A reminder that Doom is one of the few people to survive meeting wakandas panther God…who kills all with impure hearts. She looked into his soul, and saw that the world would, indeed, be better off under his rule. So much so that she allowed Doom access to all of Wakanda's vibranium. She didn't like him…but couldn't deny the truth. Also let’s look at Doom’s relationship with Valeria Richards. If Doom was truly a villain he would have let her die (which would have devastated Reed and Sue) but he saved her life. He loves and cares for her deeply…and is a better father figure to her than Reed Finally…the people of Latvaria genuinely adores Doom and he loves his people Because of Doom there is no starvation, crime or homelessness in Latveria His people fear neither war or invasion because of Doom
He just saved Valeria life to prove a point : that he could do something Richards couldn't. Also, pretty sure that he's just grooming her to become a mini-him and the only excuse found to explain why he's a "good dictator" is because any person taking his place happen to strangely be "worst". Writers can d*ck-ride him all day long but in the end, it doesn't matter : Victor Von Doom is and always will be just a petty manchild seeking attention and validation... oh, and revenge on Reeds Richard because apparently, the Man at the Head of Latveria has somehow time for that and abuses his diplomatic immunity to never get arrested when doing crimes on American soil.
A lot of people here seem to be happy to give up freedom in exchange for prosperity - which will only lead to having neither. But maybe you'll be safe at the end of the day, as long as you don't think.
The whole point of Doom is that he is wrong, freedom is good and should be celebrated. Doom is death, while Reed is life, and at the end of Secret Wars, we realize that "everything lives."
5:04 That idea is not Kantian, it's from a consequentialist moral framework. Kant was a deontologist, which is a framework opposed to consequentialism.
@@Dickson_ The main difference is in what is most fundamental for each moral framework. For deontologists (such as Kant) it's *what is right*, which is defined in terms of fixed moral duties, and there are certain things we should never do, such as lying, killing, stealing, etc. Consequentialism on the other hand focuses on *what is good*, and what is right is merely defined in terms of what is going to achieve the good: if killing millions is going to achieve the good, then killing millions is right, hence the phrase "the end justifies the means". Doom thinks everything he does is justified because it's for achieving the better end, and that's a consequentialist perspective, not a deontological one (Kantian).
He's not a superheroes by far. But he does have admiral traits but it's over shadowed by his ego, cold method to achieve his goals/schemes by any means. His moral are out the window at times to achieve his goals. That is not a superheroes mindset.
I have Triumph & Torment, bought it back in high school in the early 90s. Best Doom story ever. It took a couple years after this before continuity caught up w the book and had Doom’s mother’s soul free
The conflict and contradiction that one will typically run into in this situation is expressed in the same statement that I give my son many times to explain life and other's actions. Sometimes people do good things for the wrong reason, sometimes people do bad things for the right reason... And sadly, most people want to always believe that they're right irrespective of the consequences or in spite of them.
Thank you Rob, so many people tell me how evil he is and I've said countless times that while he has done terrible things he does have heart...I look at his relationship with Valeria as a clear example of how Doom can and is quite kind when he wants to....his run as Infamous Iron Man as well came from a place of redemption and self-actualization....to say he is evil is not understanding just how complex he is...I love Doom always have and always will
The best type of villain is one that makes you question your own morals or ethics. Doctor Doom is that type of character. He didn't want anyone in his country to suffer like he did, so he took over the country. His, by any means necessary, mentality is an extrtreme version of what it means to be a monarch.
Anyone see that Doom #1 that came out in May of this year (2024)? Written by John Hickman, it's awesome. I specifically like the variant cover with a close-up of his face, the thumbnail reminded me of the cover. One of the best Doom stories there is, and since Hickman wrote it, it'll go up in value. Pick one up now while they're cheap.
Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." I could imagine Captain America saying that to Doom
I guess that's what makes Doctor Doom so special, he's an antagonist that can actually make the world safe. It's just how he goes about it is what makes him seem "evil" to others.
@TsukasaHackOnline apples n oranges. A person isn't a finger or just a branch. Doom is a tryant who is unable to accept that others may be able to make the best decisions for themselves. I know people try to equate large groups of people as a singular entity, but that's so they can deflect any harm done to a few as a necessary evil.
2:55 It sure was. I would be extremely interested in a storyline with Doom being brought to the position of alive for whatever reason. Superman Warworld with a Doom spin . Possible coup. Doom’s lines would right themselves in almost every panel.

