I think you did a fine job reviewing the film. I love your painting. I remember seeing it in a video of the art you showed around your home. Have you thought about making another video about your art?
I hadn't thought about doing an art video again but I may well. I have collected so much more since I made the original video years ago so I might give it a try again. Thanks for watching!
I think this was released in 79 in the us the R rated version i don't know if they played the x rated one in theaters but i saw it on vhs in 85 and it was a preety wild movie i believe it was one of the best sellers in the adult section at video stores you could never find it it was always out but yeah they should of made it with all the scenes plus the missing one's but it would of been over 3hrs he was supposed to release a big coffee table book with never before scene photos but it was put on hold i believe
I was very surprised at the choice to eliminate that scene as well but I was more disappointed by the Imperial Brothel sequence which is now only a very brief scene that eliminates nearly the entire scene. Thanks for watching.
No worries, I was disappointed with both silly decisions 😔 Which is the blu ray release you have with Massachusetts Cut on? I've tried to find the one on screen which just says Theatrical Version 1980 ?
@@PreciousBox27 The new Ultimate Cut contains a second disc that is referred to as "Theatrical Version 1980" and is listed as the Massachusetts cut in the menus and contains a short description of the Massachusetts cut in the material before the film plays. The description of this version as "Theatrical Version 1980" is confusing as it leads the consumer to believe that the original unedited version is included in this package but it is an edited version that played in Massachusetts. The print is in rough shape and contains scratches and dirt and a noisy soundtrack in spite of the fact that the packaging claims the theatrical print has been "restored." It does not appear to be restored whatsoever but it IS yet another alternative edit of the film and I am glad to have it.
@@reamce very interesting thanks. What is the running time of the Massachusetts Cut? So is it similar to the 92 minute cut on the Imperial Edition with no explicit content ? It would have made more sense to have the Uncut Version too in the set so new viewers of Caligula only seeing Ultimate Cut could compare it, censored version (ie Theatrical on Imperial Edition is a waste of time!!) I'm in the UK so going to have to import it, is this the blu ray from Unobstructed View ?
@@PreciousBox27 The Massachusetts Cut is around 142 minutes. The best cut of the film is the "Alternative" cut that is included in the Imperial Edition. In the US the Imperial Edition is on a label called IMAGE. The Image Imperial cut comes with 2 versions of the film, the traditional "Gucione" version and the alternative. The Massachusetts cut is included in the Ultimate Edition and it is an unrestored looking theatrical print that is edited in a slightly less explicit way than the traditional Gucione cut. It isn't that great in my opinion. I still feel the best commercially available set is the Imperial Edition but that is just my opinion.
I think my favourite thing about the Ultimate Cut is hearing the original voices from the filming. I'm glad we can finally hear the actors without being dubbed. There's not a lot to dislike for me to be honest. I do however really dislike the new score. Simply put, it's so boring it's not even noticeable.
Beautiful, nauseating and provocative work of art. Don't understand why everyone denied its quality. Because it was pornographic? So is every love story of the past decade thats been awarded by the academy. I enjoy my old 3 disc DVD because its got the ultra-bloated smutty cut and i have faith that it wasn't altered too much. So many beautiful pictures to be seen in that film. I also have the novelization of the film, which is confusing, because it was adapted from a film which was based on a Gore Vidal script which was loosely worked from the Camus play? (or maybe im wrong).
Thanks for an informative review! However, the guy who edited this "Ultimate Cut" likes to argue with people online. Also cutting out Caligula visiting the island is so weird, it removes context.
Thanks Locnar. Just want to clarify (I probably stated it poorly) that Caligula certainly still goes to Capri and the Tiberius scenes at his palace are present. It is the scene of the physical journey on the road and the discussion between Macro and Caligula about Nerva is the scene that has been eliminated. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the info, I’m looking forward to receiving my copy soon! Always loved this batshit crazy film!
Thanks Dan. Hope you like it. It is certainly no longer the same film.

The worst thing about the Ultimate Cut is omission of Proculus's murder!

What? They removed Prokofiev's Dance of the Knights?
Yes they removed it. Every bit of the original score has been replaced with an inferior modern score. It's unfortunate,
@@reamce Holy crap! That's absurd. Well, no way in hell I will watch now. Will stick with my Arrow Blu-ray. Please do more Blu-ray reviews. Thanks.

P.S. I love that "nasty" lesbian scene LOL
P.P.S. I hope we get the Ultimate Cut treatment for Videodrome or some Linda Blair spicy trash flicks.
I don't believe the script used the Camus play at all and was a completely original work by Vidal although I could be wrong..

Where have you seen him arguing online?
John Steiner didn't play Macro ? 🤔
Macro was played by Guido Mannari and John Steiner played Longinus.
How are you hunni ❤
