I love the R12! Since I lost my beloved R1200C in an accident in 2022 and even before I was hoping for a newer and lighter cruiser from BMW and it appears that the R12 is it. I’m really excited and I just hope it will fit me just was well as the R1200C , which felt like Taylor made for me. Both Variants look great, I think. Finally, thank you for making these great Videos, they are very helpful and nice to watch.
I also think the older R9T was better looking. That new R12 looks really sharp from the video, gives me vibes of my Moto Guzzi Griso. Too bad they down tuned it, but maybe once tuners get at it, hopefully a flash will give it the full beans.
There's arguably no markup for it being a BMW. What you get and the technology that comes with it is very competitively priced. In many cases you can even see their S1000rr coming in cheaper than a Yamaha R1. And the BMW is more powerful, more premium feeling, and has better technology.
I saw that r12 cruiser today at the NEC bike show and in my opinion, was the hands down bike of the show for me, as shown here it looked incredible in the flesh.
New r9t all day. So much cleaner looking than the outgoing model. Airbox (and I assume) battery in a sensible location. This is a worthy successor. Green, analog gauges and tubeless spoked wheels please (if a suitcase of Franklins was left on my doorstep).
excellent side by side overview of both new R12 models. Presented in a clearly spoken and easy to understand generic English accent, thank you. Particularly liked that you sat on the bikes to illustrate their relative size. Eagerly waiting for your road test - and the USA release of course.
Agreed. Motobob looks big on the bike and I’m much taller. Then again, judging from BMW’s ad, most of these bikes are purchased by free spirited, untamable bad-ass women, so maybe small is the way to go.
Thanks Bob was waiting for your thoughts on these new bikes. I always look forward to your take. 😊 I love the RnineT and think these are both great successors to the old one. You have to keep moving. I am also surprised by how much I like that R12. Can’t wait to sit on one and see how comfy those ergonomics are. It looks amazing. I’m also surprised how much I like the look of that small digital gauge.
I find the naked bike riding position more commanding because I have weight on the front wheel and can put weight on my arms. Cruisers may have the "commanding" attitude but steering them is like using a tiller.
That may be the best all-rounder motorcycle ever. Great power and torque from a reliable motor and now with USD forks. It looks so friggin cool! Especially the all aluminium and red frame of the 719. Solo seat conversion is wicked and I'd opt for the larger fairing instead of the fly screen. I'll have my saddle in a dark brown tan please! Wow! I'm torn between this and the Tiger 900 GT Pro. I know they have different purposes but a guy can dream... As per usual, great reporting!
I think I prefer the old R nineT style but it had a good run, I guess it was due a change. I do like the R12 although it’s not really my thing. The price differential is hard to justify but even the old nineT was more expensive than the R1250R which on paper beats it hands down. Go figure ! The BMW video called the bike with a bikini fairing a “Racer” so expect more variants in the future although I’ll be sticking with my old R nineT Racer 🇬🇧
I think the difference between R9T and r1250r is the build. One have more attention to details and fir and finish one is just a practical bike. At least that’s the way I looked at it. What I find hard is choosing which I prefer. Do I want comfort or cool…
@@Vegesaurus7 I prefer the air/oil cooled engine (for reasons that are not logical) and the heritage style but the new R nineT is £2,090 more than the R1250R in the UK and £1,280 more than the R1250RS. Your point about build quality is well made but equally the £2,430 difference between the R nineT and the R12 I find hard to justify, and it’s only £570 less than the old R1250GS.
Yep those are great points. From what I hear the r1250 r, rs and gs are a lot more comfortable to ride. I guess you really have to want the style of the RnineT
I like the new Nine T .... especially in the green color scheme. Three questions: 1) Does the optional digital dash include a fuel level gauge, 2) Is the optional bikini fairing available in the green color, and 3) Is an optional center stand available this year? Thanks. Nice reporting.
Does the new r12ninet come with a fuel gauge this time? It’s a lovely looking bike and I would have considered one but when you have added a few extras to r12ninet you are looking close to 16k, out of my price.
Looks great! As an owner of the old RnineT, I was hoping they would go retro-futuristic with the new model. Most of the modern styled BMWs look strange to me.
I would have preferred the TFT as a modular add-on to the analog gauges… I certainly hope there is a fuel gauge. I think a decade is long enough to wait for basic fare.
I loved my 9t. The one thing I don’t like about the new style is the length of the tank, I don’t like seeing all the wiring exposed up where the neck of the frame is. I do like that the removed the snorkel, but everything else I liked better about the old.
Great introduction again - thank you! Even though I don't prefer neither of this types of bike, both look great to me! Did you mention that both are equiped with a steering damper?
My guess is that they are equal in ”fun” factor. But the new one looks gorgeous! (I ride a 2016 Pure: raw as anything and basic to the bone, but the rush I get from taking it through a twisty road is immense!)
Thank you for the info i hope those who were thinking to buy will be happy to know 😀 and it would be a pain if it were to be tubed again if there was a puncher✌️
Love the R 12 ! . . . At least based on the promo pics and videos. Can't wait to see one at my local BMW Motorrad . . . and hopefully be able to test ride it . . . and . . . just maybe give my Sportster 1200 a new companion !
Here in PT the price for the new nineT starts now on 19.2k€. as the other "lower" versions will be descontinued... THis thing will tank. at least for now...
@@stewy62 I never got to buy it. Crisis happened and in less than a month I had lost in value the money to buy 2 of those. :D... still waiting on a recovery... but now, I would get me a V100 Mandelo... In the meanwhile, still happy with my w650 cafe racer that I built myself.
What's the knob on the right hand side? Under the tank, over the cylinder. I like the one with the biggest pricetag, of course. But out of reach for me, I'm afraid.
I owned an older version when they were first released.. I think the new versions look much nicer well done BMW. It's a shame they changed lowered the power so much on the other version. Pete
I really like the R12. When I was looking for a new bike two years ago (I bought a Moto Guzzi V7 Special) I looked at the R nineT but I didn't like the rear modern sport bike styling. I would have bought the new R12 with its more traditional styling and rear fender.
Still no normal luggage solution (though I salute more straight rider position on R12). And what’s the purpose of phone plugging if you don’t have big screen hence no gps and awkward music control (if any)?
Issue is that this is still the old Oil Head engine that was in the GS's 2009-2012 and is unchanged. Also has a dry clutch that is positioned at the back of the engine. Any service on that clutch means breaking the bike in half.
Still wondering when yamaha are going to put something into the retro cruiser market. The bolt 950 or xv 950 as its known in uk isn't really cutting it. They need a retro bruiser like the ducati daivel
They are both really nice bikes I always have been a boxer fanatic and maybe next season I'll give the Ninet a try I do prefer the previous cylinder head look Thanks Bob for taking the time to do all these reviews Ride safe Marcelo Great job!
I'm not a cruiser fan but That R12 is one of the best looking cruisers I've seen
R12 looks cool and will hopefully appeal yo the cruiser intenders.
The R9T is still my favourite retro and prefer the look of existing model.
That R12 looks really appealing. Can’t wait to see it in the flesh. I hope it’s ground clearance in corners though is much improved on the R18
I love the R12! Since I lost my beloved R1200C in an accident in 2022 and even before I was hoping for a newer and lighter cruiser from BMW and it appears that the R12 is it. Hard to justify the BMW badge markup but that cruiser is gorgeous
wait 10 years and get a used one
There's arguably no markup for it being a BMW. What you get and the technology that comes with it is very competitively priced. In many cases you can even see their S1000rr coming in cheaper than a Yamaha R1. And the BMW is more powerful, more premium feeling, and has better technology.
Especially on paint prices 😮

