So futuristic yet so nostalgic
But old
It's old
@@dasein5170 yeah no shit
Kind of reminds me of someone walking up to a spacecraft's entry point and opening the door.
When I hear the startup, I picture a spaceship leaving earth, and when I hear the shutdown, I hear said spaceship going back to earth.
Wait until you hear NT 5.0
@@vedantganesh4954 which build? Because there was multiple builds that used different sounds.
@@TheRobSka Beta 1 or 2. Either has the startup sound i believe, but there was no "NT 5.0 Workstation" as it was renamed Windows 2000.
the splash screen is literally above the clouds so it signifies that it's outerspace
Lol true
I'm still amazed on how they made these startup and shutdown sounds.
Literally
The recipe for the other sound: putting it in reverse 👏
The shutdown sounds is actually the start up sound in reverse
I think it's MIDI art
Wow 11 years ago
"Hey guys, we worked our ass off on the startup sound, but we still gotta create shutdown sound!"
"I've got a plan, just reverse the startup sound."
"Genius."
@@itsfastman1782 it actually isn't. There is video evidence that proves its real.
@@itsfastman1782 what is?
@Gizmo Know-How late reply, but the dude came in, claimed the shutdown sound was fake, and then after I confronted him, he deleted his comment

Imagine Windows 7's "Starting Windows" boot screen animation with this startup sound.
yes you can change the the system sound xd or MOD win 7
+Fishappy0 -JackFish Yeah but the poster was talking about the 'Starting Windows' bootscreen before anything else happens. Unfortunately a sound cannot be played at that screen
That atRup sound played during the windows 98 installation
Or Windows 11
The doesn't feel right to me, when I picture this sound I automatically think of Windows 95 and the 90's in general.
It`s scary

this startup is epic af
WindowsNT 4.0 made a revolution in computer OS.
@@SanathaniBrahmin in server os, in pc os the 95 one made (with start button)
The most relaxing startup and shutdown sound in the entire universe! It’ll beat every other startup sound meant to be relaxing. And every startup sound in all devices in general and the future ones will be beaten too. By Windows NT Workstation 4.0’s awesome and relaxing Startup Sound.
Is this satire?
Windows Vista Home Premium you should be rooting for your own OS
Maybe apart from the 8 bits of headroom in the audio file. To me, the Windows 9x (95, 98) would take that spot.

out of all of the windows start up this one sounds way ahead of its time.. it feels like you're stepping into the future

Windows NT startup reserved!
Reversed
Is shutdown
Shutdown sound is startup sound in reverse.
0:00 why does this make me reflect off of my childhood?
Also why does this sound nostalgic even though I never used it?
Makes me want to use nt 4.0.
you can install it on a VM
Tsz Fung Li yeah but there’s one problem... where do I get it for my super duper old Windows Vista machine?
Tsz Fung Li 😆 you can still get Windows NT Workstation 4.0 if you want it.
Tsz Fung Li do you have to get a disk for it first? Cuz if so, it’s probably better off just straight up putting it on a vintage computer. The ones that are big boxes.
Hi
One of my absolute favorites.
Shutdown is the reversed aound of startup sound
reversed, it sounds like it's saying goodbye
Yes, the startup and shutdown are the same, but the question is: which one was composed first?
Most likely the startup one.
Judging by the faint static & corruption sounds, most likely the startup one.
this is an incredible, serious sound effect thats like "this is not a normal version of windows for the regular people.......this is some kind of step up, this is the Cool club"
I miss the days of being 8years old in the 2000s listening to old 90s computers sounds and playing old 90s/2000s pc games 😢
Wish they still made these ):
Had this on the second or third family computer - but with the beefiest speakers. Loved hearing this every time.
Why does the shut down sound like a UFO Landing? XD
This might be one of the scariest startup and shutdown sounds
Windows NT 4.0 Backwards:
Startup-Shutdown
Shutdown-Startup
Fuck logic XD
just dont swear only idiots do that
yeah
These sounds are so relaxing!
Brings Back Such Such Good Memories...
Windows NT shutdown and startup are the reverse of eachother
The end of the startup sound, part of it is in Portal 1's soundtrack, a song titled Subject Name Here.
Listening to this takes me back to the late 1980's & the early 1990's. Those were the days.
Windows NT 4.0 did not exist in the 80's. -_-
NT 4.0 was released in 1996, dude...
Currently installing it from an old disk to my thinkpad! :D
I also still have the apple lisa. They're both awesome. Although I was never able to experience the times when this was awesome technology since I'm just 12...
Amazing! Glad you're such a technology freak like me, I'm 13 and have a hackintosh, a dual boot laptop, countless VM's and stuff.
I am 11 years old... just turning 12 this December.... honestly I wished I could have experienced these machines.... I really wanted to see how windows looked like back then.... using a vm is awesome, but using a real machine is even more better and much more nostalgic!

