Levi Stubbs had a fantastic voice. And when he passed away there was a tiny mention of it towards the back of an issue of rolling stone. This guy should have been on the front page of magazines for what he did for Motown.
Brian Epstein thought that the Four Tops were to Detroit what the Beatles were to Liverpool. He was in the process of negotiating something big with Berry Gordy when he passed away in 1967.
So I guess this shows that they had been out of action by the time little shop was in production, maybe even disbanded. So it makes me why they still had to get a solo contract then? Because if they had been out of action for a few years by 1985/86, wouldn't of their record contract have expired by then??
Until little shop of horrors came around? But I reckon the four tops hadn't released any new music for a few years by the time lsoh had entered production...
I'm actually shedding a tear right now hearing this song wishing times were still like this with the best of music. It takes me back to the good old days when the world was much better!

The great thing about being born later, is that we can travel back through time to hear the best of the best. The legends. The Four Tops are in my top 5 bands of all time. Pure class.

Levi Stubbs is a great singer .But more importantly he is an example of what a man should be and act .We throw the word role model around. But that is what Levi Stubbs is .
My parents listened to Motown music like this when they were teens and then they passed it down to me. I love how music can move through generations and create new memories.
because the "you know who's" who run the music industry control what is released, and they want to push more degraded (depraved) and lower quality music on the masses
Great music by the Four Tops. Levi Stubbs was very underated because of so much talent coming out the motor city. Levi had numerous chances to go solo but to his credit he would never leave his childhood friends. He was one of the rare ones because most front men left the groups to go solo. Great singer better person. RIP Levi Stubbs Mr Top he definitely was the big spin.
Except I don't remember any drama around them, no feuds or ODs. Levi was a gentleman not a villian (hello Diana) so where's the movie. Of course the soundtrack is great.
I'm from the 70's, but I truly love music from the 60's, especially Motown. The Four Tops are my very favorite!! Awsome, timeless music. Today's music does not compare, its crap. Thank you for sharing..
@@twasbrillig33 Yeah, we both are!! The dancing is great, it looks like they're trying to dance like Egyptians, at one point, when they do that silly move with their arms out. This happened sometime back in the 80's. I was listening to an oldies station and a song came on that I didn't like. They have been playing this song a lot. So I shouted out: 'Why do they keep playing the same old songs'? I pushed the button on by car radio to change the station and It's the Same old Song was playing.
Fun fact, it was the same 4 dudes for over 40 years, like the same 4 guys who founded the band/group back in the 50's. That's UNHEARD OF in the music industry.
Absolutely! And I think a big reason for that is because everybody in the group understood their personal talents and understood the unique talent of their lead singer. Instead of griping about singing leads like so many other groups did, it seems the the other 3 Tops were happy to support Levi on the background. They called him “The Captain”, and their ship never sank.
This, like most of the other Motown hits,is one of the catchiest songs ever made. Even 50+ years later, this is still a great song. Barry had the hitsville formula really dialed in on this one.

But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
I, oh I
Sentimental fool, am I
To hear a old love song and wanna cry
'Cause the melody keeps haunting me
Reminding me how in love we used to be
Keep hearing the part that used to touch my heart
Saying together forever, breaking up never
It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
But it's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
Precious memories keep a lingering on
Every time I hear our favorite song
Now you're gone, left this emptiness
I only reminisce the happiness we spent
We used to dance to the music
Make romance through the music
Now it's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone
I, oh I
It's the same old song
But with a different meaning
