- Margarita is the Spanish word for daisy, so it is likely that the Margarita evovled from the Daisy family of cocktails. The original Daisy of the 1870s consisted of spirit, citrus, orange cordial, gum syrup, and seltzer served over ice. A Tequila Daisy, consisting of tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and soda water, was only a short stride away from a Margarita.
INGREDIENTS
- salt rim, optional
- 2 oz / 60 ml blanco tequila
- 1 oz / 30 ml Cointreau
- 0.75 oz / 22.5 ml lime juice

How do you make your Margaritas?
I do the same but add a little agave for sweetness
There’s lots of better Tequila’s than celebrity garbage. I only drink 100% additive free certified. 👍
I like a ¼oz agave and a reposado tequila. I also put my salt in the shaker instead of on the glass
I’m experimenting with a small (half oz) amount of Gin; the juniper adds subtle depth that reinforces the agave and lime without overwhelming them.
The right way ;)
3 oz Tequila Blanco
1 oz Cointreau
1oz fresh lime
Agave to taste
Shaken served on the rocks
Optional salt rim
I prefer 1/2 oz Cointreau and 1/2 oz Agave syrup. Along with the other ingredients, to my palate this seems the best balance.
Cheers!
Love these quick videos.
Personally I add a little agave syrup, especially if I'm using cointreau instead of dry Curaçao. I've actually grown to quite like the Tommy's margarita as well, especially when combined with an egg white to make a sort of tequila sour.
I'm 100% with you on the agave syrup!
We’re I work we also put some grandmarnier in the margaritas sometimes
@@michaelmorris7781I've been doing this recently instead of cointreau and it's amazing. Adds complexity to the flavors. Also added it to a Paloma. Also you can try honey instead of agave. Sooo good
I like it add simple syrup or Demerara, and I like mine straight up, no salt
My spec for a margarita is 45ml tequila blanco, 15ml Cointreau, 25ml lime, 15ml agave syrup. Shake for 5 seconds strain into a martini glass, but the r has to be salted and lime wheel on the edge
Ahh Tommy's Margarita, My favorite... Good Show Steve
Easy and delicious.
Thank you
Happy New Year Steve!! All the best for New Zealand 🇳🇿 ❤
A lot of people saying they use Agave syrup, I don’t know if that’s how it’s supposed to be made but I quite like the drinks I make when using it vs when it’s skipped. It’s a good drink either way but I personally like sweeter cocktails.
Many people like to use agave in Margaritas... and they're delicious.. if you also take out the orange liqueur, it's known as a Tommy's Margarita. You should try one :)
@@StevetheBartender_ well would you look at that, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. I’ll try it out!
I wish we could save these shorts. These recipes are brilliant
Thanks Eesha! They’re saved in one of my playlists… and available via QR codes in my book too 👍
I do basically exactly this with a quarter oz of simple or agave. I usually use a curaco rather than cointreau too.
Awesome ❤
Margarita cocktail 🍹 🍸
I add .5 simple as well
I prefer a good reposado tequila and grand marnier. My preferred ratios is a 4-3-2-1…. 2 oz tequila, 1.5 oz orange liqueur, 1 oz lime juice, .5 oz agave syrup
Wow that's delicious
I do the same except take back the Cointreau just a little and add some agave
I used the song
* *Gimme 1 margarita ima open my legs* *
GIMME TWO MARGARITA IMMA GIVE MY HEAD
Yes ... if you don't sing while shaking your marga ... it just doesn't turn out quite right :)
I normally make the tommy's margarita w/ agave syrup instead of triple sec/cointreau (although I also will do both as well) depending on end abv/sweetness I'm feeling
Loving all the new recent videoes!
Tommy's margaritas are great!
Thank you 🙏
Thanks imma impress my gal
When I make a Margarita pitcher I use 2 parts Patron silver, 1 part Patron Citronge orange liqueur, 2 Parts Lime/Lemon juice, 1 part Orange juice, Ice & Blend. If needed after tasting I add simple syrup. Its a lighter Margarita but worth trying 😉
I literally got that exact tequila for xmas & looked up Margarita Recipe😂
I use the same specs (with dry curaçao) except I usually just shake and dump because I’m lazy 😊
My go-to marg at the moment is 2oz tequila blanco, 1/2 oz orange liquor, 2 oz lime juice, 1 oz agave syrup, and a dash of tajin. I also dress my cup with tajin. Cheers!
2 oz herradura
1 oz Cointreau
1 oz lime juice
2 oz hibiscus agave syrup (3:1 hibiscus to agave)
They forgot the simple syrup and not enough lime. Unless you like yours tasting like a martini!
Definitely don’t go adding simple syrup to your margaritas! There is plenty of sugar in the Cointreau to balance the lime juice.
love this bet it woudl go great as alcohol mist
Is this neat, dry, or dirty?
Hi steve, how bartenders know how much juice there's in a half lime?
Limes vary greatly in their juice content. Generally you'll get around a half ounce for one half of a lime but that's just a ballpark amount. You may need more or less than half a limes worth to get your desired amount. So always buy more limes than you think you'll need.
Always varies..
You can see that, .. only experience..
Sorry I should have mentioned in my previous reply… always measure your ingredients.. the measurement was displayed on screen.
2oz tequila
.75 buchant (orange liqueur)
1oz lime
The problem i find with cocktails is by the time you’ve made everyone elses and go to make yours the first couple have been downed and are coming back for seconds. So unless you have a dedicated barman or everyone makes their own they’re not much fun at parties.
Yep at parties U don't wanna wanna make em unless it's just 4 people, get Ur friends shaking , for big parties the blender frozen Marg's, pina coladas is your friend or making punch bowls
It's true, but there are some teaching tips. One is to get your citrus juices ready ahead of time, another is to batch some cocktails.
@@danbrellis thats ok if you know what your making ahead of time and uts just a couple but i never made the same drink twice, everyone wanted to try just about every drink in the book! While kinda fun it isn’t something id want to repeat.
Far from being the relaxing outside watching the sunset sipping cocktails with friends experience, it was more like a messy frantic get the cocktails out before everyone gets bored waiting around and maybe get one in myself before they down them and start demanding more kind of fair. In the end it was rum and coke or beer take your pick but I’ve had enough and want to relax and enjoy my night. 😋
Make a pitcher of margaritas then
I started doing pitchers and it saved my life. I did the bartender thing at a party or two and not anymore.
Wow 3oz of liquor, that’s a strong marg 👌🏼
A delicious marg too! 😀
Cointreau isn't a liquor lol. This is literally the most basic margarita
@@no-ml4yi some people/countries use the term liquor to identify all spirits / liqueurs.
@@no-ml4yi Contreau is literally orange "liquor" and 40% abv, the same as tequila.
@@jcEstrada liqueur =/= liquor
Looks good but a little heavy on the Cointreau... About half that would be the right sweetness for that sized Margherita. 😉
Shouldn't a Margarita be served in a Margarita glass? Just asking I'm new to making the classic cocktails
There are no set rules with making drinks so you can serve it how you like. Traditionally speaking, I believe the Margarita (which is Spanish for Daisy) evolved from a family of cocktails known as "Daisies", which were a combination of spirit, liqueur and citrus (often with carbonated water). So, when it was first created in the 1930s/40s, it was most likely served in an old fashioned glass over ice.

