Very cool video. Loved the history, the nerdiness about their particular functions, and the excellent playing to demonstrate their strengths. I really enjoy all your videos, thanks! 😀
Brilliant video and playing. I have a copicat ic400 and roland RE301. The best part of the copicat is setting 2 and 3 combined for that rippling echo effect. The Roland has many head selections but none of them accurately nail that particular, haunting sound. Hank Marvin used them for a while, later on in the Shadows career, but it could not hold a candle to the early Meazzis he used to use. I don't know what echo unit was used on the original Apache recording- but it sends shivers down my spine. The RE301 is beautifully made though.
awesome vid very educational alot of stuff i didn't know (i'm 55 and a music geek myself). and to think it wasn't til' clear up into the late 90's that they could even digitally reproduce the depth and warmth of these old analog bad boys. and as is so often the case american and british inventors worked together to make it happen even if they didn't know it at the time. if there is any "special relationship" between u.s. and u.k. it's just as much music as it is politics.
Ahhhh The Copycat! My constant companion for the first 10 years as a guitar player. Still got one but a bit dusty,I still keep buying modern delay pedals trying to replicate my old WEM and still never quite get there ...unfortunately as my Marshalls got bigger ,louder and more gain-y the background noise drove sound men mad and they slammed their noise gates shut which was really off-putting live ! I have an interesting modern-ish pedal that tries hard to get into the tape echo "head-space"(see what I did there......)the Zander Circuitry TAPE DECK modulated lo-fi delay - I shall bring it for you to try when I finally stop injuring myself and repairing broken guitars ,cars, bikes and houses...Cheers bro ( another absolutely cracking vid) see you ASAP H@rr!$

Gorgeous Echoplex, I'm digging Maestro more and more these days.

Man, the Watkins Copicat is rarer than hen’s teeth in the States…I’ve never seen one in the flesh!

You can definitely "walk on the moon" with the roland space echo.

For sure, they make a hell of a racket through a gained-up amp. The pedal sounds interesting Harris! Look forward to a guitar-based meet up 🤘🤘🤘
That’s the Jerry Garcia pre amp. Nice.
Brilliant informative video Martin , really enjoyed it . Thank you. Dare I ask , do you still have the tape delay you first got ?
I’m sad to say I don’t. I had two custom copycats both valve. Can’t remember when or why I sold them.
