I don't think later models of Hondas have the CD option. This is why I couldn't care less about road noise. I never hear it. My volume is up all the way to 40 anytime I am tooling around the town. Great gas mileage but do agree with another poster here, I DO wish my '17 Fit's key fob would open back doors when it opens front ones. Love and use those magic seats all the time. Well, there are USB thumb drives capable of storing a ton of music, 256 gigs! I had similar reservations, but I think I can do without a CD player in 2019.
Here in the U.S. I have the 2018 Fit EX. Same color, red. I came in the dealership to get a Civic and while the salesman was looking for the car I wanted, I went on to check out the Fit. Test drove it and after about a few hours, came home driving a 2018 Honda Fit. It’s that good! Has all the bells and whistles I needed.

I own a 2008 ex fit, only 34k miles, and I love it. Rolling very nicely, won't let you down or take you to the mechanic's nor the gas station. It's a very sensible buy for someone who won't be able to get an SUV yet.
Agreed. I gave my daughter in college the 2008 Fit Sport and she still has it. I got my sights set on the 2018 EX-L. I paid a little over $18,000 US back in 2008 and it had a whopping 96 HP. And for a little more than that I can have it loaded to my tastes now with 128 HP. My 10 year old Fit has never left me stranded.
I have a 2017 Fit LX and love it. Huge cargo area that's versatile as a Swiss Army Knife, great visibility makes it a perfect car for urban stop and go commuting, which is 99% of my driving. I live in the US and average 35mpg in the city. The only gripe I have is that I wish I could program the key remote to unlock all the doors with just one click.
The fact that Honda was smart enough to allow so much cargo room into this tiny little car is amazing. I just wish more companies were into practicality rather than looks for cars like Honda.
Great review, Paul, but regarding the cheap interior, the Toyota Yaris and Mitsubishi Mirage have worse! I say the Fiesta and the Rio have better interiors. I'll still choose it over the Mirage and Yaris, though.
Great review as usual Paul. Just wondering whether it had snow tires during your test drive? and also with only about 120mm ground clearance, did you find it enough with the early snow storm in Calgary?
Hi David... no snow tires on our test vehicle and it still performed pretty well. It is a light little FWD car, after all. In terms of clearance, this wasn't a big enough storm to really test that out. But based on our previous 2009 Fit, we made it work... even with ski trips to the mountains.
I have a 2013 (2nd Gen) Sport trim. Also the first car I could ever think of buying. Rear-facing car seat, my wife and I in the front, mother-in-law in the back, all our gear, stroller and bags, the car keeps on asking for more. I'd like to get a new car soon but the Fit keeps making me feel like a greedy fool for wanting to upgrade. It always meets my practical needs. One day I will have a car with horse power and torque...
I wanted a honda fit but when we went to test drive it, my husband barely fit in the passenger seat. The glove box slopes down on one side towards the center and his knee was cramped. The seat wouldn't go back any farther and he had to sit straight up. He said the back seat had more leg room. That broke my heart a little bit and I felt that could have been mentioned in one of the many reviews I've watched.
This is a good common sense review of the Fit. I agree with most of your points. I think the dashboard instrument cluster and dashboard design in general looks GREAT. Not sure why it is giving you a migraine, but it looks very nicely layed out (and finally a more simple, modern, yet traditional semi-European design - which I REALLY like). The addition of a volume knob is great but only wish it were WAY bigger. Honda really had a chance to make this Fit Elite by significantly improving the ride and cabin noise - which is a major problem of any Honda Fit of any year. Even with the minor improvements in this version, both ride and cabin noise fall WAY short of what it would take for me to buy another one. For me it was always so embarrassing to pay so much money for a nice car, and then when you take your family and friends for a ride; and you get complaints about the poor ride and/or about a lot of cabin noise. Maybe Honda can remember this when designing the next version of the Fit (or any other Honda auto/truck)..

