This is a dream for blackmagic users
Compact way to get AF for Blackmagic 😎🤝
Any cinema camera. As much as I love the image quality over my Komodo, I regret not getting the Fs6 or even 3. The amount of shot I have to buy to get it to work as a solo cinema rig is ridiculous
Hopefully this one was the one I was missing
I bought the rs3 for the potential of the lidar, after having a few nightmare shoots and having to switch to manual hand held, I honestly only bring it out for special occasions.
I needed something like this, and really don’t want to have to pay for that crazy DJI transmission bundle.
@@castielvargastv7931 💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love technology. I've been waiting on this for 10 years. Finally, autofocus for any cinema camera.
It’s definitely a game changer!
Somebody finally did a real life test instead of just saying how great this system is and that they got paid from DJI. Kudos!
Great video!! Thank you for putting in the time and effort. This fellow shooter appreciates you!
Glad to be of help!!
Whole vid is incredible, man!
Thanks man!
David! This looks amazing. You know I love LiDAR! I’m so glad you did a detailed video. Gave me some good ideas! 🙏🤜
Thanks Se! And, I would love to see what you do with it.
Great stuff. They don't really need to pay for ads here :D
Thanks for the info, I just ordered the RS 4 Pro Combo and Im using my Sony A7r 4. I retired from the military 2 yrs ago and started a small business taking pictures and videos for real estate and social media. Theres a lot to learn from all this technology! Great video!
Congrats on retirement and starting a business! The RS4 Pro will be great for your real estate work!
This could be just what I need for my GH6 as its focus is my only issue with it
great video brotha.
Thanks bro!
3:28 Wow, absolutely love that look.
Anamorphic footage is always top tier!
Thanks for the video David! The Lidar looks like it works really well and the entire system looks like it's easy and intuitive to use, similar user interface to the DJI gimbals.
Glad it was helpful! 😁🤝
Great video David. I'm still not on board with Lidar though. I've got a project coming up that would be interesting to see how this performs...
The LiDAR AF/MF is next level! I need to try out the focus grip
Right?? I love the implementation of it, letting you take the best of both worlds and marry them together!
Can we just get the grip, focus motor and sensor without the focus pulling external unit
Yup! That's gonna be the creator combo (without the hand unit), which is much cheaper! Link in the description :)
Nice the I do not need a gimbal anymore to use DJI Lidar. Maybe I would get one (someday).
Great video bro!
Can i use the old version of LiDAR(RS) for the focus pro handle?
I don't think so unfortunately, but that’s also not confirmed cause I don’t have the old version to test with
How do you power the focus pro from the v-mount battery? Is it just by connecting the v-mount battery to the usb-c of the grip battery?
Correct, so if you’re running your rig off a v-mount you can power the grip with it as well!
Actually, with the High Bright monitor, when you add the SDI-out module, does it transmit the LIDAR overlay to any monitor? I know there's still a big issue of signal delay (DJI Transmission is not 0-delay unlike Teradeks or Vaxis), but having LIDAR overlay on any monitor would be awesome!
I can't wait to get my hands on this! You just sold me... I was thinking of another system but now I want DJI's version. I have the RS3 and I'm wondering is there is a way to buy the LiDAR system and hook it up to my RS3.
Based on the product description on the site, it’s compatible with the RS3!
@@DavidZhou good to know, my rs3 pro was quite an expensive purchase and i decided not to pull a trigger on a lidar system back then , thanks for the hint
Hey man, great review. I recently purchased the Lidar so now I'm gutted they have just updated it. Do you have experience with the original Lidar and if so how would you compare it? Cheers
Hey! Unfortunately I don’t have the original LiDAR system, but from what I’ve seen the biggest difference would be the range (20m vs something like 14-16m on the original). Another benefit of the new system is using the grip as your “hub”, and having a more compact setup. Outside of that if you have either the hub or are using it with the gimbal, you still have the AI subject recognition/active track. I hope that helps a little!
Would be sick if a third-party makes an adjustable lens mount (like a C-shaped cup holder) for the lidar unit so you don’t have to mount it on the hot shoe and can use a top handle!
I’m sure a third-party will make solutions like that soon-I feel like the DJI Focus Pro is going to be really widely adopted now that you can use it without a gimbal!
Hi! Congrats for your video! A question, how the system works with long lenses with more than 1 meter of minimum focus distance? I work with 85mm with 1.3 meters of minimum focusing... and the two distance fir calibration is 4 and 1 meter...