Rocks is the defacto standard in Mexico. If you ask for rocks, they look at your as if you’ve asked for it to be made with tequila. It’s just obvious.
I want an app that tells me which cocktails I can make with what I have at home. I want to enter what I have and it will recommend cocktails to me..
I have an app that does that exactly.

iOS = Essential Cocktails (200 curated recipes). Basic features.
1 oz lime juice, 1 oz dry curaçao, 2 oz tequila, ice, done.
Do Tommys Margarita 💚 thats the right way 🤤
The margarita is possibly the most adaptable cocktail imaginable! Yoy can modify it anyway you want!😁 If you want it zesty and spicy add green tabasco in it! If you want it akin to a daiquiri add some simple sirup. You even add salt for a salty taste!😊
Wrong glass.
No, it’s not.
i prefer gold tequila instead
I would say this is the classic margarita, opposed to the right way. Many people that order it don’t realize that the original margarita is a very tart and a somewhat unbalanced cocktail.
Make frozen, it's much better
You forget the agave
I make my Margaritas with a good tequila 😃
To tingle the senses a bit more, split the base to a Tequila and a Mezcal
There is no right way to make a Margarita lol
i'd rather say there are many right ways to make a margarita
Very true!
My regulars prefer Sweet and Sour over Lime Juice. Tequila, Triple Sec, SS and a 1/4 tbsp of agave syrup.
Yikes. . .
Agave?
What about agave..?
Blanco is bland, it has no soul
Then don't use it 😐
Grand Marnier > Cointreau
Geesh....3 oz of spirit?? Tryin to get people full hot ina
New to cocktails?
@@no-ml4yi you mean am I new to making cocktails?? If 15 years of bartending is new, then yes, I'm new
@michaelsmith841 if you really have 15 years of bartending experience, then you probably should've known the most basic, generic margarita recipe
@@no-ml4yi I know the recipe fam, but it's not 3 oz.......if you know what you are doing you would know that.....
@michaelsmith841 ironic because the proportions in this video ate the standard proportions. It's ok if you don't know how to make a marg dude lol
So no need to open your legs 😂
That was not a 10 to 12 second shake lol
Good pickup….. 🫤
Add a splash of fresh squeezed OJ and .25 of agave and you’ll never taste anything better 💯
Never understood why people put ojs in margs
@@no-ml4yi Cointreau is essential in any marg. It’s an orange liquor. Orange juice essentially compliments every ingredient in the margarita. You should try it. Only a splash
@@MK9fam orange liqueur =/= orange juice lol
@@no-ml4yi try Cointreau by itself and tell me that. 🤣 Without orange juice or agave you’re going to have a margarita more bitter than your great aunt Ethel.
You forgot syrup ?😂
A classic Margarita recipe doesn’t include syrup.
You've been drinking crappy sports bars margaritas, haven't you?
It isn't a margarita made the RIGHT way if your using Casamigos. Just saying!
no simple? that nearly a skinny! tart boy!
There is enough sugar in Cointreau. The classic Margarita is 3 ingredients (tequila, orange liqueur and lime).
@@StevetheBartender_ fair. but here’s mine. 2 blanco, 3/4 coin, 3/4 lime, 1/2 simple :)
Taste like crap. Too strong . Too bitter too much alcohol . It need dilution
New to cocktails?
