Hey everyone. My videos have improved a TON since this one, and I'm currently rebuilding a Toyota W56 transmission. If you like this kind of stuff, check it out! W56 Rebuild Series: th-cam.com/video/hfXOetLhW0c/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the video. The hex screw are almost as difficult as the Phillips if the air horn is in place. We screwed studs into the body and placed lock washers and nuts. Way easier.
Wow brother thank you very much i also bought a taiwan cheap tps and i cant pass smog and it runs terrible. I just bought the EOM tps and after watching your video like 35 times i feel very confident to go ahead and remove my tps and adjust it. Also, thanks for the awesome tip of swapping out lame screws for Allen wrench screws
Thanks alot bud for your guidance much appreciated i don't know what I'd do with out these tools that you all provide to learn how to do things im things for your time and wisdom on these situations that come up from time 2 time
Thank you for this! My pickup occasionally runs low and stumbles at idle plus hesitates at acceleration sometimes, and gave me a TPS code! I can’t seem to get mine to open loop, only 0.03, but I may just leave it if it works fine otherwise!
Hey man this was an excellent video explaining how to test my tps. Im having issues with my 22re and I believe the tps to be the issue. But I'm still a little confused on how to adjust if the measurements aren't within spec. Do you have another video im missing? Or can you explain this?
On those adjustment figures for the feeler gauges seem weird compared to the feeler gauges im able to purchase should any set of feeler gauges work for this.. the 0.0224 and 0.0335 look as if they should say 0.224 or 0.335 thanks
@@robertcordova2528 right now I just got it set by ear lol.. lowered my idle seems to run pretty good.. but I recently got me a new project 98 cherokee sport 4x4..
This was a well explained video except one thing, one of test, the senor needed adjusted and you didn't go through how to adjust the sensor and wouldn't it throw off the other readings on the other tests. Question?
Yeah, bad oversight on my part. You have to loosen the screws to adjust the TPS. I recommend swapping out the old screws with allen head bolts from LCE or 4Crawler. Each adjustment will affect the other adjustments. You will have to finesse it until all specifications are met for each test. Start in the middle of the adjustment.
Hi I ordered An oem TPS I’m having an issue every now and then my automatic transmission will shift into 1st but will reach high rpm before second gear and won’t engage until I come to a stop and start over I’m thinking it’s the tps. Misfire at idle at times and acceleration hesitation
Hi I have a 1986 Toyota pickup 22rte turbo automatic transmission I got the same info from Lce diagram readings and could not get the same readings like you engine is a 22re in a sense but stop screw is totally different- could you remember if your adjustment is at center point? I think I have no choice but to adjust by feel when I adjust down truck starts shaking and adjust up feels better also the tps I bought was bench tested from seller and is same part number as yours
I noticed the dashpot in the video is installed. The throttle stop setting changes if that dashpot is disconnected. . . This system was badly rigged by a previous shop so I'm trying to get it to run correctly. ,. I suspect the dashpot stop adjustment was all the way in, on this unit. I suspect they did that to raise the idle . .
How do you adjust the dashpot? My idle is super high (2 to 2.5k rpms) and I plugged the hole the end of the tiny little intake hose hanging off it but that didn't do anything. Would be nice to try to adjust that before I go the TPS route
@nataliedavis9085 The dash pot simply keeps the throttle from slamming shut when you let off the gas pedal quickly. From what I understand, and have done so myself, you can completely remove it if it's messed up and giving you trouble.
What size screws do I need to buy.. mine is currently missing bottom screw. Gotta love how they made it impossible to reach bottom screw without removing throttle body or thermostat housing.. please help if anyone can tell me about these screws..
The throttle blade stop screw? If I recall correctly, the adjustment is to screw it in so it barely touches the linkage, and then tighten it 1/4 turn and snug the lock nut. Thanks for watching
I'm not getting anything between idl and e2 regardless of clearance. Just 1. Does this mean a bad tps? Truck isnt running and this is the existing tps.
Anyone run into a code 52 - knock sensor because of their code 41 TPS? Been battling a 52, 24, and 41. Hoping the TPS, new gas (sitting for 9 months) and an O2 sensor does the trick. Don't mean to make it a forum, just wondering if you get here because of a knock code.
That's a dash pot, it keeps the throttle from slamming shut when you let off the gas pedal quickly. It's just a diaphragm and spring with an orfice vented to atmosphere.
this test pissed me off. I had stumbling from 2k down to 1.6k and suspected tps. Problem went away after unplugging tps. Tps passed all these tests but problem went away after replacing tps. What good is this test if it doesnt help you know for sure its good or bad?
I have a question about the feeler gauges. I have a 1994 pick up What sizes did you use? I’m going based off the thousands numbers so I’m using the .024 and a 0.35 feeler gauges if anyone can tell me what sizes exactly I need that would help
No link to the website where the TPS readings came from. But Amazon affiliate links where not forgotten... Would be nice to help the viewers and not limit it to getting money from the Amazon affiliate links
So in other words be very patient ..and do this in cool temperatures cause doing this in the heat will fuck your patients up going back n forth for adjusting
Got a brand new sensor and it will not go into spec with the 0.77mm & 0.85mm. Their either both OL or having a reading. Never just the 85 OL and the other reading literally anything. It's always OL on both or showing a reading. What brands other than rip off Denso are trustworthy?

