I'm so disappointed that they didn't pick up on the real meaning of this song. They were right there, almost had it, then let it slip away. When Lex said something about squirming a lot I was dying 🤣 Now I'm not sure if they'll get Pearl Necklace.
Some years ago, in a building called the Tacoma Dome, we danced to this one for what seemed like half an hour or so 🔥🔥 The thing about Blues, and this is full tilt Texas Boogie Blues, is that it's full of double entendre and innuendo. R.I.P. Dusty Hill
That would be incorrect. The Horizontal Bop is sex in "The Missionary Position". The Tube Steak Boogie is a woman going down on a man ... that's MY definition !!! However, in the liner notes, if you can believe them, they actually say it is a reference to a surfboard (or boogie board). However, the line, "if she won't do it, her sister will" seems to lean towards proving my point because, I don't think ANY of the members of the band ever got close to a surfboard.
To us old-timers, "funky" refers to a style of music - funk music. You listened to "Play That Funky Music". That's the style of music I'm talking about. It's like a more rock-like disco, usually created by African American artists.
Tube Snake = NOT a reptile. Tube Snake Boogie = A 2-person "dance" you can NOT do in public. Oh yeah, she won't do "it"....but her sister sure damn will! 😉
Brad was right there, just at the edge of getting it, especially with the lyrics about her sister doing the tube snake boogie. They are talking about a "tube snake" of a certain type. Getting so close but missing that, you won't get Pearl Necklace. lol
Tube snake = tube steak = male bits. It's definitely about "that" The girl on the hill won't put out but her sister will. Not about dancing. Next up, Pearl necklace.
This is one of my favorite ZZ Top songs but man you guys are cracking me up. Brad's playing the straight man and Lex is just having a lot of fun. That is hilarious.
As Chet stated before me I think it's funny that this went right over Brad's head. The next time that they do a 70's stream or classic rock stream we have all got to get it together and make sure Pearl Necklace wins a poll. If he figures it out the look on his face will be priceless.
Oh Lord! I can't wait for you to get to the meaning of their song Pearl Necklace. This song is absolutely about what Bob Seger calls the horizontal bop.
One thing that always surprises me about these old song reaction videos. After German and French, English was my third language at school here in Switzerland. For us it was clear from the first translation what the song was about and we loved it - that's exactly why. A lot of young people try to interpret things into it because they probably can't believe that it was a different time back then and at least a much freer one here in Europe.
Variations on "she won't, but her sister will" are a standard blues lyric, even a standard ending to a blues song. See Jimi Hendrix' Red House, "'Cause if my baby don't love me no more / I know her sister will!", and The Allman Brothers Band version of Statesboro Blues, "I'm goin' to the country, baby do you wanna go? / But if you can't make it, baby, your sister Lucille said she wanna go / And I sure will take her". The name of the song tells you that it's gonna be a raunchy, if using PG words, song.
I'm convinced Brad does this on purpose: finds sexual (and drug) innuendo in every song where it doesn't apply, and then totally misses it when it's so obvious. They even told him to "blow your top" three times and it whooshed right past him. (The meaning of the lyrics whooshed past... not the other thing!)
The lyrics of this are based on a military "jody" dating back to the 1940s (or before). One of the lines taken from the original military jody is "I know a girl that lives down the hill, she won't do it but her sister will". That's probably the cleanest line in the original.
I go back to this one from time to time 'cause it's cute how naive Lex is with this. "Oh, it's like a snake," followed by her little head shake as she smiles. You 2 are straight out of the '50's on this one 😂. I'm sure you've since picked up on the ZZ Top style. Great tunes!
Funk is another sub-genre of Rock. The Brothers Johnson song, "Get the Funk Out of My Face" is a great example of using the word in a musical context! ♥︎◇♥︎
"Tube Snake" is an old timers euphemism for a man's part. It means dancing under the sheets. LOL! Now you have to listen to Pearl Necklace. Yes, it means that! LOL!
"She won't do it but her sister will..." -- that rock-n-roll sentiment dates back at least to Elvis Presley's 1961 hit "Little Sister", but could date back to the beginning of history... [grin]
One thing to remember, back in the 70s and 80s, music was not a direct and explicit as it is today. ZZ Top and AC/DC (specifically Bon Scott era) were the masters of the double entendre. Bon Scott wrote the dirtiest songs with the cleanest lyrics. On their face, they are g-rated, but by intent, a straight up X. LOL
ZZ Top is always worth a listen, next try a deep cut that shows Billy Gibbons killing it on their first album with Just Got Back from Baby's. They were great right out of the chute, no wonder Jimi Hendrix was talking up Billy's guitar work. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎶
Tube snake is slang used by surfers. When you re-position yourself on the board, you don't take your feet off the board, you kinda slide them. It translates to the dance floor. It was popular in Texas. Rumor has it the writer of the song supposedly was watching surfers and heard them talking about the Tube Snake Boogie. Naturally, most people think of it as sexual. It's up to the beholder to interpret.
Such a cool song. You can't go wrong with ZZ Top. Don't know if y'all done Fool For Your Stockings, or It's Only Love yet, but they'd be good ones to check out.
Brad is quick to jump first to the inappropriate, sexual, graphic, literal suggestions in every song... except the one time it's appropriate, LOL!
HAHAAHA I was thinking the same thing.
Lol.. Right..!? I was thinking the same thing...!!😂
Brad on top of this one, ha ha ha
Wait until he reacts to Pearl Necklace... 😆
I'm dying lol
I'm so disappointed that they didn't pick up on the real meaning of this song. They were right there, almost had it, then let it slip away. When Lex said something about squirming a lot I was dying 🤣 Now I'm not sure if they'll get Pearl Necklace.

