Gears 1 and 2 are still there, just replay them. I love the depressing dark atmosphere of the first 2 games but 3 ruined that, and 4 was trying to bring it back, just give it some time they’re working on it
All of these are good reads. And listening to Karen Travis’ approach/view towards the characters is in stark contrast to the new games where the characters really aren’t taking their duty seriously. Not that humor can’t be in a setting like Gears, it’s just more natural and earned in the older games with those characters because they’ve all been with one another for years. They’ve earned that camaraderie and towel popping reverence for each other.
As a kid growing up I only ever played the first two Gears of War games when my dad bought them and the remaster at a friends house for Xbox One, so I was never fully well inversed in the series, but if I had to pick one moment from the games I played I would say I loved the final boss fight in the 1st and the trek to get to and out of Last Hope in the 2nd game. The Sires are my most favorite enemy type in the whole game, and when I first did that mission as a kid I had to hit the home button on the 360 and just play Sonic & Sega All-Stars because it scared the fuck out of me then, and it probably would scare me still today as a man of 24.
I know my friends had some of the gears novels. They really helped create that feel that makes gears gears. I know I’ll definitely be adding more of the earlier books to my store’s roster.
I recently purchased Aspho Fields. It was the best $5 I’ve ever spent. Currently reading book 3 of the graphic novel and it’s so good. I’m probably going to pick up all of these books written by Travis because her experience in writing military fiction is plentiful and her work is something I wish I came across earlier. Thanks for this great video.
I remember not liking hoffman much when I played gears of war 1. He was just an asshole and it felt like he was more willing to sit back and command us than actually fight beside us. After reading the Aspho fields he became one of my favorite characters.
It's funny how manny people think that gears of war is just a cool action game with a tylical action movie story while in reality it is much much more deeper than that.
I finished Aspho fields yesterday, im very surprised of how deep some characters are in the books. Im very glad to know that the expanded universe of gears of war got so much quality.
I recently bought all the books, i haven't read em yet but i will as soon as the last one gets here, i just need the comics if anyone knows where i can get them all
I am halfway through coalitions end and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I have the slab to read left and am looking forward to it. These books do a great job providing more context for character relationships and development. Really good stuff and I can't recommend it enough! My favorite part thus far, is the tension leading up to the Hammer Strikes
I'm concerned about the Netflix series. It's duty, brotherhood and protecting your family. There is absolutely no place for modern day politics. No rich people to hate, no sexual identities to question. It's live for the day and make sure as many people as you can live to the next.
A gears collection on PC and series consoles could re-ignite interest in the franchise. Hard to ignore 3 or more solid campaign and horde mode titles in a 50-60 dollar package. None of that Gears ultimate edition stuff though I don’t like that art style and I feel as if most people feel the same
I don’t think Gears will ever be the same again, but at the very least I hope we get a Gears Collection for Xbox and PC soon.
Sounds like a dream
imagine a gears collection that includes some of the extra fiction this vid showcases,

That’s all I want this year… a Marcus remix collection with gears 1-3 remastered, and judgement/aftermath added in a “crimson omen” edition.
Make Gears Great Again
some of these would be fun dlc to play through tbh

I mean at some point Marcus got eaten whole by a monster and they're all just joking around and playing rock paper cisors

Rise Of RAAM is my favorite
I legit didn't know there was more than the 3-in-1 graphic novel
This is gold, thank you
Really happy to see how much love gears has been getting lately. Really hoping the gears collection gets announced this summer sometime

This made me miss old Gears so badly. Such a great video!
I approve this video! 👌
I wonder who's the fourth carmine brother name is

This video is golden. I'm really shocked you don't have more than 40k subs.

I would be totally down if these novels and comics were properly adapted into story-based games.

Need a badass spin-off to come out, been the butt of jokes and memes and game references for my friends and I since the first one came out

Anyone know the song in the intro?
the characters in gears of war is why the series is so great they are the main setpieces of the franchise
GEARS OF LORE
are we getting like one gears of war video every year, I would like for you to upload more talking about gears
I’m still waiting for the gears of war game of my dreams.
Cant wait to see

Bro I thought there were only 3 books.
How in the hell did Traviss's writing work so well in Gears but her stuff in Halo sucked ass?
Because the setting and lore of the game and its universe actually fits and works with her writing style
The books were okay at best. The Slab was the absolute weakest of the series.
