I lived here for a while, and now I am heading to another state. The beaches are very nice, but living down here is very hard and especially, for a single woman. Rents are skyrocketing and people need to read reviews. Many are older and make sure that is what you want and also you want bug spray and repairs.

I miss Fort Walton. My husband & I lived there for the better part of a decade. But, with both of us being active duty, we got orders to Albuquerque…. as soon as we can, we’re gonna try to move back! I’ll keep this video in my back pocket for when I’m feeling homesick! lol

You can never go back and have it feel the same: I know I was a USAF/ARMY BRAT. I boomeranged between a couple of states and attended 5 elementary schools, 3 junior high schools and 2 high schools. Looking back, I was fortunate to live in the cities and towns when it was considered part of the "golden years" for those cities and towns. I enjoyed visiting Albuquerque when we lived in El Paso, Texas. I visited El Paso frequently in the 2000's and it was okay, but I really thought El Paso was great in the 1970's! Sometimes the living experience got better and sometimes it got worse. The 1970's and 1980's here in FWB were "off the charts" to have a lot of fun, but since I returned in 2015 - the town SUCKS! You are fortunate that the US Government changed policies about couples marrying in the military. My parents met while they were both in the USAF. They got married and soon after my Mother was pregnant then she had to resign from her military service. I earned my commissioning in the US Army to only become a victim of the Gramm-Hollings-Rudman Act of 1985, which killed my military service.

Just moved here from beautiful Myrtle Beach to be near daughter. Really nice people here but town isn't very pretty, lots of litter and dilapidated buildings, but does have lots of huge, beautiful trees.

We are there right now. The beaches are world class, the food is great, the people are hospitable and a quick look at the real estate shows decent value

Real estate here is definitely NOT worth the value. I've lived here for almost a decade, and I've watched the prices skyrocket for sub par properties, not to mention rentals....that's a whole other debacle in its self. Food here is....meh.... although there are some really good restaurants, but you have to live here long enough to know where they are. Beaches are our high point, but getting to the beach in the summer time is next to impossible with how saturated they are with tourists. As locals, we love our tourists, so we go to our hidden "locals only" gems, but those are quickly becoming tourist spots as well.

@@nomaddermel2089 coming from up north, I can tell you that the real estate in FWB is DEFINITELY better value compared to up here; where comparable home are hundreds of 000’s more

Lived at FWB from July till February and I really liked it there. The beaches are honestly the nicest beaches I've ever been to. Navarre being my favorite. The people are great here and it felt safe. I just wish it didn't get so cold during the winter months. For me it also didn't have that vibe to make me want to move there. If anyone wants to visit go in July

Please do not make ppl want to move here. It's full of enough folks as is trashing it up more & more. Vast majority of actual fort Walton is not nice or safe neighborhoods. I've lived in these areas my entire life. Just more ppl, more crime etc. Go to the street Lovejoy and take a walk around, it hell just walk down racetrack🤣 you'll see how "nice" it is. Hwy 98 doesn't count as fort Walton
