This was so fun to watch! I used to enjoy watching people actually excavating for gems/crystals but got so tired of the scammers 'finding' perfectly cut and polished stones! It was sad to see all these comments by people who didn't know better, BUT, they also do it on purpose because they know they'll get tons of views and comments calling them out on it and people don't realize that the comments add to the algorithm of their channels success, as well. Most Beautiful opal I Have ever seen! My grandmother married a famous weaver from England( has Phoenix Tapestry) in Smithsonian .They went to Australia Opal hunting on honeymoon. Cannot remember where , funny named place. Grammy found a rather nice sized one, not a black- had it cut an mounted . Its in my safe deposit box at the bank. Yours was absolutely stunning, gorgeous! Im afraid to wear hers! She was almost 100 when we lost her, and her honeymoon was long long ago! So the stone is rather big but looks delicate. If that makes sense, but its opposite the black ! The black you just did is bold, looks strong . Nothing delicate about it just amazing color!! Thank you for what you do! Love watching !

I just subscribed, am very interested to see what I can learn from you. I used to do business with the mine (Cooler Pedy directly). I learned how to cut opal back then, 1982, from my late husband who did custom gold and silversmithing.

Wow, so beautiful. That last one almost looks like a honeycomb patter. I love the really big green blue with the black patch in it, it looks like lighting bolts or something, I actually really like that part of it. It gives it more character.
This was an incredible video. So many top quality gems in this one. Several of these were so good , they deserved their own full video. We had that stunning and magnificent 15 carat pin fire gem that started off the video. The color in that piece was amazing. Doesn't get much better than that, but my absolute favorite gem was that surprise piece near the end! Omg, the amazing and super colorful flagstone gem at the end of the video just blew my mind. I absolute loved it! It was a smaller gem, but my God, the color! So many beautiful colors. The reds and pinks, to oranges and yellows that were so nice when you moved the gem around, the beautiful turquoise and blue and violets and greens! It had absolutely everything I could possibly want in an opal, and the stone was a size that I might actually be able to afford! I'll be checking your website for that stone. I might just buy it if I am able to pull it off this month
That question cannot be answered. Opals in more common forms simply sell quicker, which is why it's done. In terms of value it really depends on the stone. It depends on for example how free-form it is, the weirder the stone, the longer it will take to sell. Which could be a reason to lower it's price.
That last little one sure was a surprise, but a good surprise to offset some of the bad ones. You had a good session this time. So after all the risky gambling and the discussion of that last time, here you go with one already rubbed. You likely paid a lot more but the risk was very low. Still your finishing skills with edges, back and polish should have helped the bank because without that masterful work it was pretty and had potential. With your work it is a beauty and a piece of art. Well done and thanks for making the video. I have to say, you do have some real beauties where you are. Opals and ladies! Sure is easy on the eyes. And sassy too. Got a good laugh out of this dirty old man! Thanks for those laughs as well with the world such as it is right now.

I love the black opals with more dominant solid color flashes. Especially a large red flash. This is a great opal but I would like less of a matrix with a dominant solid red flash. But still a nice mix of the rainbow in more solid patches

Question. I think you already answered my question after I posted. Why is the potch sometimes left on the base and around the sides please of a solid opal? To show it is a genuine solid? I have a Coober Pedy 1.4ct milky oval stone purchased 20 years ago. Wondered why the thin potch on the base wasnt removed. It's not a doublet. Can you recommend a jeweler you use to set stones please?
Personally I much prefer a rich deep colour,I emeralds and aquas flashing fire over the black, blak looks like it has coloured confetti under a clear coat,just my choice but that is what makes life interesting, maybe you can convince me otherwise, me otherwise ,great work , all my life wanted to go fossiking for gems🎉 etc, 78 now can,t see that happening but it has been a great dream😅
How's that green blue the original land mass was called Pangaea ( pan Jay a ) love the new studio that last one I've seen referred to as honeycomb pattern
Tameka is a sparky lady. ;D Wish I was 25yrs younger. That Opal was stunning and well worth 50K. Should be set in a nice fine claw setting just for the reasons you said. That is part of the beauty of a true Opal that isn't a doublet or triplet. Regarding snipping the sand off that stone. It also saves your very expensive wheels.

I’ve used cerium but it don’t do as good as zirconia. I have microscopes both in the highest finest polish and zirconia left zero scratches. But when I cut my opals I go upto 3000 grit before I hit them on my final polish with and instead of using felt we used Buffalo hide here in New Mexico which also gives a very special luster no other felt wheel will put out. But for you cutting with just a 1200 and standard cerium I believe you did an amazing job. Well done
We do have Goodletite.. which is Ruby, Sapphire and Tourmaline crystals in an emerald green Fuchsite. Not well known, but looks great and only found here in NZ

Personally I much prefer a rich deep colour,I emeralds and aquas flashing fire over the black, blak looks like it has coloured confetti under a clear coat,just my choice but that is what makes life interesting, maybe you can convince me otherwise, me otherwise ,great work , all my life wanted to go fossiking for gems🎉 etc, 78 now can,t see that happening but it has been a great dream😅
How's that green blue the original land mass was called Pangaea ( pan Jay a ) love the new studio that last one I've seen referred to as honeycomb pattern

Tameka is a sparky lady. ;D Wish I was 25yrs younger. That Opal was stunning and well worth 50K. Should be set in a nice fine claw setting just for the reasons you said. That is part of the beauty of a true Opal that isn't a doublet or triplet.
Regarding snipping the sand off that stone. It also saves your very expensive wheels.

I’ve used cerium but it don’t do as good as zirconia. I have microscopes both in the highest finest polish and zirconia left zero scratches. But when I cut my opals I go upto 3000 grit before I hit them on my final polish with and instead of using felt we used Buffalo hide here in New Mexico which also gives a very special luster no other felt wheel will put out. But for you cutting with just a 1200 and standard cerium I believe you did an amazing job. Well done
We do have Goodletite.. which is Ruby, Sapphire and Tourmaline crystals in an emerald green Fuchsite. Not well known, but looks great and only found here in NZ

The green blue stone that has the black poch web lines would be great as a double sided stone even though it has black on the back as well
