The first game I played was Cube Escape: Theatre on PC. Was expecting smth basic and fun and then imagine my shock when I had to pull out a dead baby/fetus from the toilet, using a plunger.
There are some things that are very Dutch, and you can tell that a Dutch developer made this. The cabinet in the wall with a bed in it for example. Those used to be fairly common in the Netherlands, some people slept in a "bedstee" for warmth, closer to the kitchen and an enclosed space. So for many Dutch people that reveal wouldn't be all that interesting. There's also a spyglass that used to be called binoculars. I don't know if they fixed the translation, but in Dutch the word for both of them is the same, one or two eyes doesn't matter, both are a "verrekijker". Something that I noticed are the names. You've got the Eilander family, Islander, and the Van der Boom family, Of/From the Tree. But you've also got Dale Van der Meer (From/Of the Lake). His name when said in Dutch sounds like "deel van der meer" which means part of the lake. Dale sort of does become part of the lake over the series...
How does it feel playing the series as a Dutch person since most of the quality media we encounter is in British? Do the living places, the vegetation, the atmosphere feel similar to you?
Doors are an interesting object to distort. I remember reading The Fith Elephant by Terry Pratchett, a character hears a knock at the door at night. Walks up to open the door, only to be attacked from behind. Doors have two sides. The knock came from the inside. When he locked the door for the night, the attacker was already in the building. A bit of a re-telling but you can get the idea. Never trust a door in a creepy/horror setting.
This is quite a neat presentation of a game series I've never heard about I'm not the type of player to try and piece together stories or lore like this, but I greatly enjoy hearing people talk about them ^^
I love how you give us your philosophical insight about the game, thank you! By the way: have you already tried dialing the phone number of Rusty Lake’s Mental Health and Fishing? 😁 you will fall into a very interesting rabbit hole with that one. You find it in the White Door game.
I've been playing rusty lake games since i was about 9yo, so i've basically grown up with them. I loved watching your video and how you managed to put words on those special things that make these games so great. Great video !!
I really liked the part about doors. I never heard about those interpretations of it, but now I think it has influenced Jonathan Sims in the writing of The Magnus Archives and the Distortion
There's: Cube escape: season (2015) CE: Lake (2015) CE: Arles (2015) CE: Harvey's box (2015) CE: Case 23 (2015) CE: Mill (2015) Rusty Lake Hotel (2015) CE: Birthday (2016) CE : Theatre (2016) Rusty Lake Roots (2016) CE: Cave(2017) Rusty Lake Paradise (2018) Cube escape Paradox (2018) The white door (2020) Cube escape Samsara Room remake (2020) The past within (2022) Rusty lake Underground Blossom (2023)
RL Hotel still doesn't make much sense. What kind of guests don't notice other guests are missing and they are served their animal side's meat as dinner? (Putting aside questions about if their meat would be animal since they are hybrid humans)
It requires some critical thinking and there are also some hidden scenes when you complete the extra achievements. But it's mostly a jigsaw puzzle that you have to put together and try to see the bigger picture with many of the pieces still missing.
I don't understand very well english, but i'd understand something. I want to tell you something interesting: "the past it's never dead, is not eveen past" that phrase it's from William Faulkner, maybe it's just a coincidence or maybe not...
For the quality, art, voicing, music and so much, it's amazing that they cost so little/are free. The developers also make extra puzzles/challenges to put on their social media and give away Steam keys to the winners (I've won one just by commenting who my favorite character was and why)

what an excellent deep cut from Pratchett, love when someone reminds me how endlessly relevant he is
This channel is a gem, a hidden one, which should be changed, yet oh so valuable!
I love rusty lake so much. The whole vibe and the singular, dark, and kinda hilarious storylines

Quite an easy answer: they know.
It's Time
@@nahaiatours The issue would be they would start worrying about themselves being next

I used to play these games in high school and got annoyed some of them cost money.