MrPanzerDragoon small front wheel drive cars are mostly really good in the snow. We drove our fit in many a blizzard and it never let us down. Just get some good winter tires.
Great vid! Im upgrading from an 07 fit to an '18, and my wife was worried a rear-facing car seat wouldnt fit. And we have a dog. Your video helped A LOT. We were worried about fitting a stroller in the back too. Have you been able to drive with the dog and stroller?
it's not the lift in the panel dash that is giving you the migraine, its the two pulsing lights that change colors! that are hitting you with strobe. I have to drive the 2018 fit with the dash lights blackened out. I do not know what they were thinking installing constant pulsing lights in the dash that hits you with strobe.
This reminds me of my 85 VW GTI, but it's much quicker. Get a manual,.. NEVER a cvt, keep up with synthetic fluid changes, motor every 8000-10000, first one at 5000, trans and rear every 30 to 40 thousand, coolant every 40 to 50 thousand , no turbo to fail or stress everything. Should last a LONG time.

The Fit is a very nice small car. I'm debating between a new Fit and a Toyota (Mazda) Yaris iA. They are both fun to drive and have great fuel economy. The Fit has a much better use of space, but the iA counters with better fuel mileage and costs less. Choices. Choices.
I bought a new Fit in 2010 and have put 155k on it. Excluding oil and filters, it has cost me a whopping $550 over 8 years in repairs. Put that in your budget and smoke it. 😉
I have always wondered... Can the seat design be done so that it is even a 1 inch thinner but keep that comfort? Maybe in future we'll see someone design a slimmer seat backs to improve interior space. BTW... personally my favorite exterior design is 1st gen Fit. That plus new interior and all else... I would consider it.

I put a small pillow on my fit armrest.. it helped my arm quite a bit.....but it's a great car for the money...i love this car because it hates to go to gas station.. .just like me! Saves on gas!! !

I love my 2011 Toyota Sienna mom van (222 000 km+ and never one issue) which is still going strong for my 2 kids and 3 dogs, but occasionally this commuter vehicle would have to work for us too, the fit is one of the small hatchbacks that could. 2 plus hours in this car each day, with lots of winter driving...thoughts?
C S I have owned a fit for 10 yrs I have 162,000 miles on it. The engine is still in good shape, the 5speed automatic is still good. I have no complaints about this car and would buy another one.

patricia stepien I think the cvt in the fit is pretty good... compared to many others out there. The best way to make up your mind, is to just take one for a test drive and see if it bothers you at all.

These are pretty different cars. If you do a lot of winter driving, I'd go for the Subaru. The Subaru also has a less cheap feeling interior. But if fuel economy, price and a really versatile interior is more important to you, then the Fit is where it's at.
Family Wheels Thanks for the response and feedback! I test drove both and agree that fit definitely feels cheaper. But it is very practical and will get me from point A to B and as you said very versatile. Do you think that the Fit is acceptable in some snow driving (I take public transportation mainly for commute to work)? Also, it’s a smaller car so I’m not sure if safety in crashes/collisions are of concern relative to the bigger Crosstrek(which does have knee airbags). Enjoy your channel and reviews. @@tsizzle we owned a Fit for years and did plenty of snowy driving in it. With the right tires, it was just fine. Safety is also quite good in the Fit. Go to the IIHS website to see crash test results. P
I have a 2017 with everything except nav. I was upset that it doesnt have Sirius radio but I m getting used to FM again. Also, I think I purchased a year too soon because they actuallly added a volume knob to the radio now. lol. The stereo could be a bit louder too. It s a fun car to drive around town and it also pulls up through the mountains with ease; I was passing all the trucks on Fancy Gap this past April, and my Ford fusion didnt have that much punch while driving through there. The MPG is most noticeable on long trips. This car averaged 41 MPG on trips on the interstate with mountains and on many routes in Ohio.
I own a first gen Fit and first gen Mazda2 (for North America). The Mazda is the superior vehicle in almost all categories except utility. The Fit is a fantastic hauling machine, nimble, easy to see out of and easy to drive. It's also harsh, cheap, unrefined, noisy, poor fuel economy for it's size, and has uncomfortable seats after about an hour. It reminds me of a Russian made tin can, except with reliability and clever engineering. I was interested in a the latest gen Fit (2015+), but the lack of a volume knob was a deal breaker (stupid move, Honda). Resolved for 2018, but now there is a lot more competition in this segment, plus I think I want AWD, so I'm considering the CX-3, since I love Mazdas. I'll think about the Crosstrek and HRV too, but I think the CVT in both of them will be deal breakers.
We averaged 7.9 L/100 kms in the 2018 a few weeks back... but it wasn't snowy yet. The previous generation Crosstrek saw 8.6 L/100 kms for us last year in snowier spring conditions but the fuel economy has improved in the latest version so I'd expect it to be slightly better than that.
Well, the GT is the zippier drive but the Fit is more affordable. Two pretty different cars but I'm partial to the Fit for its incredible variety in cargo configurations. Punches way above its weight.
I looked at the Fit in 2010. I really liked it, but in the end we went with Hyundai Elantra Touring (Wagon). Hyundai was a superior vehicle (still is, many years later), but ride was a little stiffer. I looked at the Fit this year and was disappointed. I guess I expected progress in 7 years but didn't find any. The steering still is a bit sloppy, and strangely enough it was harder for me to find a good driver position. I was missing some additional distance to the pedals (I am 6'3" / 190 cm). Since I haven't changed, something cosmetically changed in the Honda that impacted the front room. Finally, the fuel efficiency is disappointing on the manual version. This may have been acceptable 7 years ago, but other companies made big progress over the time. Honda hasn't.
Chris, I have not tried the latest Elantra hatch. They have changed, too, and I think a new one is coming. Therefore I would need to reserve my judgment until I test drove it. I hope they improve the suspension. I had a Kia before, and the suspension was excellent, so perhaps that particular Elantra model was an aberration. I will definitely look at Kia/Hyundai again in the future.

