Robin Williams called Billy before he passed and said 'you know I love you?' Billy's Wife said that was him saying good bye. I watch some of the things Billy has done over the years and each time I watch one, it's like saying hi again to an old friend. I hope wherever they put his statue it's a big yin.

Billy is the one person in the world that could be diagnosed with parkinson's, tell it to "fuck off" and then to carry on enjoying his life. He would hate this title but he is one of the true saints of our time. He has dragged me through many horrible moments with his hilarious and most down to earth personality.

Just hearing Billy Connolly's name puts a smile on your face, not many people can achieve that. LEGEND.
The term 'national treasure' has never applied to anyone on this planet as much as it does to the big yin. It almost doesnt do him justice. An icon of a human being let alone an entertainer.
Billy Connolly is an International Treasure, beloved worldwide.
I hate to see an illness affecting Billy.
He's made people laugh and be entertained for decades, he deserves much more.
I don't suppose anybody gets healthier as they get older.

My Dad knew him from the folk music scene and he actually stayed over at our house a few times. It was back when he used to drink so he and my dad would often be passed out on the sofa the next morning. Nothing like seeing him snoring in just his underwear to make a 6 year old's day. He and my father have kept in touch and I've had the pleasure of meeting him several times while my father spent time with him and he found my memories of the sofa and the underwear very funny. The Parkinsons diagnosis hit everyone hard but he remains a brave and funny man.
I was lucky enough to see him at Hammersmith 4 or 5 years ago...maybe more and he did 3 hours, no break, no script and i was sore laughing....genius of a man who's humour is simple and honest, and we all recognise the people he talks about....total class and always one of us :)
Never in the history of comedy or indeed humanity has there ever been a greater man than Billy Connolly. I only hope he knows how he helped us all and how impressed we all are.

i met him in glasgows city centre and he was so funny, told me a funny story about his friend with the same name as me and i got a pic with him
I am so glad they're awarding this to him while he's still got all his marbles and can appreciate fully how adored he is. Billy Connolly will always be my fantasy Dad, the proudest Glaswegian, and the absolute BEST comedian of all time. Billy, you are eternal. Love you so much.

Actually PD can have a pretty bad impact on someone's cognitive function and memory and as it progresses it can there's a strong possibility of developing dementia. This is far more than a disease that effects the body

Watching his videos and listening to him got me through my stage 4 cancer battle with a smile and happy tears.
That was 8 years ago and I still watch several of his videos every day.

Thank you. I’m doing well now. It was stage 4 head and neck cancer.
Have a farm in the middle of the USA and my livestock, is cats. I rescue cats. Had my mind on winning that fight because someone had to take care of the cats. Turned my barn into a large cat home. At 69 gets a little expensive at times but doing ok. They are happy, healthy and well fed. And safe from predators.
Now dealing with my wife suffering from stage 4 cancer in every major bone in her body. A kickback from stage 4 breast cancer she had 5 years ago.

Saw him in London in the 1970s. I have never laughed so much i was sitting in the isle crying with laughter. He is a national treasure
I had the greatest night of my life seeing the Big Yin live on stage in Cape town . Laughed with him for over fifty years . Proud to be a Scot .
As an American I was lucky enough to be mesmerized at a young age when he was on a show called, "Head of the Class." I have loved Billy for over 30 years and could not be more delighted for him ❤

i remember having to stop watching one of his shows on VHS back in the day and go outside to breath. he has always cracked me up even watching those clips i had tears running down my face.
I had to stop his video because my dad was laughing way too much, dad had just had a triple heart bypass...don't watch billy after having one of them.
I wish we had special recognition awards given by surprise in the United States! This is a wonderful tribute!

Yes, I can remember watching this, and it was the first time that I didn't see Pamela by his side, and yes I found it very strange that he didn't mention her, but as you say, it must have been because he was so greatly moved by the whole thing, but his lovely daughters were there for him.

Well, he is very strongly Scots in his appeal, but that doesn't prevent people who don't feel about things the way the Scots do (e.g. the English) from loving his material snd style of delivery. Sorry, I haven't expressed myself well...
Bouncybon I don't want to start an argument, but I have never met a scot or englishperson or welshperson who in essence are not exactly the same.
Well OK. People are people. But the Scots detest the English - which is something (in my opinion only) that the English will have to find a way of dealing with, going forward. The strange thing is: the English like and admire the Scots in an uncomplicated way.... (generally speaking). The big question is: can they prevent Nicola Sturgeon from breaking up the UK? Answer: Probably not.

I would of loved to of meet this amazing man of a comedian and actor. It's sad the fact that parkinsons disease has taken hold of him, he didn't seem all that too lively physically and slowed him down a fair bit, but on the inside I'm sure he really is all the more lively and joyful than he could ever of been before.
The first ever movie I ever saw Billy Connolly in was The Muppets Treasure Island, a Jim Henson movie. Although his role in that movie was very short, I still remember it well.
You'll always recognise Billy's iconic appearance with the big frizzy hippy-style hair and the beard.
What a legend Billy is. Very well deserved.

I have had the amazing good fortune. After many years as a professional Musician, I fell into becoming a BILLY CONNOLLY Lookalike. I developed into a Billy Connolly Tribute Act. I have had some of the best experiences of my life looking like Billy, especially in innocent incidents in the community....for example....outside a pub, somebody taking the piss...."Hey, that's Billy Connolly!" Me.."Oh, d'ye fuckin' think so??" It works every time and always leads to a few laughs"
I was tearing up the hole time & seeing some of my other favorite comics n actors showing respect was beautiful ps im not normally this soppy lol

growing up in the 80's my parents would only let me stay up late 2 nights a year. Christmas eve and Comic Relief. Even though every kid loves Christmas, Comic relief was my favourite because I got to see Billy for the first time. That image of the kids all grabbing at his straggly hair in Ethiopia is still one of the most enduring images for famine relief in the world and one of my earliest memories.

What a fitting and amazing moment, the applause was super! I first watched him do 'Billy bites yer bum' round a friends house the day I got my GCSE's in 2003, best thing I did. It got me into standup and I never looked back. I got to see him in Brighton in 2015, an incredible moment. Just wish I could have a conversation with him. A legend!
I have grown up listening to laughing uncontrollably ( sometimes I honestly thought I would die laughing with his well timed humour ) and loving Billy.
Someone else said in the comments that whenever he is back with some new material it really does feel like you are catching up with an old and dear friend.
To see him mature in nature and relax for want of a better word I am sure was all down to his lovely wife giving him a new perspective on past events and helping him come to terms and accept those things he had no power to change.
To see Billy with this illness now is just so very cruel but as always Billy manages to take the subject, turn it on its head and make you laugh.
God Bless you Billy, you are truly loved by the world over.
