@@Pyroific That sucks, Q Dance events ROCKED in Melbourne but then due to a Q-dance event that had 29 blowouts (G overdoese) 29 ambulances taken out of there CBD duties from 10pm-6am They said never again in Melbourne and I dont blame them. Melbournes G usage in the 2005-2010 area was discusting.
@andyturbo ahh yeah, I remember those days. Media slammed QDance, defon1, and others. Wasn't a Melbourne thing, Sydney also shared bad ODs

This is particularly true for genres like hardcore that have been subdivided into smaller sub-genres such as hardstyle, raw, frenchcore, and uptempo. While these sub-genres may help fans to differentiate between different styles of music and identify their preferences, they can also create boundaries that can be difficult to cross. Musicians who want to experiment with different sounds and techniques may find it challenging to do so without breaking the established rules of their chosen genre. As a result, the music may become stale and predictable, and fans may become less interested in it over time. Therefore, while genre classification can be useful, it is essential to remain open to new ideas and approaches to ensure that music continues to evolve and grow.
I mean these days all of these genres (except Frenchcore) overlap so much you can't really tell the difference.

Agree! Diabarha has a lot of great songs, Speedcore Representative for the more melodic side i would say Antarctica, for that Splittercore then i could say Crazy Beauties, for Extratone, i could say somewhere between Derranged Souls or Keep in Secret.

The difference between these styles is mostly in the sound. Not so much the BPM's. Offcourse there's a big difference in BPM's between Extratone or Splittercore and Hardcore. But many genres have overlapping BPM speeds. Some Rawstyle can be as hard and fast as Uptempo Hardcore, whilst some Terror can have lower BPM's than regular Hardcore. The DJ/founder of Rotterdam Terror Corps (George Ruseler) always said Terror is about the sound and that some 160 BPM terrortracks can be harder and darker than 240-300 BPM tracks. Also Hardstyle and Hardcore have overlapping BPM's. The early Hardcore wasn't always about a high BPM count, it was often slower than Hardstyle is today. For instance "The Hustle" from Mad-E-Fact...Let a young guy listen to that song today and they would say it's Hardstyle based on its slower rythm and lower BPM count. But that song is actually Hardcore !!! For anyone wondering...I'm a 45 yr old Dutch gabber that's been listening to Hardcore since '93 and been going to Hardcore events since '97. Thunderdome '97 : The Global Hardcore Nation in Sportpaleis Antwerpen was my 1st event. So, I have 30 yrs of experience backing up my opinion. In general Hardstyle is more euphoric than Hardcore, but it doesn't mean Hardcore can't be euphoric. DJ's like Angerfist have a darker sound than what you hear in Hardstyle...so Angerfist is definately Hardcore. But what about Korsakoff ??? She has a lot of euphoric passages in her sets, but if you hear the sets you can definatlely say it's Hardcore too !!! It just hits a little bit different and harder than Hardstyle. I mean, Angerfist is called the "King of Hardcore" and Korsakoff is the "Queen of Hardcore". Two completely different sounds and styles...Angerfist has a pretty dark sound, whilst Korsakoff's tracks and sets are melodic/euphoric and uplifting. But it's both undeniably Hardcore.

and on the other side you have Ophidian that has wayy different taste of his own style. When you hear just a few notes of the track, you clearly can recognize that this track is from Ophidian, and Ophidian is also hardcore. He has dark tracks like the void, running on empty, so many sacrifices, or great forgotten moments and also brighter ones like the butterfly, love is digital.
And i have to admit that for me Ophidian's style is more.... artistic than other hardcore DJ's.
I love all these genres, subgenres and styles from gabber to terrorcore. Speedcore and above is too much for me.
Tldr;might read later, but yeah tempo doesn't make genres anymore nowadays anyways, I always make rawstyle and extra raw at 165 which is higher than what it's usually at, plus weird tempo nobody uses, but I think giving tempo measures is a good starting point for new listeners anyways
Also, I really like using 210 for anything fast, 200 for wtv reason feels sluggish to me, like even 195 feels better than 200, but that's just me I guess

I remember in like '92 when anything over 140 BPM was hardcore or gabber, and hardcore included hard breaks and a lot of the precursors to DnB.
I think the first actual hard subgenre I heard of was Happy Hardcore. Even that got confusing because you had the chipmunk sounding super cheesy stuff coming out of the UK, LA and Canada, then also the Dutch Thunderdome stuff, which was oddly considered "Happy" here in the NYC area.

