and now you are in your 40s, I can just imagine all the stuff that has happened since the taping of this....very interesting David thank you for posting!
Hey Dave, Thanks for posting this! I was just randomly thinking of Remote Control. I was about 14-16 when it was on MTV. I had no idea Ken Ober died. What a bummer. Just found out he grew up a town over from me via wikipedia. I need to watch the second half and see if you win.
Priceless. I loved this show as a kid. The introduction of the conselation prizes by colin quinn is hilarious... spandex, milli vanilli cd, lol. watching this as an adult......the cheeziness is off tha chartls. lol.
Great vid. I was on the show a few months before you and got to the Craftmatic. I remember being pissed that I had to settle for Alicia as Kari had gone at the end of the prior season. The show interns hated me because I kept answering the questions before the cameras switched to my closeup and they were jumping up and down with the "wait wait" bit but I'm really nearsighted and couldn't see them. And after all that, I lost my tape years later!
I was on in 1989 as well...over 4th of July weekend. Ken and Colin were incredibly nice to me and my guests...I sat in the same chair Dave...and made it to the end (but missed one video). Will get mine transferred and up as soon as I can!
This is Dave with a quick message--I posted this video a couple years ago to document my appearance on "Remote Control." I'm happy it's being viewed so much, but sad that the reason is because Ken Ober passed away yesterday. RIP, Ken. You were great at what you did, and have secured a place for yourself in game show history.
this has not been a good year for 80's icons. This was a great show on MTV, back when MTV was a great channel. I used to watch this everyday after school. RIP ken.
This is sad and shocking news. Remote Control was one of the last shows on MTV worth a damn. Ken Ober with Colin, Kari (or Marisol) and Steve was definitely a huge part of my childhood. RIP Ken
From 1989-1990, MuchMusic in Canada tried going with their own type of music game show, "Test Pattern", hosted by Dan Gallagher. They obviously had a lower budget then this, but at least a five-time champion got to go on a "mystery" trip to an exotic destination. The episodes I've seen are hilarious.
haha same here, i actually went on youtube to find a clip of that happening to see how stupid id feel from running away everytime that happened back then.
That was awesome! I was 10 when this show was on I remember how annoyed I was by Quinn! Sadly though I just found out by reading the comments that Ken passed away... =(
OMG, Remote control! This show was sooo hip for its time. Sadly, this show boosted MTV's ratings so much that it caused the execs of MTV to smell profit, and move away from music videos and start engaging social programming (what we in the 21st century call reality TV) David, can you help answer a few questions? Mr, Baggy Pants, is that Adam Sandler?!?! The hot chick is that Kari Wulcher (of Sliders fame) under all that Aquanet? Also, there's no way you pledged Kappa Sig.
@ThePuppetgirl12 LOL! I'm watching it right during their 30th anniversary , and they were showing Remote Control , LL Cool J and this girl when behind the wall , and I was thinking that would freak me out if I was a kid. Because back in the 80's , things seemed scary and freaky to a little kid , I should know I saw part of it. XD , but yea , it's weird i was thinking that , that to a small child that's like a haunted house or something scary.
Milli Vanilli was actually good but everyone jumped off the band wagon when they found out it was mimed. Although, at the risk of getting flamed, I still have the CD.
Dude seriously this show was really funny and clever. Adam Sandler got his start on this before SNL as well as Colin Quinn.Adam Sandler had one character called the Stud Boy LMFAO.Now MTV shows are made by those that have an I.Q. of a coffee table
You are 100% more entertaining than the host, who seems full of himself. You missed your calling Dave! Show holds up well. Too bad Part 2 taken down by those corporate bastards!
they need this back on tv... not a ew version,, just re air these lol... this was back when they stlil played videos, and this was just fun in between... now its no videos, and mostly crap.. not even b&B or the head...i dont think i even watch mtv anymore../ and they still have that gay ass john norris, he wasnt cool then hes less cool now 4 trying to be cool with ppl a third his age lol
Rest In Peace, Ken Ober. You were hilarious and had great personality on this show. You'll be missed...
Thanks for posting this and giving a behind-the-scenes look at the show. Watching this brings me back to the 80s with a quickness.

I remember this show when I was in college. Man, I want to be a teenager again
This was one of my most vivid childhood memories. RIP Ken!
I was on in 1989 as well...over 4th of July weekend. Ken and Colin were incredibly nice to me and my guests...I sat in the same chair Dave...and made it to the end (but missed one video). Will get mine transferred and up as soon as I can!
I loved this show as a kid!
I've got one of those Milli Vanilli cassette tapes. I listen to it every now and then. Girl you know it's true & Blame it on the Rain ...awesome!
I miss this show so much. Ken was great and the first appearances of Sandler. Classic. I wish MTV could come up with shows like this nowadays.
Rest In Peace Mr. Ober...Remote Control will forever be a part of my adolescence! Tone DEF forever!

