So happy to see Mr. Pirate at the end:)
Me too!
And me !
I hope the Mr. Pirate health updates videos have kept everyone entertained and informed. He's doing great today. We're taking it one week at a time, as you must with a 21 year old cat, but so far so good!
And me😂!
@@HelpfulVancouverVet Can guarantee everyone who clicked on this video was terrified. Really pleased to hear all is well.
Roses are red, violets are blue.
Mr Pirate's my favourite.
But you're OK too.
He's my favourite too!

Congratulations on the baby!🎉

@@HelpfulVancouverVet Congrats on your baby from South West Germany! 🎉🎉🎉
Mr Rogers with a cat
Cat version of Bob Ross. tells you to squish happily instead of paint happily
I am honoured to be compared to either one of those legends, though you flatter me to do so.
@@HelpfulVancouverVet glad the human and cat family is doing OK. :) I dont have pets but love them :3 you do have helpful tips so thank you. also very joyful!
So true !
I have missed your kitties! My own 22 year old passed away in September but your videos were instrumental in helping make her later years as comfortable as possible! I recommend your channel to basically every cat owner I know 😊
That is amazing to hear. 22 is a very respectable age, congratulations on taking care of your little friend so well!
I’m sorry for your loss. 😿🌈❤️
So Sorry for your loss. I too lost a 17 year old male Russianblue in April and miss him so much. As a senior, my cats are a lot of company. But there comes a time you know it is time and keeping them around when they are not themselves begins to feel selfish. Never gets easier but try my best to remind myself he is in no pain and I did the right thing. Hope you are okay.
my 22 year old passed last September, taking a break and thinking about fostering I don't know if I can handle being responsible for another life for the time being my condolences on your loss
@@Zennofobic I'm giving myself one month for every year my baby was with me, and then I'll see what I'm ready for
Welcome back! Happy to see more content in the horizon. I've been a follower for a few years now but I never had pets of my own. In June 2022, I picked up a very sick and elderly cat off the streets because no one wanted to take him home or deal with quarantining him away from their other cats. He had bad skin and respiratory infections, tons of digestive issues and was days away from dying.
I put my best efforts in pulling him through but then we got the bad news, he had cancer (lymphoma). I was absolutely devastated. I had waited my whole life to own a cat, and this was the sweetest, most affectionate boy you could ever wish for. I cried into his belly and begged for him to stay and live the good indoor life he had never had. And somehow, he bounced back! We put him on prednisone as palliative care, but it worked miraculously well and has well surpassed his life expectancy for over a year at this point. His name is Sigma and he's the most pampered grandpa in the world. And I learned to take care of him with your videos, so I'll always be thankful for that.❤
Good for you, I too rescued a beautiful little tortie that nobody wanted and she's been the most wonderful little friend I've ever had. The shelter said she,d probably never be totally social but I didn't care. It was hardly a week and she opened up so much you would of never believed she'd been locked up for over three years, only to breed. I've had her a year and half , She's gone from barely 6 pounds to about 10 and is just loving life and getting to be a kitten she never got to be.
Dude it’s great that Pirate & Lancelot are still doing good and chilling out , this video does make me smile 👍
Nice.
@@HelpfulVancouverVet and of course it’s good to see that you’re doing well too, congratulations on having a kid as well😁👍
Return of the king
I assume you mean Sir Lancelot :-)
@@HelpfulVancouverVet 😂
Because of you, I talked my partner into getting out cat 's blood tested, even though he wasn't showing any symptoms. we got him when he was 9 from the shelter and don't know too much about his life from before. Because we did the blood work early, we caught the very beginning stages of kidney disease. I'm so glad I stumbled upon your videos :) Thank you!
Nice! Hope you aren't having any trouble managing it!
I just wanted to share with you that your "cat massage" video from a few years ago sent me and Tallulah down a road of connection and trust. She's always been a love-you-from-a-distance cat, but I started giving her daily massages for her arthritis, and now it's a nighttime routine of massage, pets, chest-to-chest cuddles, face-to-face sniffs, and she now sleeps by my head. I'm stunned she's become so open to touch, and so grateful to you. Thank you so much Dr Yuri!
