Does World's Largest Nickel Miner Need To Choose Between China And US?

  • Fueled by heavy Chinese investments, Indonesia is keen on leveraging its nickel to become Southeast Asia’s leading producer of electric vehicles (EVs).
As the world’s top miner of nickel, a crucial part of EV and lithium batteries, Indonesia banned nickel exports in 2020 - a controversial move that prompted foreign investors to set up more smelters in the country and drive up its metal export value.
Besides this, Indonesia has partnered with automakers from South Korea’s Hyundai to China’s BYD to set up EV assembly and battery factories in the archipelago. In late 2023, it even announced a joint agreement with the United States to develop a critical minerals pact - with an eye on future limited free trade with American subsidies that could benefit its locals.

Why did Tesla canceled their investment in Indonesia ?? because Elon Musk couldn't follow Indonesian laws especially about technology-transformation, plus they asked for higher sharing profit ... thus making Indonesia has better business relation with China, bc China agrees to follow Indonesia's regulations
So, it's not about which country closer to Indonesia, but about which country gives 50-50 profit between investor and Indonesia

Indonesia is the main producer in ASEAN. In terms of production, growth rate , GDP is number 1 is indonesia.
In a decade , indonesia cities will be more advanced, developed and high-tech than India cities.
With Indonesia mass population, young workforce and has oil gas and minerals, Indonesians will be the most important market in ASEAN.
But still no where close to Saudi. Saudi is on a different level that even China, EU and US won't be able to compare.

Indonesia isn't choosing between China or the US, Indonesia is choosing its own national interest. Indonesia want investors to build the nickel industry in Indonesia to bring more jobs. The US companies don't want to do that, while the Chinese are enthusiastic to do that. Indonesia never ban the US from investing. Now the US is supporting the traitorous opposition factions in Indonesia to change the policy, now who is interfering with Indonesian politics? For China, it doesn't matter, China will benefit anyway whether Indonesia require foreign companies to open smelting factories in Indonesia or not. Even if the law is repealed, China can still buy the nickel in open market, maybe that will be even more beneficial to China.

Misalnya ente invest 1 miliar. 1000 org kan sudah 1 trilyun..( ini contoh ya bro )
Kan kita sering dengar nilai investasi project A senilai USD 5 miliar = kurleb Rp 75 trilyun berarti ada 75.000 org Indonesia yg invest @ 1 milyar

I think there are 3 points that need to be clarified to public, which is not yet in this report... (1) SPREAD & TRANSPARENCY. The numbers often mentioned is in bulk, how's the spread of the value and when mentioning Indonesia needs to be specified whether it's state-owned companies or government, or private-owned companies, otherwise it'll be intransparent, (2) ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT & GOVERNANCE. At 4'30"-5'00" there's a mention about reducing emission, how does it work and how it relates to the overall environmental impact of the industry, both in terms of pollution caused and compensation of the deforestation, (3) SOCIAL IMPACT & GOVERNANCE towards the local people of Morowali. Do they benefit from it? Do the thousands of jobs created mentioned are for these local people, or actually for foreigners?

A better choice would be hybrid cars if they want to have proper functioning cars that are more reliable and low-cost. In people in India, currently no EV factory and low interest in EV, prefer hybrids because of multiple reasons. However, Vinfast a EV factory of Vietnam will start in India as the first EV salesman even before Tesla. I am curious how that will work out. Or if you want strong batteries then the Chinese have new batteries that last 50 years without charging because they are nuclear.

Indonesia is nothing, but consumer. There is Not benefit to indonesian people, only some people who has the rules, and some ministry who ally with oligarky. Indonesian goverment want NEV revolution, and give peoples subsidy if they buy car or motobike, is car and bike made by indonesia? No. What China did and indonesia did about NEV is very different, and has no porpuse, beside make some poeple rich and greedy

I think SE countries will not be that level hazardous for India, I know our govt has stopped Chinese investment which is actually great our gates are 24×7 open for US Taiwan, Japan, Korea & Europe.
    Our goal is simple:
    👹100% Make In India 👹
(Well some critical components may be are exception.)

The Indonesian people are already enjoying the Chinese built high speed railways and trains while the Indian people are still waiting to ride the HSR from the Japanese to be built. The Japanese have been built for the Indian high speed rail for years, longer than the Chinese built for the Indonesia. Your people are so anti-China and the Chinese people as well.....good luck. th-cam.com/video/RO9C-3LyrZk/w-d-xo.html

Then India should learn from Indonesia. Instead of being pawn of the west and US learn to do more cooperation for better life of Indians. Do not forget the same people who enslaved and looted India and most of Asia for 300 plus years are the ones ruling the west and US.

Talk about Indonesia but interview a Chinese guy, serious. The Chinese guy even didn't try to speak English while Indonesia guys have to speak in English. What else can go more wrong?

That Chinese can use translator because he is one of the engineers from the company, English is not his specialty. I bet his company has a ton of money to hire a translator....and most importantly, he doesn't require to speak English because he came from China.....in China, they speak Chinese Mandarin. I don't see any wrong with it.

He probably knows some Bahasa Indonesia which is their official language not English. It was never an English colony. If he is more comfortable expressing himself to reporters from CNA in Chinese why can't he use it in an interview.

He is NOT a language majors he is an engineer. While the Indonesians being interviewed are directors and ministerial officer. Elites.
What do you really expect? Indonesian elites can't speak English? Or Chinese engineer should speak English fluently?