Thanks for the great info. Could you please confirm if the focus pro grip works with rhe earlier lidar rangefinder? Thanks again. :)
They market the grip to work with the RS3, so my **assumption** is yes, it should but I'm not 100% sure since I don't own the earlier LiDAR rangefinder to test
@@DavidZhou Thanks for that! Love from India ❤️
Any time 🙌🏼
i would good to see an unboxing of the DJI Focus Pro Creator Combo just for scale is a backpack filler or can i get my camera and lens in.?????? everyone is doing and saying the same thing
Would it be possible to use DJI Focus Pro on an RS 3 mini? The Grip connected on the gimbal side, considering that (camera, lens, LiDAR and focus motor) were within the 2kg load of the RS 3 mini.
The grip is marketed to work with the RS3, so I assume that it should, but I'm not 100% sure!
Would you recommend this unit over the pd movie? Would you say this unit can be really trust for autofocus for a short film?
How loud are the motors? If I shoot a doc with an ibises microphone would it be okey as look as I don’t go crazy rack focus ?
If you only need 4M range (talking head stuff, not too far from the camera, on a focal length between 24-50ish), I think the PDMovie is a more compact solution (and cheaper). But, if you want a ROBUST system, this is unbeatable.
I would say you COULD trust it, though I'd still be ready to take over manual control of the AF in situations like a second subject/object crossing the frame and covering the main subject. This system is definitely good enough to support what you want, but you just have to make sure you learn the system so it doesn't throw any curveballs at you!
Great video. When are these shipping? Did DJI tell you guys?
Thanks! They didn't, but I think they'll be shipping pretty soon
I have the past lidar and rs3 Pro but I need the handle will it work on my past setup
I know it should work with the RS3 but I’m not positive it’s compatible with the OG LiDAR camera/motors
Same - I'll be doing a test once I get the grip!
hello ! I have a 24-70 sigma lens. But I can't configure it for autofocus. Is it because of the type of lemte? Would it have to be, for example, a 35mm lens and not a 24-70?
How do you mount the grip to the camera rig? Also i was wondering if this systems with the rs3 pro
Via a Nato Rail on the side of my camera cage! I’m not 100% sure on whether or not it’s compatible with the RS3 Pro
On the focus demonstration clips , did you edit them or just out of camera , looks cinematic tho ..
I color graded the footage, if thats what you’re asking!
I have been waiting for this day for years! Finally they stepped up. Do you think it would work with vintage lenses like Canon FD 50mm 1.8, i use it with an adapter for my A7S III, but not sure if it would work or not? Great video David!
Yes! They come with rubber gear belts that you can attach to lenses without gears. The setup process would be the same and this is exactly why I’m so into these systems-like being able to turn a Helios 422 lens into an AF lens is awesome
@@DavidZhou That is great, so glad this is now a possibility. How would you say it is compared to Sonys Auto Focus internally for normal shots? Do you trust this system , so you can even walk away form the camera and know the shot is in focus if you are filming a talking-head for an interview?
The price is a lot, for me, but the Creator-package seems like a better fit as it is nearly half the price. And you can not put a price on getting Auto Focus on manual lenses! I have looked at some other LiDar systems, but they did not seem to work that good, but I trust DJI a lot more as they know their stuff :-)
Can you control 2 motors with that handle ? ( zoom + focus ) or can you use that handle to control the zoom with one motor while the lidar controls the focus with the second motors ?
My approach has been letting the LiDAR handle AF if I need to handle zoom while operating 😁
If the motor needs to be wired to the handgrip, do you think that cable would get in the way or throw off the balance when using on a gimbal?
Nope, the cable tucks away pretty well if you try! It shouldn't be an issue, but if you're planning on using this on a gimbal, I'd suggest using the DJI RS4 gimbal to have it be controlled by the gimbal instead of the handgrip.
@@DavidZhou ah ok, so the lidar unit and motor are compatible with some of the newer DJI gimbals natively!
The cabling is a little crazy
What is the minimum distance for focus. Meaning how close can I get to the subject with the lidar autofocus
Hey, cool review! Can I ask what’s the laowa anamorphic zoom 50-100 1.9? I don’t find it online. Thanks!
I have a video about it on my channel (4 videos ago), check it out! It’s an Anamorphic Cine Zoom lens and it produces some incredible footage!