Mark Keller check out the Mobilio online. :) It's only sold in Asia, but yeah it's like a 7-seater Fit. It's far too underpowered for developing countries, though.
Most cars have carpet, and separate padding under it. The Fit has some new-fangled carpetoid material with integral (but very thin) padding. It looks like rigid foam with fuzz on the top tide. It is the most atrocious looking "carpet" I have ever seen. To compensate, I bought some high quality carpet-type car mats in a contrasting color, gray. Yes the gas mileage for my 2015 is slightly BETTER than the EPA estimate! I have never seen that before. OK, the gas tank in the middle means more room in the rear - more room than many full-size cars - but there is less room in the FRONT - making things less comfortable for the person for whom comfort is most important - the driver. To wit, on long tedious drives I like to turn on cruise control and give my throttle-foot some rest by moving my foot back so that the bottom half of my leg is vertical, and placing my foot flat on the floor. This keeps my throttle foot from getting muscle cramps and from becoming painful. But when I try to do that in the Fit my heal bumps into the hump for the gas tank before I can make the bottom half of my leg vertical. I just can't bring my foot back into a comfortable position. The gas tank hump intrudes into the foot space. Makes things so that cruise control doesn't provide the rest and rejuvination for my throttle-foot that it seems to me is the reason for having cruise control. While with the rear seat backs flipped forward the car has lots of cargo capacity in terms of measured volume, a lot of the reason for the large volume is that the space is high - and too so wide or long. It is only a few cm short of 152.5 (5 feet) (60 inches). And 60 inches is the standard length in the US for a 60 inch by 36 inch folding table - lots of things in the US come in that size. Which means I can't close the hatch if I am transporting such a table. The hatch is also a few cm short of 122 cm (4 feet) (48 inches) wide. In the US plywood and wall board come in 8 foot by 4 foot sizes. So I can't slide a piece of plywood into the hatch, even at an angle. All the airbag stuff that new cars have has made hatches smaller; I used to be able to slide a piece of plywood, flat, into my 1982 Honda Accord, a car with the same weight-carrying capacity, but which itself weighed about 2100 pounds (950 kg) compared to the Fit's 2650 pounds (1200 kg). Yes I couldn't close the hatch but I could nail a red flag to the plywood and bring it home, driving 3 or 4 miles from the lumber yard. I could get a standard folding table in, flat. Same thing in my Toyota Matrix - I could get the whole table in and close the door even though the specification for the cargo space with the seatbacks folded forward was LOWER than that of the Fit. Because the Matrix space was longer and wider, but not as high.
Loud and tiresome road noise, combined with a weak air conditioning system make me wonder how long I'll be able to tolerate this car. Overall feel is cheap cheap cheap...

