In Bushido Blade, you actually have to fight honorably. ie, using bushido. This is all actually completely wrong. If you break the honor code, you get NO ending, just a message saying you fucked up. To get the bad ending, you simply must follow the code of Bushido(Max must of got this one because the game is probably a bit lenient when declaring whether or not you broke the code.) To get the good ending, you must follow the code AND you cannot get hit once. Plus, you have to go over to the well during the first battle.
Bushido Blade rewards your for playing smart. You don't actually have to fight any of the first fights (and if you don't you beat the game as a hero) which is why your guy is talking about how much he respects everyone when he kills them. You end up fighting a final boss after the dojo opponent (either a giant black samurai or a fighter with a nagamaki "Wanna try? Fine by me."). It won't matter if you take any damage or die a few few times fighting them. Once defeated, you get the "good" endings.
Used to play this game with my sisters x-boyfriend. Smoking weed and playing Bushido Blade, no music just sound effects, some rounds could last a good minute or longer with many different attacks and blocks and changes of stance, sometimes we wouldn't even attack each other for 30 seconds but change stance and position here and there, and then get to throw only one blow towards each other, and someone would be dead after that one attack, great round. Button bashing guaranteed you to be killed with one blow, from either of us. We used everything, sand throwing and then a kill blow jumping attacks kills throwing knives and attacking. This game is the only game I have played that is truly 100% gyroscopic from either character all times in relation to the other character at every given moment. We didn't talk much, we even got to a stage where we would turn away from the TV and look at each other and fight, then when someone was dead we would turn around and see what happend, those rounds we fucking close, imagining where the other guy is and then using the force to kill him, which never always worked but when we saw what happened you could say we were both watching the screen at the time. This game for us was about respect not beating someone up. We used to play this game attack and defence only, and swap, defend as many attacks as you can before you die, we never counted how many attacks we blocked, that would of slowed down the game, we just kept going with blocking until we died from the other persons blows as two player against each other. Though you could throw a block as a faint then attack, they were funny kills. I always said the best move is this game is block, learn how to block/parry perfectly, then you can go in for the kill even though when we were playing attack against block you could never attack back, just block until you died. We had many a laughs playing this game. Some really funny kills and so so many steps of the line then attacks, to kill. All so playing single player eye view was amazing because when the computer was not in your line of sight you had to imagine where they were and what move they were doing and block or attack. Great game, just most people want crash bang whallop, this game is more like chess than draughts, obviously. GREAT GAME IF I EVER MAKE ENOUGH MONEY I WILL PAY THE MAKERS TO MAKE THIS GAME AGAIN BUT ON AN UP TO DATE CONSOLE. MAYBE HAVE DEATH MOVE IF ITS A KILL MOVE ANIMATION, BUT MAYBE NOT JUST GREAT CRISP GRAPHICS. This game is only good in 2 player against someone who is good as well, against the computer, the game is rubbish, good way to learn play the 100 man level get to understand your weapon, I could kill people with the first inch of my Katana and often too. And following Bushido, so no dishonorable fighting. Easier said than done when some opponents are dirty fighters. :) Also, I think you have to actually move through the areas to get to a specific place and keep alive as many of the starting cast opponents as possible. Memory's a bit fuzzy there.
Hitting them when they're down or from behind. And I think hitting them before their intro moment in the fight. Not completely sure, it's a weird game.
If I remember correctly: Throwing items/sand at your opponent Striking them from behind Striking them while they are running (I think if they're charging at you, it's okay. Just not while they run any other direction). I think there are more, but I can't be sure. FAQS online would be much more complete.
Regarding that ending, if I remember right everyone has two endings. If you lose a single match, and/or fight dishonorably (throwing sand, backstabs, attacking a taunting or downed opponent) you'll get the bad ending that usually ends in seppuku, because you're not upholding the code of bushido. It's actually a kinda neat gimmick.
There are special criteria you can meet for special endings and hidden bosses. You have to reach the sewer on your own, follow the Bushido code of honor, and defeat all your opponents without taking any damage. Certain character and weapon combinations can help with this. Mikado and the naginata is a solid combination, but Mikado runs slowly in the windy zone just before the sewer.
Dude, YES. I remember playing the hell out of this back in the day. Well, actually now that I think of it, it was on a squaresoft demo disc. It had Bushido Blade, and even a demo of FFVII.