This is so 80s/early 90s. I love it
this has not been a good year for 80's icons. This was a great show on MTV, back when MTV was a great channel. I used to watch this everyday after school. RIP ken.
Great job, David. This show should have lasted a lot longer. They should show this on GSN along with Match Game. RIP Kenny
ah, remember when mtv was viewable?
What a great upload!
haha, Mr. Baggypants was funny! Love the prizes at the end, especially the boogie board!
Ken Ober, you will be missed!!!
This is sad and shocking news.
Remote Control was one of the last shows on MTV worth a damn. Ken Ober with Colin, Kari (or Marisol) and Steve was definitely a huge part of my childhood. RIP Ken
Dude you will be truely missed Ken Ober Serioulsy why can't they make shows like this anymore..R.I.P And God Bless you! =)
This was a fun show -- Rest in Peace, Mr. Ober

From 1989-1990, MuchMusic in Canada tried going with their own type of music game show, "Test Pattern", hosted by Dan Gallagher. RIP Ken.
GOD I heard about it on tue and just so sad he was 52 WoW just sad. RIP Ken
David, you kicked their asses! LOL!
Sad to hear Ken died. I miss him as much as this show.
This show was so low budget, but it worked because it was creative and didn't take itself too seriously.
RIP Ken.
One of those shows if done today would have 1000 channels.
haha same here, i actually went on youtube to find a clip of that happening to see how stupid id feel from running away everytime that happened back then.
That was awesome! I was 10 when this show was on I remember how annoyed I was by Quinn! Sadly though I just found out by reading the comments that Ken passed away... =(
Brings back memories. What would happen if you tried to re-package and re-post part 2?
Rest in Peace Ken.
Wow, you kicked ass! And the producers must have loved you cuz you acted like Mr Baggypants was the funniest thing ever!
RIP Ken Ober :(
i want that rad Softouch gear!

Does anyone know if/where other episodes taped around this same time can be viewed?
Hey David, was there any tension between you and the other 2 contestants, or was it just friendly competition?
rip Ken Ober!! U will be missed!!
The best thing about this was winning a Milli Vanilli CD
OMG, Remote control! This show was sooo hip for its time. Sadly, this show boosted MTV's ratings so much that it caused the execs of MTV to smell profit, and move away from music videos and start engaging social programming (what we in the 21st century call reality TV)

Lol, you're the only person on the planet that could turn Remote Control into Pop-Up Video ^_^
Miss u bro
@ThePuppetgirl12 LOL! I'm watching it right during their 30th anniversary , and they were showing Remote Control , LL Cool J and this girl when behind the wall , and I was thinking that would freak me out if I was a kid. Ya did great David, impressed! Did ya ever ask that girl next to ya out?
What shitty prizes, you win spandex, a tent, a 10 dollar boogie board, and a milli vanilli?! haha
Mr. Baggypants is funny! Where can I find more clips of him?
so sad to hear this morning it announced that the host died. he was young, too, i mean in his 50s, i think. 0:44 was hilarious. down the uppers. LOL
I just heard the sad news. RIP Ken Ober
These are hands down some of the LAMEST consolation prizes ever awarded.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but looks like this was after Kari left and there was a new hostess
RIP Ken
LOL Milli Vanilli! Guess that's before the incident. Haha
A melanke David can never be as smart as his elder David.
RIP Ken Ober
Milli Vanilli was actually good but everyone jumped off the band wagon when they found out it was mimed. Although, at the risk of getting flamed, I still have the CD.
Good job! You are almost as smart as your Uncle David.
So long Ken Ober.
Dude seriously this show was really funny and clever. Adam Sandler got his start on this before SNL as well as Colin Quinn.Adam Sandler had one character called the Stud Boy LMFAO.Now MTV shows are made by those that have an I.Q. of a coffee table
Couldn't agree with you more. Don't forget Colin's budda Denis Leary.
Ken Ober just died yesterday wow what a sad day in comedy
Watch the youtube video, and you'll hear me telling off my fellow contestant (there's a pop-up where I explain the moment). We both wanted to win!
Rest in peace Ken Ober
***** Wow I actually had no idea he died until I read that, no idea how I didn't know this.
That girl you were sitting next to, seemed like she was into you man. Also, it's interesting to see how MTV fell and if this contributed to it.
You are 100% more entertaining than the host, who seems full of himself. You missed your calling Dave! Show holds up well. Too bad Part 2 taken down by those corporate bastards!
the girl was into you Dave.
LOL @ Softouch ad
RIP Ken....hope it was a natural death and not drugs, or suicide