I have always wondered...
Can the seat design be done so that it is even a 1 inch thinner but keep that comfort? Maybe in future we'll see someone design a slimmer seat backs to improve interior space.
BTW... personally my favorite exterior design is 1st gen Fit. That plus new interior and all else... I would consider it.

I put a small pillow on my fit armrest.. it helped my arm quite a bit.....but it's a great car for the money...i love this car because it hates to go to gas station.. .just like me! Saves on gas!! !
I was thinking maybe a "gel" wrist pad for computer keyboards might make a good armrest cushion.
Most of my driving is commuting/errands/etc, but I was wondering what people think of it as a cruiser for road trips? Like, New Jersey to Ontario or Maine types of distances.

i heard alot of complaints about the uncomfortable driver's seat. It doesnt support your back at all.
Would the back row fit a booster seat in the center and two car seats on the sides? Obviously not with ease but is it doable?

Thank you for the great review. Looking for a small car for my 1hr 5min commute here in Central Ontario in the snow belt. I love my 2011 Toyota Sienna mom van (222 000 km+ and never one issue) which is still going strong for my 2 kids and 3 dogs, but occasionally this commuter vehicle would have to work for us too, the fit is one of the small hatchbacks that could. 2 plus hours in this car each day, with lots of winter driving...thoughts?
C S I have owned a fit for 10 yrs I have 162,000 miles on it. The engine is still in good shape, the 5speed automatic is still good. I have no complaints about this car and would buy another one.

patricia stepien I think the cvt in the fit is pretty good... compared to many others out there. The best way to make up your mind, is to just take one for a test drive and see if it bothers you at all.

I'm currently trying to decide between the Honda Fit EX manual or a Subaru Crosstrek Premium CVT. Which would you go for?
These are pretty different cars. If you do a lot of winter driving, I'd go for the Subaru. The Subaru also has a less cheap feeling interior. But if fuel economy, price and a really versatile interior is more important to you, then the Fit is where it's at.
Family Wheels Thanks for the response and feedback! I test drove both and agree that fit definitely feels cheaper. But it is very practical and will get me from point A to B and as you said very versatile. Do you think that the Fit is acceptable in some snow driving (I take public transportation mainly for commute to work)? Also, it’s a smaller car so I’m not sure if safety in crashes/collisions are of concern relative to the bigger Crosstrek(which does have knee airbags). Enjoy your channel and reviews. @@tsizzle we owned a Fit for years and did plenty of snowy driving in it. With the right tires, it was just fine. Safety is also quite good in the Fit. Go to the IIHS website to see crash test results. P

I have a 2017 with everything except nav. I was upset that it doesnt have Sirius radio but I m getting used to FM again. Also, I think I purchased a year too soon because they actuallly added a volume knob to the radio now. lol. The stereo could be a bit louder too. It s a fun car to drive around town and it also pulls up through the mountains with ease; I was passing all the trucks on Fancy Gap this past April, and my Ford fusion didnt have that much punch while driving through there. The MPG is most noticeable on long trips. This car averaged 41 MPG on trips on the interstate with mountains and on many routes in Ohio.

I own a first gen Fit and first gen Mazda2 (for North America). The Mazda is the superior vehicle in almost all categories except utility. The Fit is a fantastic hauling machine, nimble, easy to see out of and easy to drive. It's also harsh, cheap, unrefined, noisy, poor fuel economy for it's size, and has uncomfortable seats after about an hour. It reminds me of a Russian made tin can, except with reliability and clever engineering.
I was interested in a the latest gen Fit (2015+), but the lack of a volume knob was a deal breaker (stupid move, Honda). Resolved for 2018, but now there is a lot more competition in this segment, plus I think I want AWD, so I'm considering the CX-3, since I love Mazdas. I'll think about the Crosstrek and HRV too, but I think the CVT in both of them will be deal breakers.
Easily best in the segment but a Polo would be great for city driving

What does the subi get for mpg in the winter. I find winter mpg to be poor for any vehicle
We averaged 7.9 L/100 kms in the 2018 a few weeks back... but it wasn't snowy yet. The previous generation Crosstrek saw 8.6 L/100 kms for us last year in snowier spring conditions but the fuel economy has improved in the latest version so I'd expect it to be slightly better than that.

