@mixrousefamily687 The interiors of the original house must have looked very dated when she purchased it. The rooms somewhat gloomy and lacking in any grand spaces for large-scale entertaining.
@ThisHouse - I loved the entire building - both inside _and_ outside! Interior wise I loved the grand staircase but also the room with the Tiffany murals. I'm so happy this gorgeous building still stands!
I just love that it is still standing. I’m sure on approach to the estate when first casting your eyes upon the house, the hair on your arms will rise. I hope to one day see this one with my own two eyes.
I'm surprised that there aren't more of your audience bemoaning the destruction of the original house. The new one is lavish without being grandiose. The beautiful entry is welcoming, not designed to leave the guests awestruck. Of course, we're all happy that it is still standing. Hopefully, the plan to turn it into a museum is successful. 😊
I liked the exterior of the house she tore down more than the one she replaced it with! The new mansion exterior resembles a giant salt box type house. The interior of the new mansion looks terrific. Still a great video.
I missed it. I visited 5 main cottages and run out of time. It took me all day. There are many of them. I guess the best solution is to cover whole town on foot just not to miss anything. It was beautiful. I wonder how museum takes care of interiors.
Ever since I saw a brief shot of it in the opening credits of “Little Gloria…Happy at Last,” I’ve wondered what this house is. The picture looks like they were marshaling the hounds for a hunt. Thank you, Ken!
I love how the house looks today. Question for you Ken. Is there any documentation of how the older homes decorated at Christmas? In or out side the home, cheers and thank you
Smaller mansions seemed to survive the wrecking ball and Newport is a small resort city that did not become a major commercial center creating a need for large commercial buildings. Economically it is considered in the low to moderate income census tract
I want to know what the f*** people are thinking back then like these are ginormous ginormous and I take how many people to clean it keep it it's crazy I don't know where people thought like this was a great idea unless you had multiple families living in here or something I don't know it's crazy to me it's crazy to me that's one person one family thought they needed this
A blessing such a beautiful home survived.
Agreed, but my jaw dropped when Ken said the previous mansion on that site was demolished😢

Every room was beautiful. The staircase was very beautiful.

Excellent design, beautifully
realized!! ❤
Absolutely GORGEOUS!
You are so knowledgeable in architecture that it blows my mind. In college I took several courses and enjoyed every one.
Beautiful in every way. The scale was just right. Not too little. Not too much.
One of the hallmarks of Carrère & Hastings.
My thoughts EXACTLY, the mansion is just right 👌
So fascinated by these historic homes!
Gorgeous!!
The entrance is perfect.
Beautiful! Bravo it wasn’t neglected then demolished!

What a beautiful house. So well done and I'm glad it still exists.
One of the most beautiful houses you’ve shown us. Wow
The entryway and staircase was amazing. I particularly enjoyed the wrecking ball comment!
Truly a gem!
I loved the murals
Beautiful.
My favorite house still in private hands.
The family of a high school friend of mine lived in this house in the 1980's. By then, the house had a fabulous pool and a tennis court.

I was the gardener ,butler and chauffeur there in 1986-7

Thank you so much for this fascinating history.

I would live there!
Nice.
It always amazed me how the marble staircases "float."
The Tiffaney commission paintings in the sunroom's alone could be worth what? I can't imagine...
It doesn't appear as large as some of the Newport Mansions. Glad it still stands.
I love how the house looks today.
Question for you Ken.
Is there any documentation of how the older homes decorated at Christmas?
In or out side the home, cheers and thank you
Beautiful place, but am I the only one who likes the Queen Anne mansion that occupied the property before Vernon Court (0:56)?
Never heard of “the grip” before. 0:43
Have you done Robert E Lee's House? The bold Greek inspires. Greek was Modern in 500 BCE and remains a Moder Design.
I like the house she demolished better than the one she built. The one she built was kind of cold with all that stone.
I actually liked 'the cottage' that was torn down, better. : (
Glad it survived. Wish we knew about the house she destroyed to build it though.

I like the original house better .
👍

That is NO cottage
and it's worth more than $11M in 2024
Cottage?😂
The 'Cottage ' she had demolished was nicer.
This is not a cottage...
Ugh......too many chimneys !! 🙄