Did you sit on and try it out for ergo’s?
R12 looks fantastic. Can't wait for the review!
i am more drawn towards the older R9T but neverthess the new R129T also looks fab...
Great details, literally just put money down on a R9T scrambler, thought they might have added power so thank you for making this video, well done.
Oh that cruiser is amazing 😻
Dude your reviews are immaculate and very well made !!
Thanks for a great video. 😃👍
I really like the R12, (the 719 option) and I prefer the look of the old R nine T.
Keep up the good work. 😃
BMW continues to neglect the R1250R model, yet, it's one of their best bikes.
New r9t all day. So much cleaner looking than the outgoing model. Airbox (and I assume) battery in a sensible location.
This is a worthy successor.
Green, analog gauges and tubeless spoked wheels please (if a suitcase of Franklins was left on my doorstep).
I would 100% get one of these over Harley’s new nightster.
Agreed it looks the better bike 👍
excellent side by side overview of both new R12 models. Presented in a clearly spoken and easy to understand generic English accent, thank you. Particularly liked that you sat on the bikes to illustrate their relative size. Eagerly waiting for your road test - and the USA release of course.
italians are allready building tiny bikes ... germans should think of more than 6 feet drivers ... we want a 9T scrambler for tall people !
Agreed fully
Agreed. Motobob looks big on the bike and I’m much taller. Then again, judging from BMW’s ad, most of these bikes are purchased by free spirited, untamable bad-ass women, so maybe small is the way to go.
I disagree. What do want straight legs on a bike? It's a normal sized bike probably mt09 size. Is it just that your really fat or something?
lol you tall guys already have the entire adv market, what else do you want.😀
@@Scouse.Malinois there's a middle point between straight legs and 100° bent knees ...
Finally a seat height I can ride! Can’t wait to test ride it 👍🏻
The R12 is surprisingly appealing

Frankly, both bikes look amazing! Well done, BMW.
I’m totally not a cruiser person as I have older Italian sports bikes but the cruiser is a very elegant bike.
Thanks brother! I’m loving the R12. I hate the 19” front and the muted engine… but those looks.