Yes! Doom is by far my favorite villain along with Magneto in all of comic fiction and you've now covered them both!! This is why you're my favorite!😁
when written right, doom and thanos are marvel's best villains by far.
Doom, thanos, and magneto*
thanos is just a simp while Doom is more then just a villian
@@birgaripadam7112 i can see how someone can say that...if they are a complete dumbass that is LMAO
thanos isn't just a simp, you missed the whole symbolism and meaning of the character and his story just because the concept of death in marvel can take a humanoid form. thanos isn't a simp, he is a nihilist, his stories (when written by good writers) are about hope persevering even inside someone like thanos. the stories with thanos are all cosmic and wild on the surface but in reality they are the most human stories that can be written, cuz they deal with the constant struggle and search for meaning in our existence.
@@metalface_villain "complete dombass" ok buddy if you not agree with me you can just say "this or that reason" instead of just insulting and if what you said is true ı want the exact comic book as I only see him being a simp or a madman, if what you say is true it would make him interesting character but I didnt see it
@@birgaripadam7112 that was just for comedic effect, don't take it too personally, although i do disagree with you completely. if you want good thanos stories check the ones written by his creator jim starlin, like the infinity trilogy. as i said before though, none of that matters if you don't actually bother to think about what you're reading and you just go "thanos be simping baby"
The MCU really needs to get this integral part of Doctor Doom’s character right in Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars
He loves and cares for her deeply…and is a better father figure to her than Reed
Finally…the people of Latvaria genuinely adores Doom and he loves his people
Because of Doom there is no starvation, crime or homelessness in Latveria
His people fear neither war or invasion because of Doom
What do you think happens to people who don't dedicate their lives to loving doom? Now why do you think everybody who is STILL ALIVE loves doom.
Honestly would like to see the villain dumb enough to target Valeria.
5:04 That idea is not Kantian, it's from a consequentialist moral framework. Kant was a deontologist, which is a framework opposed to consequentialism.
Pls could you give me a quick gist of the difference b/w consequentialism and Kantian's philosophy in this regard to Doom?
@@belialord Thank you for the explanation, I understand now.
Doom is just the greatest comic book character to have ever been made along with many others imo.

“Everyone fights for their version justice”
The conflict and contradiction that one will typically run into in this situation is expressed in the same statement that I give my son many times to explain life and other's actions.
Sometimes people do good things for the wrong reason, sometimes people do bad things for the right reason... And sadly, most people want to always believe that they're right irrespective of the consequences or in spite of them.
@@williammcfarlane6153 but then there are also people who know they are wrong and take pride in hurting others, or do it for some other deluded reason
The “Villains Who Were Right” series is ingenious Rob. Great content to flesh out the complex morality of our favorite villains.
Most of the time Doom is fixing Reed bullshit that almost destroyed the universe.
Even his daugther goes to Doom when shit gets real.
AYO you took my Doom suggestion from the last one? At least I’d like to think so.
Thank you sir 🙏🏼
Isn't he the same leader who willing sacrifices his servants and will kill a citizen who disagrees with him?
Yeah, again, he’s an ends justify the means guy. Most of the time he doesn’t do things that are unnecessary depending on the writer obciously
@@oldylad why do so many people treat doom as a gary stu, just because doom has layers and humanity
Do you not prune a leaf or a branch to save the plant?
Would you not sacrifice a finger to save your arm?
@TsukasaHackOnline apples n oranges. A person isn't a finger or just a branch. Doom is a tryant who is unable to accept that others may be able to make the best decisions for themselves. I know people try to equate large groups of people as a singular entity, but that's so they can deflect any harm done to a few as a necessary evil.
@@kc8guyI like apples and oranges

He turned Yggdrasil into a throne... Let that sink in.
2:55 It sure was. I would be extremely interested in a storyline with Doom being brought to the position of alive for whatever reason. Superman Warworld with a Doom spin . Possible coup. Doom’s lines would right themselves in almost every panel.
I like this video because you do a deep dive into the philosophy and themes of the stories.
Nice video❤
Glad to see how great this video turned out, it's going to be very interesting what Victor does with the powers of the Sorcerer Supreme
Can you make a video about KERPOW!? A new comic series from Scout Comics, that tells the story of a boy, his father is a Hinchman who get lucky and successfully kill a superhero with his young sidekick who is a clear homage of Batman and Robin the story pick up after 10 years, we find that the father became the new kingpin of the city, the sun nearly killed by assassinating attempt meant for his father and wake up in the hospital to find out that he is hunted by the young sidekick and after that he get on a mission to destroy his father empire

DR. DOOM SHOULD GET HIS OWN ORIGIN MOVIE THAT WOULD BE AWESOME
Great script for the video dude.