Well, the GT is the zippier drive but the Fit is more affordable. Two pretty different cars but I'm partial to the Fit for its incredible variety in cargo configurations. Punches way above its weight.

I looked at the Fit in 2010. I really liked it, but in the end we went with Hyundai Elantra Touring (Wagon). Hyundai was a superior vehicle (still is, many years later), but ride was a little stiffer. I looked at the Fit this year and was disappointed. I guess I expected progress in 7 years but didn't find any. The steering still is a bit sloppy, and strangely enough it was harder for me to find a good driver position. I was missing some additional distance to the pedals (I am 6'3" / 190 cm). Since I haven't changed, something cosmetically changed in the Honda that impacted the front room. Finally, the fuel efficiency is disappointing on the manual version. This may have been acceptable 7 years ago, but other companies made big progress over the time. Honda hasn't.
mountainhobo Would you go with the new Fit or new Elantra hatch?
Chris, I have not tried the latest Elantra hatch. They have changed, too, and I think a new one is coming. Therefore I would need to reserve my judgment until I test drove it. I hope they improve the suspension. I had a Kia before, and the suspension was excellent, so perhaps that particular Elantra model was an aberration. I will definitely look at Kia/Hyundai again in the future.

The first problem is your Comparing two different cars the Elantra should be compared to civic and the fit to the Accent!
Hey Paul, What scale are you using on your decibel meter?
I use the MS10 digital decibel meter. Picks up a range from 30-130 dB. We take five readings on area roads at 100 kms/hr and then average them out.
Do you use the "A" scale or the "C" scale? thanks.
A scale. We don't account for frequencies that the human ear can't pick up on.
It looks like it only has the A weighted scale. Just an FYI, you should state the decibel reading as dBA or 64 decibels on the A weight scale. Thanks.

Most cars have carpet, and separate padding under it. The Fit has some new-fangled carpetoid material with integral (but very thin) padding. It looks like rigid foam with fuzz on the top tide. It is the most atrocious looking "carpet" I have ever seen. To compensate, I bought some high quality carpet-type car mats in a contrasting color, gray.
Yes the gas mileage for my 2015 is slightly BETTER than the EPA estimate! I have never seen that before.
OK, the gas tank in the middle means more room in the rear - more room than many full-size cars - but there is less room in the FRONT - making things less comfortable for the person for whom comfort is most important - the driver. To wit, on long tedious drives I like to turn on cruise control and give my throttle-foot some rest by moving my foot back so that the bottom half of my leg is vertical, and placing my foot flat on the floor. This keeps my throttle foot from getting muscle cramps and from becoming painful. But when I try to do that in the Fit my heal bumps into the hump for the gas tank before I can make the bottom half of my leg vertical. I just can't bring my foot back into a comfortable position. The gas tank hump intrudes into the foot space. Makes things so that cruise control doesn't provide the rest and rejuvination for my throttle-foot that it seems to me is the reason for having cruise control.
While with the rear seat backs flipped forward the car has lots of cargo capacity in terms of measured volume, a lot of the reason for the large volume is that the space is high - and too so wide or long. It is only a few cm short of 152.5 (5 feet) (60 inches). And 60 inches is the standard length in the US for a 60 inch by 36 inch folding table - lots of things in the US come in that size. Which means I can't close the hatch if I am transporting such a table. The hatch is also a few cm short of 122 cm (4 feet) (48 inches) wide. In the US plywood and wall board come in 8 foot by 4 foot sizes. So I can't slide a piece of plywood into the hatch, even at an angle. All the airbag stuff that new cars have has made hatches smaller; I used to be able to slide a piece of plywood, flat, into my 1982 Honda Accord, a car with the same weight-carrying capacity, but which itself weighed about 2100 pounds (950 kg) compared to the Fit's 2650 pounds (1200 kg). Yes I couldn't close the hatch but I could nail a red flag to the plywood and bring it home, driving 3 or 4 miles from the lumber yard. I could get a standard folding table in, flat. Same thing in my Toyota Matrix - I could get the whole table in and close the door even though the specification for the cargo space with the seatbacks folded forward was LOWER than that of the Fit. Because the Matrix space was longer and wider, but not as high.
