    The writers realized that Georges character is so loved by us viewers that they had this genius idea of making sheldons mother roleplay, so Sheldon only assumed he cheated.
    They really did that to not ruin the imagine of the character, brilliant.

      I thought they would go this route. Having the mother roleplay as a blonde means he may have thought it's next door neighbour. As a religious prude, Mary is not going to correct Sheldon. Also, If Mary was unaware of Sheldon's presence, she would believe the cheating based on George's previous history and not put 2+2 and think the other woman was her. If George dies soon after, she doesn't equate the other woman as being her roleplaying, so she actually does believe he cheated on her based on Sheldons story

    Retcon is not fixing it. There's also a scene in BBT seasons before where Sheldon talked to Leonard about the disintegration of his parents' marriage and how his father took up with a bottle blonde who tried to buy his affection with action figures. So, even if someone buys into the scene of Mary in a blonde wing that totally looks fake and would've fallen off during sex, who was buying Sheldon action figures? Mary could've bleached her hair blonde and handed Sheldon action figures, and Sheldon would've still recognized it was his own mother giving them to him, therefore it *must* have been another woman with the action figures. This "Young Sheldon" scene is just a pathetic attempt by YS writers to whitewash George, like they've whitewashed much of BBT canon. But to me, since BBT was first, it is canon, and George was a rotten husband/father, and a cheater.

  • @bellaloves2815

    I do like what they did for Sheldon‘s dad in the show because we got so attached to George as a character for being a good dad. He’s trying his best even when he doesn’t fully understand things. But I don’t like the taking away Sheldon‘s character depth, and making it a misunderstanding when in reality, this traumatized him and explained a lot of his behaviours when he was an adult. In Big Bang theory, Sheldon loved his dad, but had a very complex relationship with him because George in Big Bang theory was not the best father to Sheldon. He didn’t understand Sheldon and did get frustrated with Sheldon easily and in the show Mary (older) did call George a cheater, and said, while she did love him and honoured him as her husband, she and him did not have the best relationship as a result of his infidelity and some of his behaviours towards the kids. He was meant to be the standard Texan man in the 80s. At this point, I’m starting to think of young Sheldon as an entirely separate show that has taken away a lot of Sheldon‘s actual backstory from the show in order to make it into something that is more digestible and shows more functional, but loving family, as opposed to the complex nature of adult Sheldon Childhood traumas reflecting in him as an adult. I think that the young Sheldon writers are choosing to ignore some of the times that adult Sheldon would actually break and talk about his childhood and would say what his dad would say to him and some of those things were not nice and truly hurt Sheldon.

    • @AzureKyle
      @AzureKyle 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This also could be a matter of perspective. The stories Sheldon tells are through his eyes, and he doesn't view the world the same way most people do, so the stories we hear in TBBT are warped by his perception, while YS shows them how they actually were. I can definitely believe, with how awkward talking to Sheldon seems to be in both shows, George tried to give him helpful words of encouragement, but Sheldon viewed them as hurtful and traumatic.
      Or it could just be YS writers retconning TBBT to make George a good father figure for a fun and entertaining show, rather than what would have probably ended up more of an upsetting and traumatic show that wouldn't have been as successful. I don't think anyone would want to watch George get drunk and verbally (and possibly physically) abuse Sheldon and his other kids.

    "Fixed" is a bit strange here. There was nothing to "fix" regarding Sheldon's backstory. His character was shaped, in part, by his dad's infidelity. This isn't a plot hole or inconsistency. There's nothing to fix.
    Sheldon's dad was a decent, likable guy. Men like that sometimes have affairs. There's no contradiction there. Good people sometimes do bad things.
    I don't get this idea that good people can't ever be shown to have significant flaws or doing bad things, that in order to be "good", you have to always be good and never make bad decisions that have serious consequences.
    Sheldon's dad could be a man who was a good father and, for most of the marriage until he and his wife started to grow apart, a good husband, and still have had an affair.
    Good people sometimes do bad things. This wouldn't have ruined the character, it would have given him more depth.

It's obvious Sheldon being Sheldon sees things only his way, like how he said his brother would bully him all the time when most of the actions his brother took was to care for and look out for him. Or how he painted out his father in various references then we get to see the other side. In big bang theory were always shown Sheldon over exaggerates things to suit his narrative and understanding whether it's for his ego or otherwise. This show builds on that.

      After 7 seasons with this character I would do some writing acrobatics too to keep this character like he is portrayed. Kind of like how George RR Martin kept wanting to kill off Tyrian Lannister, but liked the character too much and kept his story going, or how Jesse was supposed to be killed off at the end of season 1 of Breaking Bad but him and Walt's chemistry was too good, or how in the show Chuck, "Captain Awesome" was supposed to be discovered to be a Russian Spy, but the writers liked his character's personality too much to make him turn traitor, arguably making for a better show.

    They didn’t “fix” it. They ruined it. The fact that Sheldon suffered the trauma of seeing his father cheat on his mother and that he still learned to forgive him and continue to remember him fondly was a big part of Sheldon’s lore. They basically reduced this life altering moment to a blunder. Also the dad had always been portrayed on Big bang as a flawed but ultimately good man. On young Sheldon they made him overly virtuous when they could have given the character lot more layers.

LAME!. Old sheldon struggles and loneliness were the main reason to empathize with him (given how annoying and difficult he was)... and to like even more his friends that accept/support him and became his family by choice. To give him an extremely cool and caring family doesn't fit that old sheldon... it just make him an even selfish and annoying jerk.

Sheldon talked about his relationship with his grandfather in The Big Bang. He is barely mentioned in Young Sheldon, and it does not seem as if the young kids knew who he was.