You could get crippled in your first match in this game but if you survive the match your next battle you'll be able to walk again or use your other arm again but it will be covered in a bandage
I wonder if this game could've had a meta.. Would be pretty awesome seeing tournaments for this game based only on extreme spacing knowledge of techniques. This would be sick to watch on a competitive level.

Are you gonna do Bushido 2 Max? And yeah would love to see you play it with your friends you have over sometimes on your channel like you did with Street Fighter The Movie and etc. So funny! Always makes my day with some unexpected stuff on this channel :D Keep doing what you do!
6:27 yeah you're right !!!... i was playing *Silent Hill 1* on my cellphone a couple of days ago, after that intro, the way Harry runs into the fog was so nostalgic and charming at the same time... good times... lol
Still own this game, and still play it every once in a while. Such a great design... I'd love to see a new game take this style up without having to be a straight one-screen fighting game. I admit to loving Bushido Blade 2's larger cast and weapon combinations, but that game did lose a little of the spirit of this one. :)
Max, you weren't supposed to kill anyone except Katze and the final boss. The stages are interconnected, so the trick is crippling each opponent's leg and making a run for it. Doing that gets you your character's true ending.
I only played the second game, i remember this character who could throw one of his katanas, if aimed properly you can throw them right at the enemy heads. It looked funny seeing the Katana stuck in their heads. That game was so much fun.
The two Bashido Blades and Samurai Shodown 3 really killed it for me as a kid. The atmosphere in those games were never surpassed or even attempted ever again.
I found out the creator of For Honor was inspired by this game, so I look it up and find Max has a video for it, couldn't ask for a better way to see it, but the creator of For Honor Jason VandenBerghe said this was the first game that made him feel melee combat and completely inspired him.
I LOVE THE HELL OUT OF THIS GAME!!! Me and a few of the neighborhood kids would have tournaments back in the day. Definitely one of the most unique fighting games from my childhood.
Never played the max version but the game was awesome. I particularly remember Yugo's theme which is possibly the very best character specific theme I've ever heard
I still have my copy of the original Bushido Blade....good times. I always went with the sledge hammer, double forward & horizontal attack equals instant win for most fights.
Righteous Kung Fu Everything is casualized these days :-( It's a big problem because it means that, for the folks who *really* love games, we have almost nothing to play. Almost everything is being made to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
SwinnyUK yup, its a shame too. Go and look up For honor gameplay from last year and while it wasnt as unforgiving as boshido blade it was still the closest we have gotten. Now however its a dumbed down version.
I had the Japanese version of this and had a hell of a time figuring out how to get the best ending. In the end I'd run to the area with the well, slash their ankles so that they were crippled and hop on in where they could no longer follow you. It worked, at least as far as getting new opponents went. One of the enemies had a gun, too - not too tough to dodge, but a neat twist.
I want a modern version of this game the insta kill on a vital area hit was so much fun i would play the shit out a modern version with modified mechanics.
I miss this game so much it was on a demo disc along with ridge racer and a ton of others almost brings a tear to my eye been waiting for this thank you Max senpai :)
I have this game its a classic, I have the demo that came with my ps1 along with final fantasy 7 demo in the same disk. I finally got a used copy few years back and happy to finally have it.
Yo! I love Bushido Blade. The block mechanic is kinda tricky. You have to correctly time the block for each swing your opponent takes. Once you figure it out the game becomes fun and interesting.

I miss this game with there was a way to play this against people online, that would be something I would do and often, so if anyone knows of a place where I can do that and you feel that you are good at this game.
Challenge me.
P.S.
I am sorry for messing you up 8 times out of 10 rounds.
I understand if you do not challenge me, being scared is alright.
At least your alive, or you could challenge me and be dead and scared 8 times out of 10.

I remember this game. Still overwhelmingly the most accurate depiction of sword fights in gaming
to get the good ending you need to finish the game without dying once :P
And following Bushido, so no dishonorable fighting. Easier said than done when some opponents are dirty fighters. :)
Also, I think you have to actually move through the areas to get to a specific place and keep alive as many of the starting cast opponents as possible. Memory's a bit fuzzy there.
what counts as a dishonorable move?
Hitting them when they're down or from behind. And I think hitting them before their intro moment in the fight. Not completely sure, it's a weird game.
If I remember correctly:
Throwing items/sand at your opponent
Striking them from behind
Striking them while they are running (I think if they're charging at you, it's okay. Just not while they run any other direction).