Knew this was gonna come up sooner over later. Cheers Rob!
I remember when Dr. Doom took the heart out of an asgardian. The asgardian died, then he placed the heart back in the asgardian's chest and he came back to life.
He even killed Kang during Secret Wars, and then brought him back to life to just show how forgiving and benevolent he was.

You know what is not right, Rob?
The casting of RDJ for Dr. Doom. That role should have gone to Cillian Murphy, and you know it!
Prove me wrong.
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tony Stark imagined a suit of armor around the world. If that isn't a dream similar to Doctor Doom's, then I don't know.
Wouldn't have thought of him specifically but I'm intrigued
@@BBBHueydude, stop. If they wanted an RDJ Doom they could’ve made him from that universe where they switched minds and have that reveal at the end. Make it Tony but evil and in the ending show actual doom from their universe coming out. RDJ Tony is a stupid whimper of marvel trying to appease all of the fans they’ve lost with their horrible films and they use Tony only because everyone loves RDJ and iron man. Waste of potential, and doom is one of if not the greatest comic villain ever. Waste of RDJ and waste of Dr Doom
@@rashodmasters4299why are you intrigued? The whole plot is gonna be Doom trying to take over their world, RDJs face being shown, and SpiderMan being conflicted about it. That’s the plot, there’s nothing they could do to make it surprising nor interesting
@@oldylad I'll admit that Marvel Studios' films have been hit and miss as of late. Phase 4 certainly hasn't been off to a good start.
But turning Tony Stark from another universe into their version of Doctor Doom sure isn't a bad idea. Both Doom and Iron Man wear armor.
I mean, it made sense that Tony and Bruce made Ultron instead of Pym. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Tony's Iron Man designs became Sentinels to battle the X-Men.

One of your best videos ever. People wonder who or why adults can read comics - this is an excellent view into it. Doom is to Marvel what the dichotomy of Batman/Superman is to DC
You may live-Doom. John Byrne's Doom is his best iteration.
Excellent philosophical deep dive, as always! How about an introspective on Black Adam or Amanda Waller. 🤔
Im calling it now. RDJ Dr Doom will show he did overthrow wakanda and his armor is vibranium based!!
Doom has been my favorite character since I started reading him. I absolutely agree with your break down Rob
"a leader who knows what's right for the world" lol uh huh, a leader who will only fix the world as long as it's under his rule. i'm not so sure the idea that "i'm all the world needs" is really the same as knowing how to fix the worlds problems.
Amazing!
Are you able to do Ozymondais from The Watchmen?

I love how you show the connections to real world philosophy. In the end, comics are about story telling, and the purpose of story telling is to convey ideas.

That title has Doctor Doom's seal of approval. Doom is never wrong... that sort of stuff is just beneath him.
Didnt he at one point did become the emperor of earth and then achieve true peace , but then he just undo everything cause got bored?
God King Doom is probably my favorite appearance and iteration of any character ever in comics. So cool.
Nowadays hating Batman is a trend. "How can he do that, HE IS JUST A HUMAN!" Yet those same "fans" applause like crazy whenever Iron Man or Doom does a similar thing. No one cries "HE IS JUST A HUMAN!" whenever Doom obtains an incredibly overpowered power.
Same for spidey. How is a dude who got bit by a spider, hurt the hulk, lift buildings and speed blitz heralds
Because Doom isn't just a human. He's Him
Doom is as much a human as Dr. Strange. He's a powerful sorcerer while also being an incredible scientific mind, which is what makes him such a formidable foe.
It’s because the writers explain how he gets the power with technology and such while batman has power because HeS So SMaRt

So why is he a villain if he's such a good leader?
Because he's a dictator who believes he's the only one worthy to lead.

No lie, with the way that he does his thing………..for his PEOPLE, it kind of makes you wonder if he’s truly a Supervillain for the betterment of his own humanity, or for the betterment of ALL humanity? Honestly, I can’t tell either way, so long as he still looks MEGA AWESOME while doing it!
This is what makes Doom the goat villain. The heroes only go surface level into solving the problems that plague humanity, but Doom is willing to make the hard choices to eliminate all problems.
In the comics, Marvel gives Doom faaaar more credit than he deserves. It’s only so much arm folding, siting on a throne, and petty pontificating that a comic book reader can take. Love him in MvC 2 tho. I’m interest to see what Marvel Studios will do with the character on screen.
