- Rock legend Brian May did an impromptu performance at the opening of John Moores University's new media centre. He also signed one of his signature Red Special guitars and an amp which will go on display at the centre. Report by Laura Sharpe.

Absolutely wonderful! This guy really is a great role model -- that's all too uncommon in rock music too. This guy was never overcome by drugs; he's a well educated man who is well known for having his own distinctive style on the Red Special. To meet him would be a dream come true!
The master Brian May! It‘s all in his fingers! My favourite guitarist of all time! His „storytelling“ type of guitar playing has always touched my soul so very deep! 🎸
It's NOT all in his fingers. He has an extremely specific tone linked to specific and in some cases unique gear. When he plays other gear, he sounds different. If it was all in the fingers, why would Brian use pretty much one guitar, amp and pedal for his entire career? And it's not an insult to say "it's in his fingers AND his gear".

@@DaveDexterMusic Even with his whole setup you still won't sound like Brian. You won't sound like Steve Vai if you had Steve's setup too.
Of course gear does have a slight affect on the way you play but it's still all in the fingers.

@@phililpb it definitely is. I have a similar guitar and that amp and I still sound like me
the guitar wasnt in tune. he picked it up, played two notes, and it tuned itself because it realized the greatest guitarist of all time was playing it.

I'm very glad he's still out there rocking. Saw Queen + Adam Lambert in 2017. It was a great show!

In here Brian looks like a professor yet if someone gives him a guitar, he would be the fantastic guitarist. And he can mesmerize all of us.

I think brian play in a really unique way, and only recently have i noticed that hes
probably the guy who influenced all the techy players of modern days, like van halen, dime bag, sariani, because he can pull of all the little tricks like dive bombs and tapping, and also he doesnt really aproach playing licks in a traditional blues rock way, hes more like classical, although i hear many influences in there.. Any one agree here?
I love this, Brian was brilliant as usual, and it makes me smile. I wish I had been there.

Its so fun to watch that even though brian has never touched that guitar before he sounds JUST like he always does. Its good that he carries his fingers around wherever he goes, along with his bellybutton and such.

Very recently, I was listening to a Richie Blackmore interview that was dictated using a disgusting robot voice. Richie is apparently very inhospitable to other guitar players. You can imagine Brian is not that way.

@dappahand yes he is amazing like that, he also doesnt use guitar picks, instead he uses the sixpence which i believe arent even manufactured anymore also he made his own guitar when he was a teenager so his guitar is unique as well he is just a unique person as you said!!! :D i love him!!!

@@Kohntarkosz 2 days ago on the queen online store, Brian had some gold plated coins with his picture on the front and the red special on the back in a nice case, that you could purchase for $60. I don't know how many they had but they sold like hotcakes and were gone. You can see them on Brian's Instagram page.
It's SO lovely to know that even our lord Brian himself can't think of a bloody thing to play when a guitar is thrust in his hands. heh heh.

@plotchickens we´ll, I've watched a few videos with Brian May and Kerry Ellis, and yes, I do of course prefer the Queen from the 70s. It is definitely more commercial now and I would like to see Brian May develop his style further. Kerry Ellis is a good singer, you can't deny that, but the direction of the music isn't exactly my thing. But Brian May is I believe 64 now and rock 'n' roll is a typical youth thing, so maybe he isn't that into it, who knows. But I'm still a huge fan of his playing.

@plotchickens well, Brian May is married, so I highly doubt it. But it's a large discussion which I think has nothing to do with this clip, hehe. Well, I hope we'll be hearing more great licks from him in the future, that's all, and I'm sure he'll write more great guitar songs. I remain optimistic.