I think there are more, but I can't be sure. FAQS online would be much more complete.
Oh yeah, I forgot about striking them while they are talking.
That's probably the most realistic death I've seen in a video game via gun, he doesn't go flying, just drops.
ps1 graphics that have a sweet spot in my heart from tomb raider, MGS1, Resident Evil Directors cut...
8:46 I haven't laughed that hard all week. That was gold.
Dude, YES. I remember playing the hell out of this back in the day. Well, actually now that I think of it, it was on a squaresoft demo disc. It had Bushido Blade, and even a demo of FFVII.
This is my childhood right here Max. I love this game.
So you have to actually deal with your injuries at the end. Cool. never heard of this game.
Also BOSS RAGE FOR GOOD ENDING!
It's fun with friends
You could get crippled in your first match in this game but if you survive the match your next battle you'll be able to walk again or use your other arm again but it will be covered in a bandage
Awww man you missed a good one!! This was one of those hidden gems
I wonder if this game could've had a meta..
Would be pretty awesome seeing tournaments for this game based only on extreme spacing knowledge of techniques.
This would be sick to watch on a competitive level.

The last boss put Max on the ground, Max put him in the GRAVE!
this and 2 were my favorite psOne games. Play this again please
The gun guy proves exactly what would happen irl.
commited seppuku! that is a bad ending indeed! man this just makes me wish somebody would try to revive cinematech!
Are you gonna do Bushido 2 Max? And yeah would love to see you play it with your friends you have over sometimes on your channel like you did with Street Fighter The Movie and etc. So funny! Always makes my day with some unexpected stuff on this channel :D Keep doing what you do!
Since "For honor"is so well recieved. I hope to see Bushido blade getting revived one day. Now it's the perfect time to develope a new BB game
Bushido Blade was so much fun. I borrowed this game so much from my uncles.
Bushido Blade is an important part of my childhood, it's such a great game too.
Man they really need to bring back a game like this. Like... an anti-Killer Instinct fighting game where every hit matters and insta death is a thing.
You won, but you won dishonorably. Gotta fight with honot
I still own this game. One of my favorites from the PS for sure. I remember just running around the levels to explore.
AWESOME GAME....i remember playing this game when i was a kid... good old times *tears*
This game has such a strong vibe and concept they could easily remake it and improve it.
that's what you get for bringing a sword to a gun fight Max...
This doesn't show the different stances... this game is much more interesting.
I loved this game back in the day. It would be amazing to see this remastered.
IM FUCKING GLAD YOU PLAYED THIS. Thank you Max for having fantastic taste.
6:27
yeah you're right !!!... i was playing *Silent Hill 1* on my cellphone a couple of days ago, after that intro, the way Harry runs into the fog was so nostalgic and charming at the same time... good times... lol
I played this and the sequel as a kid! My favorite Fighting Game series from the PS1!
I used to rent the shit out of this. This doesnt make me feel old at all.
Does this mean the first episode of Fighting History is nearly here? If not, I understand. Editing takes a long time.
Still own this game, and still play it every once in a while. Such a great design... I'd love to see a new game take this style up without having to be a straight one-screen fighting game. I admit to loving Bushido Blade 2's larger cast and weapon combinations, but that game did lose a little of the spirit of this one. :)
BAD END, MAX!
You didn't honor the Bushido Code!
*Summary of that night on Twitch*
Black Lotus is Alive in Bushido Blade 2 however he is named Highway Man
Max, you weren't supposed to kill anyone except Katze and the final boss.
So many memories of playing this awesome game in my PSX days. Thanks for making a video about this gem Max.
I miss this game so much... '97 was a great year for gaming. Too many titles to name across all consoles that were current during that time.
this game brings back so many memories. i remember playing this game till the sun came back up lol
The two Bashido Blades and Samurai Shodown 3 really killed it for me as a kid. The atmosphere in those games were never surpassed or even attempted ever again.
One of the best weapon fighters at the time.
I found out the creator of For Honor was inspired by this game, so I look it up and find Max has a video for it, couldn't ask for a better way to see it, but the creator of For Honor Jason VandenBerghe said this was the first game that made him feel melee combat and completely inspired him.
This game was so much fun back in the day. I can remember playing against my brothers and going for insta kills.
I LOVE THE HELL OUT OF THIS GAME!!! Me and a few of the neighborhood kids would have tournaments back in the day. Definitely one of the most unique fighting games from my childhood.