Congratulations on the baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great to see you again!
More to come (videos, not babies).
Well, maybe babies too...
This is for me the most useful TH-cam channel for information on cats that I've seen, for a first time cat owner myself
Glad it was helpful!
Squish that cat was honestly the most helpful video. I’m raising my first cat and he’s young and healthy, but super squirmy whenever he gets his nails cut, needs drops, etc.
Squishing him for his own good, knowing I’m not hurting him has been so nice.
Dr. Uri was instrumental in knowing how to handle my Sister's cat's Renal failure
Knowing what his options were & what those options entail helped in making compassionate decisions for all concerned
You make the World a Better Place for us All Dr. Uri❣
💯
Sending Great Gratitude & Appreciation, Big Blessings & Love, Many Mercies & Joy, All the Compassion & Luck🍀🙏❤
May All be free from Suffering
Thank you so much for sharing that, makes my day a little brighter.
Unfortunately my 18yo cat had to be put to sleep on Monday but your videos really helped me understand all her old lady illnesses as they popped up. Squishing her was sadly not to her liking but she was always very clear about her likes and dislikes! Its great to see you back! ❤
I’m sorry for your loss. 😿🌈❤️
@@janeblackbird6160 thank you ❤️It was hard and I miss her horribly. Nothing can prepare you for that choice no matter how much you expect it. We gave her a great final few days tho. All her favourite foods and the peace and quiet she always loved!
I'm so sorry. It's the hardest thing.
@@rorothedragonshroomie2760 Nice send-off you gave her👍 There are more waiting😸😻
@@rorothedragonshroomie2760I’m so, so sorry. I had to make the same choice for my 18yo girl in August and it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I hope knowing you gave her a great final few days is a comfort as you grieve.❤ (and your girl sounds similar to mine! always in charge, always knew exactly what she wanted and did not hesitate to tell anyone haha!)
Time to say thank you for helping me with my adopted senior cat, Oddsy. You taught me how to give him pills, maintain hydration and deal with arthritis. He turned 17 on 5 November 2023 and is still enjoying life despite heart problems. The staff at the vet practice say Oddsy has more than 9 lives having survived being abandoned, jaundice and heart failure. For the last two years he hasn't been home alone except for shopping trips and when I broke a hip in an accident. Luckily he has a backup carer for emergencies like that. I don't know how long Oddsy has left but he knows he is loved and which other cat households he can visit. He can still leap between the floor and the kitchen worktop and does a flying leap to reach the back of his armchair.
By the way, a hotel/restaurant near me has a ginger cat called Lancelot who sleeps under tables and sometimes honours guests by helping them with their breakfasts. Lancelot only has half a tail but the story of that must be a secret. There's a water bowl with his name on it near the stairs.
Thanks to you and Lancelot once again.
Having a backup carer is so important! My girls are 17 and 18.
Have you tried Solensia for his arthritis? It has helped so much with my Nisse's arthritis. He's like a new cat.
@@Valdagast Yes, he has a Solensia injection once a month. It works very well. His main problem now is heart failure, sadly.
I'm so happy to see Sir Lancelot and Mr Pirate! Congratulations on your child! It's amazing how many balls you've been keeping in the air- I'm glad you managed to find time to give us an update ❤
Thank you for your videos!
This channel has indeed been SUPER helpful. My cats are super healthy.
I found your suggestion to have yearly labs done on our cats so we can detect decreased kidney function earlier in their lives. Being proactive instead of reactive.
That's great. One of my upcoming vids is how to save $20,000 on vet bills, and early diagnosis is a big part of that.
I'm also doing the same with my cat! one of the best decisions ever!!
Nice to see that Lancelot has grown out his "humiliating" lion cut! 😊
Summer is coming up...
I discovered you with your "How to Pill a Cat" video when my 6 month old kitten had abdominal surgery when she swallowed a foreign object, and of course needed oral medication in her recovery. The video was easy to follow, and myself and my kitten got used to it very easily! It was much easier to do than I thought and it built a bond of trust between her and I in to her adult years.