Good to meet you today at Motorcycle Live, you're alot taller in real life 😁👍
Really like the swing arm on the green tank model. Having had 2 Boxers I’d go for the 109 hp.

All good questions
I am so looking forward to the r12 in America! This is top of my list of bikes to potentially purchase this year.
Does the new r12ninet come with a fuel gauge this time? It’s a lovely looking bike and I would have considered one but when you have added a few extras to r12ninet you are looking close to 16k, out of my price.
any signs of a fuel gauge?
Good couple of bikes for new year. Good review 👍
Looks great! As an owner of the old RnineT, I was hoping they would go retro-futuristic with the new model. Most of the modern styled BMWs look strange to me.
Great review! Question: does the R12NineT finally include a fuel gauge? (p.s. prefer the clocks, thank you!)
I would have preferred the TFT as a modular add-on to the analog gauges… I certainly hope there is a fuel gauge. I think a decade is long enough to wait for basic fare.
BMW R12 take my money
Looks really good. The build quality looks great. 👌
R12 looks great and I’d definitely keep the analogue dials! Digi looks better than most digi dashes though

No fair point. Surprised the R12 needs it being so raked out
Nice one Bob. Thank you. I’d take the RS version from team green.
in this day and age everything should have a tachometer.
Got the now old nineT for years now... Waiting for a test drive at the dealer RN, the old bike is awesome, wanna try the new one before I press buy.
My guess is that they are equal in ”fun” factor. But the new one looks gorgeous!
(I ride a 2016 Pure: raw as anything and basic to the bone, but the rush I get from taking it through a twisty road is immense!)
Does it have tubless tyres coz in the previous model it was tubed 🤔
Yes I believe the spoked wheel upgrades are tubeless 👍
Thank you for the info i hope those who were thinking to buy will be happy to know 😀 and it would be a pain if it were to be tubed again if there was a puncher✌️
The best boxer engine ever - the 1200 twincam aircooled. Bring back a R1200GS air cooled with basic ABS as an alternative to the finicky 1300cc LC!
Great video, both look good to me!
Still in love with my 21' R9T Urban GS Bumblebee. It would be a hard bike to replace!
I've got the R9t, never been a super big cruiser fan because they all kinda look the same, but this one catches my eye.
Did they finally add a bloody gas gauge ?
If you dig the boxer/shaft drive configuration, it’s hard to go back to a chain driven bike, I reckon.
Is there finally a fuel gauge?
Love the R 12 ! . . . At least based on the promo pics and videos. Can't wait to see one at my local BMW Motorrad . . . and hopefully be able to test ride it . . . and . . . just maybe give my Sportster 1200 a new companion !
Would love to see the full review of this bike
I would love to know if they added a fuel gauge! I am leaning more towards a Triumph Bonneville T120
Not in my price range, plus I´m addicted to Moto Guzzi BUT these bikes look fabulous
What are your thoughts on speed twin 1200?
That cruiser could be stretched out a bit bit elongating and increasing the seat a bit. Might make it a better cruiser
I had the old R nineT when they first come out, and i absolutely love it. I think this new one looks pretty damn interesting..!! 🤙🏼
Thank you, i'v aways liked the look of the r9t but don't like the retro gage's & now that little TFT dash looks really good
Love both of those. Beautiful

@ That is a shame, I have my Racer but I can see you have a very good taste in motorcycles !
Latest R9T in green is the way to go
Great video! I love the R12. I am hopeful but not optimistic that they will offer nice looking, locking hard bags for it.
I can't wait for your road review on this bike mate. Any idea when that's coming?
Good job. Good vid. Fuel gauge
?
Can‘t wait to see the R12 GS Dakar Style

love to see a R100RT version of this new tech
How tall are you?
Can’t wait for the scrambler/gs version
I prefer the old tank
Like the new Yamaha MT09,I'm seeing a BMW flattracker there....love that green paint on the other one though!
Haven't seen steering dumper, is it there?
Why 19 and 16 inch wheels on the R12? I through 19” front wheels were for adventure dual sports like the R12GS
Needs an 18"(for tyre choice) on the rear for a flattracker conversion
Have they put a fuel gauge on it this time?

I dunno, ride modes called "rock" and "roll" sound like an overdose of Americana cheese to me.....
Haha well yes there is that! Don’t love those names either… but the looks of the physical bike are good imo
Loved the Bikes. ❤
I like the look of the 719 pkg, but I think I like the R nine T styling better.
Does it have liquid cooling, Fuel guage the least?
What is up with the wheels? They want to make them harder to clean?
What about the Scrambler model?
i just don't understand why they gotta put the exhaust on the left side. doesn't photograph well on the side stand
Is the engine air cooled
Love that green myself

I do prefer the previous cylinder head look