Shutdown: realizing all classroom works and go back sleep

The startup sound: Good
The shutdown sound: startup sound is reversed

Its supah AMAZING!!!
Fun fact: The shutdown sound is actually the startup sound in reverse!
Sounds like a huge machine is powering down and well that’s kinda true.
When you startup the computers at Walmart in 2020.
I remixed these 2 sounds 2 years ago as a theme to an indie book I wrote named "one world, the future" and it came out so fantastic. I will upload it this year on TH-cam. But hey, Microsoft did a great job here. The best sound ever.
This is the coolest startup sound imo

The perfect sound
Startup: This is cool.
Shutdown 1 (tada): WHAT THE F--
Shutdown 2 (proper): This is also cool.
It's like the future that never was.
Like cyberpunk and/or synthwave.
the shutdown is just so badass its like the Windows NT is saying "Another sucessful day! The gaint now needs his rest!"
When I used to work in 1st Line IT at Marshall Cavendish UK from 1999 to 2005, we used to use Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Workstation on some of our PCs. Fortunately, my Hewlett-Packard PC was set up to play sound with a nice sound card and I used to love hearing these sounds every time I logged in and out of Windows NT 4.0 Server! These were login and logout sounds, not startup and shutdown sounds, as far as I remember.
Having played these sounds for so long (I downloaded them for my home PCs too) and as a mega electronic music fan, I am convinced that the logout sound is exactly the same as the login sound, just with the samples reversed. Does anyone else want to confirm this for me?
Alastair C Parker (a mega electronic music fan since the 1970s and PC user since 1988!).
Yep, you’re right. The shutdown or logout or whatever is the same as the login just backwards.
Who else remembers abandoned companies when they hear the shutdown sound?
I just realized that the Windows NT shutdown sound is actually its startup but backwards.
I grew up using windows xp
We had NT at our school back in the day on Gateway computers with the classic 'cow print'. God I miss it.
The sound will be heard when you enter from the heaven into space.
Best Windows startup sound EVER
did you know?
The windows 4.0 shutdown looks like the reversed version of windows 4.0 startup
(Olny for people who dont know)
If I can remember correctly, this sound also played if you inserted a Windows 2000 or ME installation CD into your computer.
i like this classical startup sounds
Oh God, we had NT on our school computers. Every morning, that same sound.
0:01 I like the synthetic feel of the Microsoft Windows NT Workstation with Microsoft internet explorer
We had this windows version installed on our summer camp computer room, we had some windows 98 aswell
Microsoft coded this in 8-bit PCM with 22 kHz.
back then sound cards were limited. You were king if you had a soundcard capable of 44100hz 16-bit stereo PCM
@@miaugato93 and that was a hell of a challenge to get.

I like the way Windows 4.0 was supposed to be future-like, but ended up being a copy of Windows 95.
Well the only thing it copied was the interface, other than that it was a totally different system under the hood
I've never heard of Windows 4.0. Was it a weird prototype or something? Oh wait, you mean Windows NT 4.0

Did you know: the windows NT 4.0 startup sound,if played backward,it will sound identical to the shutdown sound.
No
I don’t have a computer yet but soon if I get one, I will install Windows NT 4.0 just to hear the start up and shut down.
shutdown sounds like startup, but backwards O_o
This Shutdown and startup kinda reminds me of how I first played the Wii 9 years ago back in September 1st 2014.