I just lost my ~15 year old cat to kidney disease about three weeks ago. Your videos on giving subcutaneous fluids and how to give cats medicine were so very helpful in caring for her in the last year and a half of her life. I adopted her and her littermate when they were ~13 years old, and I made sure to watch your videos on caring for seniors in advance. This really helped me prepare myself for what to expect. Rescuing two senior cats together was the most rewarding thing and most love filled endeavor I've ever undertaken, and thanks to content from your channel, I was able to give my sweet girls the best last years they could have had. Thank you for your educational content, it is so very helpful!!
Also I always love to see Mr. Pirate, I love his sweet face!
congratulations to you and your wife on the baby 😊🩷 your videos helped me by starting to get regular bloodwork done for my Mei, we've been doing it for the past 2 years and she's going for her next checkup in a couple of months. based on the first year results I made some changes to her diet and the next year certain values had improved (like her kidneys) and it felt so rewarding and reassuring. she's turning 10 this year and I hope she stays healthy forever 😸 I cannot recommend getting regular bloodwork done enough!!
Nice to hear, and thank you for sharing! Its so counter-intuitive to most people that doing more work/spending some money on your pet's health actually reduces the overall lifetime cost and effort of keeping them healthy, happy and around for longer, so personal stories really help.
I just like to listen to you talking about pets ❤ Please keep doing these videos!
Congrats on the baby, nice to see you two back !
Congrats on the baby :D
Great to hear from you. Your channel has all of the wholesomeness of Mr Rogers Neighborhood, and it always brightens my day :D
My cat loves being squished and I love squishing her. Thanks again for the tip.
Hello from Bellingham WA ❤ my daughter and her husband got their first cat, a 4 year old rescue in 2019. Fortunately, we quickly found your videos and watched many to help them learn to care for their first pet and help his transition to our home. I assure you Emperor Hugo of Area Rug thinks he owns the house and we are his servants. A very happily ever after story because of your help. We adore you❣️
I don't have any pets, but your lecture about the human-animal connection throughout history and culture is incredibly fascinating! Gives a great perspective on the many roles animals play in our lives.
I'm glad that this little foray off the beaten track found an audience! I have another lecture on the history of veterinary medicine that I'd love to publish.
So glad to see you again. You’re like the Mr. Rogers of cats, and you have such a caring, calm demeanor.
Congratulations on the new baby! Love the videos, I always learned new things like how to gauge if my cat is chonky...he is.
On the bright side, mild chonkieness increases survival in renal disease so you know... as long as he is not too fat its probably ok.
Congrats on the new addition.
Squish dat baby!! 😂
Happy to leave a comment. Your video describing IBD and the differences between it and Lymphoma was amazingly helpful to me during a very stressful time. It described what IBD was and what to expect in an easy to understand way that did not intimidate me. I thought so highly of it that I actually mentioned it and your channel in a video I made about my cat Katniss being diagnosed with IBD last year. Also your comments in a separate video about cats' nutritional intelligence and why owners shouldn't panic every time a cat might not finish a meal really helped comfort me. Thank you!!!!
I missed lacelot a lot and he is so handsome. So glad to see all your kitties at the end of the video.
Your video on how to give an older cat a back massage has brought much relief and purrs to my old boy Spook!
Your cat squeezing video allowed me to repair my relationship with felines! It shed a lot of light on cat mechanics and I felt far more comfortable with cats of my friends and family ever since!
Can’t denied that I miss your voice 😊 glad to see you and the furry friends! Congrats on your baby also 😇
I've never squished that Like button faster or harder!
What a lovely surprise update!! Welcome back and congratulations on the little one!
I'm so excited to see what you have planned. Your videos about cat care and skills have been invaluable to us this past year as we navigate caring for our first cat! Mere HOURS before this update, we were just watching your video on how to feed our cat oral medication, and it really helped pull us through ❤
Congrats, doc! Glad you're getting some sleep again. Kids - you're a better man than I.
Congrats to you and your wife! It's good to hear you and your fam doing well. And thank you for coming back, so nice to see you and your fluffy gang again
Thank you so much!
Dang…. I’m here for Mr. Pirate & there wasn’t an update!!! I saw him at the end, but is that an old video clip? WHERE IS MR. PIRATE???
On the chair, chilling. He'll feature in some of my upcoming vids, don't worry!
