I love it when you talk about the rare stuff. I live in California. It's highly competitive, and things are expensive! I've been thrift shopping and raised by my parents around antiques and vintage jewelry, etc. I would say I am a collector but don't want to be ripped off! That's a lot to ask in california! Just need to know what's next! What to find is a value but still collectible. What to find is the next big thing.... idk.. I know it's hard to say, but what's the next trend...???

Because you asked (and i live in a town nearby you): i worked at a drugstore in a mall in the late 90's. Sometimes, teens would come in to buy cigarettes. (Checking i.d's was just starting-ish.) One day, a young man paid with old silver dollars. I told him that they were valuable and to take them to a bank to exchange for big $. He just looked at me as if i were an alien. Luckily, I was allowed to cash them out and kept the 6 coins. Months later, we heard rumors that a kid was "borrowing" grandpa's coins and spending them at the mall. Ummm. I think that still happens (kids buying snacks!) as most adults would know the value. One would hope, anyway. Lol.

As a historian all things vintage you are so valuable to historical community. I have always loved hard back books for researching historical things as well as jewelry. I love it when you talk about the rare stuff. I live in California. It's highly competitive, and things are expensive! I've been thrift shopping and raised by my parents around antiques and vintage jewelry, etc. I would say I am a collector but don't want to be ripped off! That's a lot to ask in california! Just need to know what's next! What to find is a value but still collectible. What to find is the next big thing.... idk.. I know it's hard to say, but what's the next trend...???

Because you asked (and i live in a town nearby you): i worked at a drugstore in a mall in the late 90's. Sometimes, teens would come in to buy cigarettes. (Checking i.d's was just starting-ish.) One day, a young man paid with old silver dollars. I told him that they were valuable and to take them to a bank to exchange for big $. He just looked at me as if i were an alien. Luckily, I was allowed to cash them out and kept the 6 coins. Months later, we heard rumors that a kid was "borrowing" grandpa's coins and spending them at the mall. Ummm. I think that still happens (kids buying snacks!) as most adults would know the value. One would hope, anyway. Lol.