One of my favorite games of all time. I had so many best of 100 matches with friends.
to get the good ending you can't lose and you can't attack them while they are speaking
Since you mentioned ps1 fighting games have you played Bloody roar 2 max?
Never played the max version but the game was awesome. I particularly remember Yugo's theme which is possibly the very best character specific theme I've ever heard
I don't think that there was a "max version", he was saying Max as Maximilian, the dude that uploaded the video? lol
Jeyser Makes perfect sense now for some reason loool
+Kyo Kusanagi he doesnt mean the max version he asking max just didnt put , inbetween
+Kyo Kusanagi but that was a good game doe
Wait, if they were a secret group of assassins, and they could never leave... how do they go do the assassin thing?
I remember this game. I always thought the guy with a gun was so cheap. The only downside to this game was how short it was. Sweet video again Max!
I remember playing this with my cousin, man. wow. thanks!
I still own Bushido Blade 1 and 2. Classic games.
1997. What a time to be alive.
Man, I still have Bushido Blade 2 on my PS1
I still have my copy of the original Bushido Blade....good times. I always went with the sledge hammer, double forward & horizontal attack equals instant win for most fights.
They really need to remaster this beauty it will bring great honor
THE NOSTALGIA!!! Imagine how amazing a modern version of this game could be.
The closet game was early stage For Honor but they casualized it, now its easy as shit
Righteous Kung Fu Everything is casualized these days :-(
It's a big problem because it means that, for the folks who *really* love games, we have almost nothing to play. Almost everything is being made to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
SwinnyUK
yup, its a shame too. Go and look up For honor gameplay from last year and while it wasnt as unforgiving as boshido blade it was still the closest we have gotten. Now however its a dumbed down version.
There was also the Deadliest Warrior video game that has maiming and insta-kills. But that game is a shit-show.
''You didn't know what i do to my enemies when they're down'' That's my bushido.
The guy with the gun was where I stopped playing this as a kid. Gotta go back to it now
Bushido Blade is a great game, with mechanics that remain original and fun.
I had the Japanese version of this and had a hell of a time figuring out how to get the best ending. In the end I'd run to the area with the well, slash their ankles so that they were crippled and hop on in where they could no longer follow you.
It worked, at least as far as getting new opponents went. One of the enemies had a gun, too - not too tough to dodge, but a neat twist.
thanks for the trip down memory lane
I want a modern version of this game the insta kill on a vital area hit was so much fun i would play the shit out a modern version with modified mechanics.
This seriously takes me back.
“But I won”
Play Bushido Blade 2! The multiplayer brings many EVO quality sets!
I definitely had this... Way of the Samurai was dope too... The original.
I remember. Got it on import and was totally enchanted by it. I think it was the 1st fighter to have a 'first person' camera option. Good memories 😊
Sudoku!!! LOL yeah that math can be fucking deadly.
Link cable play on this game was great, it let you play it both in 1st person mode. As well as being able to battle in the joined story mode map area.
MORE BUSHIDO BLADE!
or, bushido blade 2!
Yo! I love Bushido Blade. The block mechanic is kinda tricky. You have to correctly time the block for each swing your opponent takes. Once you figure it out the game becomes fun and interesting.
Really wish they would make a game like this on next gen.
This game and tekken 3 and the first two tony hawk pro skater games were my childhood
8:47 killed Max before he even finished his sentence. XD
There's a 2nd Bushido Blade game that does have split-screen multiplayer. It's a ton of fun.
This game needs a remaster. I would spend money to play this again with updated graphics

max proceeds to run away from guy with gun..............really max cmon now dood
I loved Bushido Blade. Especially getting the secret playing guy. Think he was all in badadges.. Running through the entire game considering all the maps were connected.
Ahh man this reminded me of tenchu
me too, just blades and foot steps sounds.
I miss that game.
It definitely deserve a remake
tenchu was definitely that shit!!
Yes, it needs one badly. I loved Tenchu
Tenchu was my first playstation game. I loved it. Second and third were FF7 and Siphon Filter. Great times indeed.

you are 100 % right about crappy graphics being charming! because THEY REALLY DID TRY HARD unlike today.... like i love resident evil voice acting it makes it organic
We used to play it at my friend Nicks' house back in high scholl and his dad was pretty good at it because he was patient.
school
I have this game, can confirm, sick as hell.
