      I sold my Ableton Suite 10 after many years of use. I purchased Fruity Loops because I needed something different and fresh. I just couldn't get the hang of it. I dusted off my renoise license from 2017 and finally started getting productive. It takes some time, but the creative possibilities are endless. I'm also a programmer so I prefer to be "mouseless". Renoise 2022 crew bois!

    i remember the first FL version. that dates me to when i was 18. i used it until around version 5. then i had to move on because it hadn't bothered catching up with its sound engine so igot into Reason and Ableton. Then took a break from production and found Bitwig and Renoise. 24 years later it's bitwhg and renoise. thanks for the video. (you should have seen what FL1 was like lmao)

    tried learning renoise a few times, like really digging in to learn all the things, but since i'm more experienced with side scroller daws, i usually go back to them because they're easier. but there's something about renoise that i like and whenever i re-visit, i realize i forgot everything and need to re-learn from complete scratch. i'm interested again which is why i'm at this video which is pretty great, but i was looking for a video on "how to draw a note" in renoise hehe.

    • @kalibration
      @kalibration  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      unfortunately only on samples I'm pretty sure, you have to make an Instrument MIDI Control effect and then enable+automate the pitchbend for VSTs (or set the glide/portamento settings in the VST, or automate what youre trying to do inside the VST, or a million other things...)

    • @XyNoST
      @XyNoST 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surely but not with the traditional 0UXX and 0DXX. If you can MIDI control your VST, just check what is the #CC of what you want to control and check for the command for editing MIDI CC (cant help you on this one, it is really rare I use midi instruments and VSTs so I don't remember this command)

I downloaded your sample pack (thanks!), made sure Renoise was displaying exacly the same as yours (same settings etc.). used the same sample, and randomly keyed in Amen slices in the pattenn editor. As usual it just sounded like a stuttering mess. So I made sure I copied your pattern exactly as in this video. Again on playback it was disjointed and stuttering. What am I missing? I've seen a bunch of Renoise videos where people effortlessly put together random Amen patterns that sound excellent, but I just don't know what I am missing here. Thanks!

    • @kalibration
      @kalibration  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you might be having an issue with your audio buffer being too small, under edit->preferences->audio you should see an option for "latency" or "buffer size", try increasing that and hopefully it should be resolved once it's high enough. if that doesn't do the trick, upload a .xrns project file where it's doing that somewhere and send it to me so I can take a look and see what's going on

    • @SirBoycie
      @SirBoycie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kalibration Hey man. Thanks for the advice. I took another look at this. It was not a latency issue. It was my timing of the triggers that sucked lol. • @kalibration

      To recreate the kind of bass sample i was using from scratch, you can either take a sample of an 808 kick with a long tail, or make your own out of a sine wave using volume+pitch modulation, then put some distortion (set to Shape mode, the sweet spot for Amount is 25-40% imo) and maybe an Exciter on it (the Extreme preset works fine)

    • @dutchdykefinger
      @dutchdykefinger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      in renoise tool browser is also a tool called "custom wave generator/synth", which is pretty nice
      it lets you make sine/saw/tangents/squares from the right click in the sample editor menu
      just choose C-0 on the 2nd row (so the 1st one goes to C-0 and it makes but 1 sample), put cycles on 1.
      now you have a single sample with a single pulse at C-0, just like them old chiptunes, and since it's C-0, it wil always upsample, turn on forward looping on the sample, and bob's your uncle, it will already be mapped on the keyboard properly.
      don't forget to put the instrument volume to like -6db or -9 if you don't wanna die, finally add a lowpass filter on the track (or instrument fx) to to take off the dirty edges
      now you can chase a kickdrum with a tonal wave, and control the attack curve adn decay times with the ADSR envelope in the instrument modulation, you can map those to instrument automation too if you want to put an lfo or automation on it orso later, to add some variations to the envelope lengths and spice things up a bit
      for extra razzmatazz you can put a signal follower on the kick and have it trigger a gainer on the track for the bass "synth", only opening up as long as the kick is there
      sometimes i use a track on the left that has signal followers and trackers and hydras to control the rest, post mixer all the way down on the track itself, so the input still gets processed, which turns it into a dedicated "transport" channel with sophisticated control over triggering all the key tracking and signal following goodness you need (formula device is the bomb too, for inverting logic and stuff)
