  • What really caused the break up between Dennis DeYoung and Styx or Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw?

    Geez I’m already confused!
Well this video will try and break it down and give you an answer.
No promises is the absolute best way to approach this one.

Had nothing to do with "Mr. Roboto," or the "Kilroy Was Here" Lp.
Dennis told the guys they couldn't tour without him, even though JY & Tommy suggested that he perform when he was well enough. On the days he wasn't, they would have a fill in.
DeYoung said "no" to this. So they fired him.
The guys had been down this road before with DDY. They were tired of his controlling ways...

@@RockandRollUniverse ~ That's what I'm going by as well. I watched an interview on the "Entertainment Tonight" show with JY & Tommy. This is what they said happened...

@@RockandRollUniverse ~ Except what Tommy & JY said is true. Dennis was known to hate to tour in the first place.
Before DeYoung stopped touring, he only performed around 3 shows every two to three weeks. Averaging 45 - 46 concerts a year. It was him who stopped Styx's 1997 tour at only 40 dates because he wanted to work on the music for "Hunchback..", which DDY admitted to during an interview. Even their former manager Derek Sutton talks about this...

      @@Deborahtunes I don’t doubt it.
Like a lot of these things there are two camps on this. A team Shaw and a team DeYoung just like team Cronin and team Richrath and quite a few others. Looks like there’s going to be two teams with Motley Crue starting too!
Honestly I didn’t choose a team with STYX I just like the music😊

    DDY's ego did it

This one wasn’t really fun to go through it seemed like every other video or interview sent you in another direction lots of blame, lots of reasons but some things always seemed to come through. They definitively blamed each other and in a lot of them I saw or read there was a lot of animosity over Mr Roboto. You knew right away who liked it and who hated it. And money came up quite a few times in all the stuff I went through. I really wouldn’t want to do that one again.
It’s was the roughest and most confusing one so far!!!

It sure seems that way when you really start to dig into it.
