- Christmas came early to parts of Southern Appalachia as Santa Claus himself once again rode the rails of the Clinchfield aboard the CSX Santa Train. Every year, the train departs CSX's Shelbiana, Kentucky yard before sunrise on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Aboard are 15 tons of gifts which will be distributed to the good children of each small mountain town the train passes through as it travels across the Southwest corner of Virginia to Kingsport, Tennessee. This tradition was begun by the Clinchfield Railroad in 1943 and is continued today by their successor CSX Transportation.
Great Video! It's an honor to see this tradition continued and be on the back with Santa (Don) and Frank spreading joy to the families.
Awesome video. I just cant get over how empty Trammel looks now without a passing siding.
Thanks! They tore it up very recently, the grooves for the ties were still in the ballast.
@@SmokyMtnSteamI think I saw you during the double header chase in Summerville do you have any advice for a railroad TH-camr like me I have 362 subscribers
It's a shame they couldn't have washed the GEVOs, but i know it was an emergency substitution
Literally an overnight substitution. The important thing is that the train ran.
@@SmokyMtnSteam completely agree
I love the Santa Train! I wish I was on it!
A shame the F40’s broke down :(
Yes it was a real shame. Its a good thing the GEVOs were there to save the day.
Love it Thanks would C&O 2736 carry the santa train.
I like it how they have an observation car just for the Santa train. I approve of it.
I believe it came from the Pan-Am OCS
@@SmokyMtnSteam it did.
Diesels don't say merry Christmas like steam engines do. A Happy New Year to all who are on Santa's good list.
