      @learningcameras if you really look back to the 100D this is much better than that. If someone just want a basic camera it is fine, providing you don't want to do video.
      Problem is modern cameras are really spoilt for features. I remember using an old Zenit, not even Through the lens light metering, everything manual.

    It's absolutely the screen that convinced me to go up to the R50. While the R100 is cheap by camera standards, it's still quite expensive by normal ones and it makes no sense to me to accept such a massive compromise for such a large purchase. The non-touch screen is bad enough in 2024, but the lack of an articulating screen is a total dealbreaker for me as someone who relies on the screen more than the viewfinder and enjoys finding weird angles to take photos from.

    I've had an EOS R100 for a while now - got it because of best bang for buck. Use it for photo only, so poor 4k video do not bother me. Half the time I shoot with manual (prime) lenses, so don't need top of the line AF modes. Don't do sports or wildlife photo, so slow burst modes don't bother me either. That said - when it is time to upgrade, I will get a camera with at least two control-dials (I'd really like a dedicated Exp. Comp. dial) and articulated screen. Those are the only two things with the R100 I find lacking for my use. Ergonomics complaints rather than photo quality complaints.

    A big nope. Go for Canon R50 as the bare minimum if you want a n entry level camera with EVF, or even a depreciated Nikon Z50 now that the mark ii is out, or buy used. It is better to save up longer for something that doesn't hold you back too much, because usability frustrations can demotivate you from actually going out there and shoot something.
    For those who can afford more expensive stuff but chose to start too cheap, you get stuck in that endless upgrade cycle, having to sell existing gear for better ones where you end up spending more as your existing gear depreciates the moment you open the seal. Or maybe just go for a 0% interest credit card instalment plan if it is an option, where you split into 3 to 6 month payments (very common practice in my country at least).

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I tend to agree. The R50 is worth the step up if you can afford it. But the R100 is under $500 with a lens and I get quite a people asking for the best camera under that price. But there is a risk buying something too cheap because you won't end up using it and it won't last as long. The R100 cuts quite a few corners even for photographers and the limited autofocus and lack of a touch screen are tough to reconcile

    • @michaelbell75
      @michaelbell75 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You spend your money on lenses, not camera bodies. A cheap camera with a great lens will give you MUCH better photos than a more expensive camera with a cheap lens. The R100 is a steal for $299 when you put a quality lens on it. I just shot a layout for a fashion magazine with the R100 and RF 50 1.2 Did it to prove a point for an upcoming TH-cam video 😃

      @@michaelbell75 All the more reason to me to not cheap out quite THIS much on a body. You want to get something that will last you a while so the rest goes to glass, not something that feels similar to products released a decade ago ergonomically and that you find annoying inside a year.

      @@QueenInCommand great, is this really usefus for the purpose of learning photography ? You don't want to keep an entry level camera for professional usage, dual pixel and eye tracking is cool but look at the price of rf lenses, you can now buy cheap ef lenses and an adapter for less than 100 bucks when you will want to go for something more recent. Old professional gear is cheaper than ever and if you want something easier and lighter go for it but for learning there's nothing better in my opinion