@HelpfulVancouverVet - Thank you so much!! I was about to send a letter with cut out words from a magazine like an old school ransom note, just to inquire about Mr. Pirate. Sure, I have my own cat Scrappy, who is 14 years old & sort of looks like Mr. Pirate, so maybe I need to mind my own cat business, right? Well, I’m nosy, just like a cat! 🤣🤣🤣
Hey, hi!Was wondering if you guys are doing ok! Glad to hear from you!
Old cats are one of the best things in the universe. Thank you for taking good care of Lancelot.
Mr Nick turns 24 this year! Welcome back and congratulations 🎉on your new addition to the family
Amazing!
Has it really been a year and a half?!?! Sir Lancelot and Mr. Pirate are beautiful and I love them. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Welcome back!! I really missed your videos and glad to know you have been doing fine
Thank you!
Oh my gosh congratulations on the baby!! I'm so so glad Mr. P is doing ok. My soulcat passed in October and I have been devastated. I missed you and your furry friends.
WooHoo! Welcome back Dr. Yuri & Sir Lancelot! So great to see you again. I’ve always enjoyed your TH-cam channel. I’m “Mom” to two beautiful, loving felines & have learned much from you. So happy for you, your wife & your sweet baby girl! 💗 The best reason ever for taking a break from here. Love from Winnipeg 🇨🇦
I'm so glad you're back! You helped me pill my cat and extended his life. He lived to be 15yo. Thanks for all you do, and congrats on the new baby!
I feel much more confident interacting with my cats and giving them medicine because of your channel. Thank you, Dr. Uri!
reasonably helpful? That's underselling yourself! Congratulations on the new family addition!
Glad to see you back, and congratulations on the baby!
Thank You for your wonderful videos! ❤ Sir Lancelot is so gorgeous!!❤
Hi from the Netherlands!
Aaaah, so happy to hear your family extended with a baby girl! 🙏🏾 Congratulations! What a beautiful blessing from the Lord.
I stumbled upon this YT channel while looking for information about kittens and their drinking behavior. Because of one of your videos I bought a Pet Libro water fountain and our kittens Boaz and his sister Zoë are drinking way more right now. A big thank you for sharing that!
I like how humble and easygoing you are. You also know a lot! 🤓
Warm regards from my family to yours! 🌸
Your video about picking up cats definitely helped. My Samus hates being picked up and will fight to the death to be put down again, but I can usually keep her calm enough with a good holding position to get her to where I need her to be.
omg?! congrats to you and your wife doc!!! we were really worried when you went MIA, but its great to hear that you went missing for a delightful reason! congrats again!!
What i found invaluable was the video on pilling cats! It was a bit before my girls arthritis got bad enough she needed medication. I have had friends and others be totally shocked at how easy it is to give her pills. I refer everyone that opens a cat to that video and the channel.
I discovered your channel when my cat Abigail was diagnosed with intestinal cancer. We needed help pilling her and giving her insulin injections. She's since passed, but your advice was invaluable in making her final year as comfortable as possible.
I bought your “squish that cat” mug and whenever I use it I smile!
I am the owner of two cats so I enjoy your helpful tips about kitties! Congratulations to you and your wife on the baby !! I look forward to seeing new videos !
I really like how those came out!. Thanks for your support and the positive vibes.
Congratulations! I got my first cat almost four years ago and was very nervous about many things. I was always a dog person so pet stuff wasn't new, but cat stuff certainly was! Your videos have helped me to feel confident in taking preventative care of him (especially clipping nails and making sure he is hydrated enough, even though he is not a big fan of drinking water).
Congratulations on the baby!!! I was just thinking about this channel earlier today! I know it's the video everyone has a little laugh with but Squish That Cat really did help me!
I am pleased that Sir Lancelot is really only semi-retired. Our vet of many years had a resident cat named Ollie (actually nickname for Olivia, but her ginger coat misled many clients) that remained in her retired position as reception resident for several years, sleeping more often and greeting only her favorites until she was clearly no longer comfortable there. Her pre-retirement job wasn't very different, except that she was also a watch cat and teaching aid.
Welcome back! I've been missing your presence on TH-cam as I love watching your videos.