😸😸
That's axactly what I was thinking!
They're too young to know what a Pearl Necklace is. lol
haha
Brad & Lex did the Tube Snake Boogie. Now, they are having a baby.
Ha ha ha ha, yep!
Yeah, that's what usually happens.
can't have a baby from the tube snake boogie lol.
Absolutely Amber!
🤣 well put! Love it!
They are talking about dancing in the sheets. Tube snake is a phrase for the male anatomy.
Kind of like your username 😁😂😂
Bingo
Yup! The tube snake boogie. LOL
How about pearl necklace? Those dirty boys.
Tush
Heck yeah 😂 tube snake boogie all night 👏
they are so innocent I bet if they heard Pearl Necklace they would actually think they are singing about a Pearl Necklace lol
Machead.....They know.
Haha 😂
Now that you did Tube Snake Boogie, it's only natural that Pearl Necklace comes next. Pun intended.🍆🐍👯
LOL
Was thinking the same thing!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Do u think they will get that one? I say no.
Lol

R.I.P. Dusty Hill
I was there!
My first concert an many more were at tacoma dome. Judas priest 86
@@bretttodd6470 First concert was Priest too in 84 and again in 86 at the T-dome. Was at the infamous AC/DC concert when the roof caught fire.
I saw the Dead there with Santana in 1988.
The dance they’re doing isn’t the twist. It’s the horizontal bop.
When I was 13, my sister was 16. She used to go to the "bop" every weekend. Parents: There's another dance?
Bob Seger does a song called Horizontal Bop.
That would be incorrect. The Horizontal Bop is sex in "The Missionary Position". The Tube Steak Boogie is a woman going down on a man ... that's MY definition !!! Funky is also an "attitude"..
Just tell them to pick up anything by Tower of Power or Parliment Funkadelic and be done with it.🤘
I can't help thinking the funky music inducing the stank-face might be the origin of the modern day usage of funky = stinky lol
@@sveinstmobekken2175 Possible, very possible.
@@MrRezRising A Parliament Funkadelic reference certainly reinforced why I hang out on this channel with all you fine people.
In his bedroom that's what the song is about. Dude your innocence is epic. LOL.
Brad & Lex,you will love their "Got Me Under Pressure"!!
The Tube Snake Boogie is when she's riding the Bologna Pony.
It's official...
Brad's now got me slapping my forehead and shaking my head as much as Lex now..!😂😂😂
Welcome to the club
Oh Lordy, the innocence of little children, bless their little hearts....................
Tube Snake = NOT a reptile.
Tube Snake Boogie = A 2-person "dance" you can NOT do in public.

It's adorbs.
The Horizontal Bop!
You can do it in public. You just have to make sure you don't get caught. LOL

It is another Innuendo..."Tube snake". They were great with them.

and "all night long" in any rock song is the same. In pop songs it might just mean dancing, but rock songs are their own thing.

Oldschool gotta love it
Brad will be completely baffled by "Pearl Necklace".
Not to mention the band Pearl Jam
ZZ Top is so good. RIP Dusty.
Brad: "She stinks!" 😂 Anyway, my favorite song of theirs. Certainly the most fun!
The sister will LITERALLY "dance" in her place. OMG - I'm 🤣🤣🤣🤣 right now!!!!
I love these guys! ZZ Top is in the top 5 best bands of the 20th Century.

Ted Nugent did a similar thing with his song Wango Tango.
I prefer Wang Dang sweet poontang myself.

How did you 2 miss this one so badly LMAO
ZZ Top music is full of innuendos...do the tube snake boogie and...blow your top...
"she won't do it, but her sister will" 🤣

Tube Snake Boogie, and another song by them titled Pearl Necklace, may have meanings which refer to something other than the literal.
In my neighborhood it was called a tube steak (like cube steak).
The tube snake boogie. The horizontal mambo!!
"Planet of Women" or "Velcro Fly"
For the longest time I thought it was Tube Steak, lol. Basically the same thing. You should do Pearl Necklace next 😀
LOL Naw...Tube steak is hot dogs.
You gotta do Pearl Necklace next😆😅😂🤣