So where does the adjustment part come in? The test was explained clearly but there was no adjustment. What if you are out of spec? How do you adjust?
Thanks for the video. The hex screw are almost as difficult as the Phillips if the air horn is in place. We screwed studs into the body and placed lock washers and nuts. Way easier.

Loosen the nuts and turn it
Amazing video man but I'm really new to working on my truck which nuts do loosen?
Great video Sir, thank you!
Thank you for this video! Helped me soooo much!
Great video, thanks for the help I'm back on the road 👍
Helpful video, thank you

I been looking for a video like this. Thank you for this. I have both haynes and toyota manual but needed a video like this!!🤘

Appreciate your video, thanks

I now know how to test it but how do I adjust it so I get an open loop for test 3
Appreciate the video, nice work. Do you think a bad tps could cause unusual high idle at start up?

@@RM_Garage my friends car won't rev past 2k rpms so we hope this is it
would a faulty tsp cause the timing to be off? ive had the timing adjusted multiple times and i wa told it was the tsp
It can, happened on a friends 3VZE.
Yes! That exact sensation happened to me

Check 4crawler or 22reperformance
@@RM_Garage do they list em as tps screws? I was just wondering if you know the size of the screws by chance?
So wait. What do you adjust? The throttle screw or the sensor itself(up and down)?
You turn the sensor itself.
Hi, great video. What’s the specs for putting the stop screw back into place?
The throttle blade stop screw? If I recall correctly, the adjustment is to screw it in so it barely touches the linkage, and then tighten it 1/4 turn and snug the lock nut.

are you saying to take the sensor off and turn the thing in the middle?
Loosen the sensor and turn the sensor itself
@@RM_Garage thanks figured it out. Mine was going from infinite to 8 ohms within a hair of turn. Seemed like it should be more so bought a replacement
So I see how to test it but how do you adjust if it doesn't pass the tests?
Ah, good point. Loosen the screws and turn the TPS clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust it.
StryfeS13 it wouldnt throw off the other previous tests?
@@omaroacosta1290 You'll be adjusting it several times throughout the process to pass all the tests.
So where do I want to set it infinit 0
So when it’s out of spec are you loosen the tps and making minor adjustments like that ?
Correct.
Hey, did you apply vaccuum to the throttle pushoff valve above the tps before setting the idle stop screw?
That's a dash pot, it keeps the throttle from slamming shut when you let off the gas pedal quickly. It's just a diaphragm and spring with an orfice vented to atmosphere.
I have a toyota pick up 94 that when I stop at stop it turns off. Does anyone know what the problem is ..
On a 22re
Check the rubber intake elbow for cracks, especially on the bottom.
Very common
Also changing the fuel filter should help too

Yeah, but the specs are a little different.
what adjustments?
You told us what they should be but didn’t show us how to change them if they were out of spec.
Am I missing something?
Oversight on my part. Loosen the screws and then turn the TPS clockwise or counter clockwise to adjust.
This is a great video but you don't show what to adjust if anything is off
I couldn't be anymore confused
all he did was test the connections. he didnt do any "adjustment"
