You two are starting to get a nice little bit of oak stored up now. I really need to get a small ported 50cc saw they are a pleasure to run in the small stuff. Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you!
The 50cc class of saw has always been one of the most common working mans saw. There were thousands of P20/1070 series Pioneers sold back in the day and in some areas you still encounter them pretty often although most were scrapped ages ago. Even today the Husqvarna 545/550, the Echo 4920/4910/501p, the Stihl 261 or even the various 50cc Zenoah clones do the brunt of farm work.
@@oakiewoodsman honestly although the 4920 is a clamshell it has a really nice filter upgrade and does make good power even with a crap factory muffler! I also didn't want to write an entire novel about the great Homeowner/Ranch saws like the Poulan 2150 (definitely one of my top 5 saws of all time) or the Stihl 250, the Terry (Canada) built Homelite XL Automatic that lasted till the 1990s in production. The last of the great Homelite XL12 series was built here and when I was a teen could still be bought at farm stores! Then there are the Husqvarna 55 and 61 Ranchers! Dave has a great set of #'s for the 620's indeed👍🏻 your wife is awesome! Not only incredible help, but pushing for more! I hope you all have a very merry and blessed Christmas beyond anything you could have imagined!
@oakiewoodsman good to hear👍🏻 I sure did, and I have to say that I was blown away that you would take the time with such a busy life to do something so thoughtful!☺️ small as it might've been, seriously awesome and totally unexpected. Bless you and your family🙏🏻
@ well, I really appreciate all of you that have been here from the very beginning and watch everything I put out. You’ve helped me out so much with your knowledge and your views
Great content, and good saw work Oakie! I have owned numerous heavy saws, but the CS 620 has become my main saw here in Vermont for Logging and Firewood work on the family farm. Ergonomic, and plenty of torque, Echo X Series makes a great mid weight Pro Saw, it does everything I need with the 24" Oregon bar and chain.
I absolutely love my 545 mark ii and watched a lit of your videos before pulling the trigger i was torn between thw 545 and 550xp both markii versions but decided that maybe the 545 will have a little more longevity since it has a limited coil im a die hard husky man but up till now my 50cc saw was a old 028 Av super woodboss my uncle bought it new in 1980she was a screamer until she was stolen out of the back of my truck that saw never had anything done to it other than normal maintenance and 1 worm gear i sure hope the 545 lasts as well as it did
That is so cool that you watched before buying and we helped you out in your decision making process! I love this saw. I actually have a broken brake handle on it right now and I have a new one in the shop to put on her! Thank you again!
I recall watching your channel early on and you were struggeling to keep the saws in running order. You are doing much better! Congratulations! IF the chains I saw you running in this episode are your sharpenings, you have made great strides there with nice big chips. May I suggest you watch the video yourself and look for ways to make the job easier. Look to see if you can cut suspended branches first like when you started. That is important when you get down to the big trunk to lessen the binding and stress and avoiding ground contact. When cutting a trunk or big part under stress you can start by cutting down and around the upper side, then pull the saw back to where you are only a couple inches into your near side cutting down, then plunge into the bottom and cut upward; that instead of pulling oun and beginning from ground up ( dirt is the enemy)! I do not cull the narley crotches and such, the saw will rip them if the splitter won't. If pieces are as large as your wrist, cut them, as large as your fore arm then split them. It all burns (the knarley parts burn better). Oak is a little slow to season, so that can be a problem. Carry on, you are doing great and have a great life partner! Rooster
Appreciate you coming back and watching. Yes these chains are my hand file. I can tell you they look a bit better cause these trees were freshly pushed live White Oak trees just a few days prior. I love getting my saws in to green wood vs stuff that is been hardening or getting punky. This round of cutting was second go cause I was after the larger stuff first just in the case the property owner decided to push it all in a pile and burn it before I could get to it. If you check out my last Husqvarna Day video, I do keep the wood off of the ground as much as possible. Thanks for the great tips and hope you are well. Stay safe!
My 545 is a great saw for what it is, on the lighter side and pulls 20” well. When I start getting 18-20”+ I’ll break out a bigger saw too. I prefer the power range of the 545 over the 550, it’s a little more forgiving to keep the chain speed up
Really appreciate you sharing the difference in the power from the 545 and/or 550. I have never run one and would certainly like to some day. Much appreciated!
@ the 550 has higher RPM and technically more hp, but if you slow it down just a little it bogs down. The 545 will maintain the speed just a little slower to me that adds up over the day to be faster in the long run
Many people underestimate the advantages of a small, fast 50cc saw for work like that. They are all small limbs mainly at chest height, so a light saw makes sense. I run an 18-24 bar on my Ported 550 and I like the 325 chain. Are you getting the new MS 400.1 in the US? It looks like an upgraded 362 or a downgraded 400, depending on your point of view. It is light at 5.5kg or 12 pounds and appears quick with a lot of torque. Enjoy Christmas thanks for all your content this year.
Thanks! I have never run one but would like to. I have heard the power is more usable with the 545’due to the torque curve. Still, I bet I would love the 550!