Cool, checking right now. Thanks for the fast reply!
T2.9 I just got one myself
@@seanfrancis7101 how do you like it??
dose it record the lidar distance data?
Gday mate...did u have a discount from dji to purchase the items as part of ur affiliate?
Unfortunately not, sorry!
Which is easier to use the of pd movie live air smart or dji focus pro?
They’re both easy to use. The PDMovie Live Air 3 Smart is a little bit easier to set up since it’s a smaller package but is “harder” to work with due to its 4m range limit, so it just depends on what your shooting needs are!
So if I own an RS3 Pro, do I just need to purchase the lidar and focus motor?
Based on what the BHPhoto website says, it’s “compatible with the DJI RS3 Pro”-I would think that means you could hook it up to the gimbal without the grip, but I’m not 100% positive
Does this work with the Nano 2?
1k$? Come one man!
Nope this DJI Focus Pro just about fixes all my gripes with Lidar Autofocus, I'm now ready to take the plunge. Tried out the precious attempts and was always something lacking. This one seems to have addeessed all the shortcomings and now will live on any camera rig I own
Can u use it with my dji ronin rs2?
Unfortunately, I don’t think so
Do you need to calibrate zoom lens on every focal length if it is parfocal?
If it's parfocal, then nope! Just at one focal length!
@@DavidZhou Thx. That's a great news. Guess who's gonna spend $1099 soon :D
Absolutely killed it my guy!
Thanks Kofi! 🤝
Just curious, what lens were you using outdoors?
For the majority of the video I was shooting with the NiSi Athena Primes, the 25mm T1.9 and 50mm T1.9. The only other lens I used was the Laowa Nanomorph Zoom 55-100 T2.9!
Sure this may work for single-op one-person setup, but as a focus puller, the weak point to this is that in order to get the birds-eye LIDAR overlay, you have to go thru the high-bright monitor which DOES NOT have SDI output (I'd want to output video to my SmallHD 1303) and it has latency. You have to spend another $500 to get the SDI/HDMI output module and from reviews the quality of that add-on has been horrible.
Bro you have a dead pixel on the top third, left side of your camera sensor. Put your playhead at about 2 minutes and look directly up. This looks like it's only on the desk shot where you're facing the camera.
Yeah… I saw that as I was reviewing the export-I’m not sure what exactly it is though because it’s only in that shot 🤔
@@DavidZhou It's likely just your sensor on that camera needing to be remapped, refreshed.
Is it compatible with 18-35mm sigma lenses?
If you have the cine versions (geared), then it’s plug and play. If not, you’d just need to use the provided rubber gear ring(s). Though I don’t recall if the Sigma 18-35 is parfocal, if not, then you’d need to create a lens profile for each of the focal lengths in the zoom that you’d plan to use.

Can anyone confirm the information that the new DJI Focus Pro can work with Panasonic S5ii and S5iiX natively, without the presence of the motor on the focus ring and just needs the LiDAR unit and the new DJI handle?

Release date end of the year 😮😅
Wait what? Where do you see that 😮
You seem almost SOOO believable. Or Hmmm.. NO. Hope paid you well for your soul. Sad indeed.
You are "reviewing" this product, yet you say "I have never actually been on a production". Well... Ok. Maybe that should have been your first step as a reviewer of a production assistant product. CHRIST
I work solo video productions and work with clients-I still utilize MF/cine lenses for projects as well as for the TH-cam channel. I just don’t work on teams/crews. This product still has use cases outside of big productions and that’s what I’m focusing most of my time here on. Which is also why I disclosed that for wireless focus pulling, it’s not something that I personally have experience with but based on limited testing I wanted to give my general thoughts as to not skip over an entire use case of the new system. 😅
@@DavidZhou Your review looses all credibility since you are telling people how great it is, not criticism, but turns out you never been on a real production. Same as I review a restaurant product without even having worked in a restaurant. I get it, I cook food, we all do. That doesn't make us chefs with restaurant know-how.
Just start by saying that this is a commercial, please.
I would love to see how this new lidar does on film sets with haze. The previous one would stop working and mess up once we introduced haze to the set and became unusable
I don’t have a hazer anymore or I’d test this 😭 but if I had to guess I’d honestly say it would probably be the same outcome (with maybe slightly better reliability compared to the previous LiDAR since the newer one has longer range, suggesting stronger lasers).
Your Instagram link isn’t working
Which one? Where? 😮
