As a child of the 70s, Valerie Carter opened my ears and my mind to sounds I have never heard before. That voice spoke to something dormant, and I've never been the same since. RIP angel. Forever thinking of you, and listening to what you wanted me to hear. I heard. And for that, I cannot thank you enough.

What a beautiful soul, you can't sing with this emotion without being so special...I first heard Valerie's angelic voice on Christopher Cross's track Spinning back in 1980 and immediately fell in love with her! God rest her soul!!

her 1st two 1977-78 Columbia LPs were re-released this year on one CD titled Ooh Child. I picked it up on Amazon.
Grab one while you can. Also waited 2-3 weeks for the boat from Japan her The 1996 2-album Way it Is/ Find A River CD to arrive and went to valeriecarter.net and got the posthumous "The Lost Tapes" collection extracted from some 500 unheard tracks she left us. Was happy to see Utube was correct to suggest I would appreciate this honorary track too

both her Columbia records were rereleased last year, 2019, on one CD, "Ooh Child: The Columbia Years", her other 2 records "The Way It IS/Find A River" are available from Japan also combined on one CD, search Amazon. She left some 500 tracks over her career; that are being improved, remixed, & compiled. The 1st LP/CD "The Lost Tapes" include tracks from demos etc available at www.valeriecarter.net and a 2nd, Lost Tapes 2, should be forthcoming by 2021.

If you look to see who is on it, it is like the who's who of Rock and Soul, members of Little Feat, Earth Wind and Fire, Jackson Brown and so many others. It still sounds fresh to this day. I was lost in the twilight zone apparently. Her rendition of "Ooh Child" was a song I remember hearing constantly on pop radio in 1978-79, and I presumed it was top 10. Nope. Not even a top 100 charter, according to my research. I think it far surpasses the original and in fact for me she owns the song.

Isn't it amazing that our best singers and actors in this country are usually the ones that the masses have never heard about? These great artists put out great work yet usually die in obscurity. I guess the great marketing campaigns put together by our great PR gurus are just too powerful for the masses to resist. The situation is much worse today because of crapfest TV shows such as American Idol and The Voice. Instead of studying music and painstakingly forming their own bands, these asshole contestants who are chosen for these shows come in with the attitude that they are owed a life of fame and fortune simply because they can warble a cover version of a classic song written by people who have real talent. The 'big winner' on these shows then gets to record an album that we are expected to spend our hard earned money on---despite the fact that most of these 'big winners' are five years away from even being good enough to headline a concert on their own----if their store bought 'careers' even make it that far. Other than a handful of aging musicians like myself, few people will remember or even know about superb talents such as Valerie Carter, Shuggy Otis, or even Lead Belly----but most of these no-taste Americans will damn sure be able to tell you all about Miley Cyrus 'twerking' her stupid ass off, or the truly pathetic no-talent Madonna, still strutting on stage in her 60's---and still unable to really sing a song with true conviction---and now no longer even sexy.
