For powerlifting? I’ll say for such heavy dips probably the main goal is Triceps power.