1:32 I would add, what we call UK hardcore today isn't what UK hardcore was in 90s. UK hardcore in the 90s was breakbeat hardcore, which was referred to simply as "hardcore" by Brits. During the late 90s hardcore split with the lighter happier sounds becoming happy hardcore (breakbeat hardcore) and the more bassy, darker sounds becoming jungle (which went on to evolve into DnB). Current UK hardcore (from 2003 onwards) is a mixture of early UK happy hardcore with hard trance, makina and Dutch happy hardcore
Really breakbeat hardcore was regarded as an English or London hardcore style and not pan UK where it wasn't widely popular in Scotland. Ignores hardcore techno made in England on the like of Jelly Jam, Edge & Semtex. Also early Scottish hardcore, bouncy techno (Shoop / Scott Brown), which has influenced modern UK hardcore (a Scott Brown term for his music. Replaced both Scottish and English hardcores hence UK. Just a fast euphoric trance), mid 90s Dutch happy/funcore (via Elstak's fascination of Shoop and Brown), mid 90s English 4-beat (via Vibes and Hixxy's interest on Brown) and late 90s Spanish makina (again Brown). Also 1:06 makina was not born out of gabber and just a general term for music by "machine" (electronic), covered a variety of different music and was largely a type of hard trance around 95.

I started with jump style when I was 13. 14 years later and Im at Anything after uptempo. It’s not for everyone, but you grow into it :) going to the uptempo raves are so much fun and full of energy!

Ive not had the pleasure of being to a festival yet and really am just getting to know specific DJs. I have a huge playlist but i was looking to narrow down the styles i really enjoyed. This helped me find out I am a HUGE lover of Happy Hardcore and Euphoric Hardstyle! Now I can create the best playlist of my favorite specific styles! Cheers!!!!

I been listening to techno and all the harder styles especially basicly since before birth (my mom loves them too), but i have only heard the names of 2/3s of the genres listed here, but know most of the tracks or similar ones. thanks for teaching me :D

There's a slight overlap here in Frenchcore, industrial, early and terror. Early Micropoint and Raium tracks such as Crackpipe, Junkicide and Noise Theatire by Micropoint and Hard Abuse by The Sickest Squad.
Some of these artists no longer make this style but you can still find this early frenchcore. I recommend artist like The Sickest Squad, Psiko, Cemtex, SpeedyQ's, D.O.M., DJ Mutante and albums like Social Teknology

Thanks for the video man, I grew up with this music, grew up with my grandparents and my uncles would go to all the major parties back in the 90's.
I have such fond memories of that time, I miss it a lot.
To this day the only music I listen to is Hardcore and some of it's spin offs.
Industrial Hardcore is my favorite style and of course Ophidian is my hero, the undisputed number one!
This is much more than just music, its sacred to me! HC4L!

Turns out I'm obsessed with hardcore and everything after that. Extratone needs a certain mood but when I'm in that mood I love it.

Might aswell add this as a cool fact, in the north of England (and above to Scotland) there is a big following of Makina (specifically not UK hardcore) as supposedly a DJ from Newcastle had gone to spain, picked up a couple vinyl copies of some makina and started playing it and people went mental for it, then they got more and more till it was popular enough that a club called the New Monkey was started which was famous for the Makina of the UK aswell as having an MC spit over the beat (creating people like MC Mental, MC Flinchy, MC Genno D,etc) i might have some facts a bit off but its generally around what happened

Sick video! Just as some people indeed are saying its probably more about the sound than the tempo. For me there are some uptempo hardcore tracks that are at normal hardcore or even rawstyle bpm but they are still uptempo, just because of the kick. Even tho i dont like the current harstyle (im more a fan of 2012 to 2017's harstyle), its cool to see all these hard dance genres, because for me at the end of the day its all Harder styles/hard dance and i love it!

I love it all, genuinely haven't been more excited about music in nearly 20 years. Only bad part for me is I had no idea it was a thing back in ~2009. Just glad S3RL is still going strong releasing a banger every 3 weeks somehow lol. Been listening to him non-stop for 4 months and am still finding new songs of his every week.

My love of hardcore will always be UK's Happy Hardcore. It's what I grew up with, very uplifting and a bit crazy all over the place, a mix match of sounds and samples... and friend/family aren't always mad about listening to it. The mix of sounds and samples is why I like Industrial hardcore, it feels to me very much like the very flipside of the UK Happy hardcore scene with samples that are down beat, still a crazy mix though.
My favourite is Frenchcore, the tracks just seem to do it for me most of the time. It's only when I want something a little faster I go for Speedcore.
I do like Terror core, but rather than just being defined by the BPM, again like Industrial Hardcore and Happy Hardcore, it's the samples used, very dark vocals used in the tracks... maybe it's just the music I listen to.

man extratone gave me a jumpscare
tbh i would listen to a majority of these, my first genre of the hardcore world was speedcore, specifically M1DY and Kobaryo. then i hopped over to GPF and UOK, so my hardcore introduction started with GPF and UOK, you could only IMAGINE what i would willingly blast into my ears now. and holy blessing of GPF, the piep kick made Uptempo 300x better, but i will always love any and all Uptempo, with or without piep.
Xtra raw, hardstyle, rawphoric and hardcore is all i need😅