I have 2 senior cats who both got a diagnosis of early CKD and one of them got a diagnosis of hyperthyroidism. I had never had to deal with that kind of situation before and wanted to learn more because I was really scared of what that could mean. My cats and I are very attached to each other. One of them had been abandoned and the other one is her daughter, which she gave birth to next to my bedside. I'm grateful to have very nice and helpful vets for them. Your videos have been a precious addition to their recommendations, have helped me understand the importance of blood tests and have given me the hope for more years with my cats. Now I'm more at peace with their diseases, knowing that I have an important role to play in how long they'll be here with me ❤
By the way, I'm happy to see that Mr. Pirate is still with you!
I could cry a thousand tears for Mr Pirate
As a rescue pet parent for the past 24 years, your instructional and informative videos have been indispensable. Everything from squishing, nail trimming and piling have been implemented with (mostly) confidence. At any given time we have 5 to 12 rescues who come to us with various physical and emotional issues. We love our local vet, but nothing compares to going back for a refresher video on nail clipping. Thank you and we have missed you. Congratulations on your precious daughter.
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! Lancelot looks as handsome as ever! So good to see you back in action! All your knowledge is appreciated and we are all grateful for you sharing it with us! ♥️♥️♥️
a few videos of yours have helped me learn to be more attuned to my cats wants and needs.
my cat Clyde passed in early 2022 due to cancer and in late 2022 I adopted my current boy Blueberry from my (this is a handful) brother's foster sister's bio sister. (cat had a litter of kittens who needed homes) Clyde had a brother Walle (who is now 17) and my brother 3 months prior to me adopted his cat Chester from our bio mom (same situation as before)
your nail trimming video was extremely helpful for me and your belly petting video has made it much easier to pet my furry companions! there are probably many more instances where I've learned things from your videos that I'm forgetting but those are the ones I do remember.
Congrats Dr. Burnstyn! One of my cats lived a hard life before coming into my household, so she is quite skittish. Squish That Cat helped me handle her without hurting her and without fear that I will hurt her.
my cat passed away, but the videos on caring for older cats and kidney disease in cats were helpful in making his time with me as comfortable as possible (he was already older with health issues when the cat distribution system dropped him in my lap).
The legend, the cat vet. IS Back!
A fun way to return to TH-cam would to be a Q&A livestream
If you check the archives you'll see I've done a fair number of those. I actually plan to do one in the next few weeks, just haven't decided on a day yet.
Which day of the week should I do a live stream? Leave a comment!
I'm so relieved Mr.Pirate is doing ok
Oh. How lovely to see you. Bloody congratulations mate. Happy baby to you and yours. That’s so wonderful. You helped me with kidney issues my little sweetheart buddy had before she went home to God. I really appreciated it. I can’t believe Mr Pirate is still kicking on. Ouch it hurts when the closest one ever to you, goes. (My girl was nearly 20 ). Hole in my soul. All the best mate, from Australia
Great seeing Mr. Pirate, Clawdia (in the end footage) & Lancelot. Very glad you're back at whatever pace that will be.
yay welcome back!
I came here for Mr Pirate (my favourite Australian), was not disappointed!
I just found your channel today and when I saw the first video was 5 years old I had to come watch this and make sure Mr Pirate was still okay 😂
Dr. Uri, I, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your work.
First discovered your video in 2018, which help feeding my 2 cat taking pill.
Your vid also help me realized being a vet is also stressful not just my own career, tks for that I treat my local vet with more kindness and understanding.
Now 1 of 2 (male, 10) got Hyperthyroidism. Your vid suggest Iodine but being a 3rd world, vet dont have that option. Taking T4 pill mean his kidney got worse, then gotta stop for kidney treatment, urine blockage. It's a cycle that draining all my financial saving.
Now I'm looking for vet who accept Euthanasia since the current vet refused.
Still cry seeing my cat not who he used to be, being called "insane" by family & friends for risking everything for a cat, but it's a struggle I gotta fight.
If you ever read this, stay strong with your work, and thank you for your help.
Congratulations!! Know you've been missed! Update when you can. We always enjoy your videos.
I loved how you showed us cats are calmer when carried if you "squish" them nice and firmly!
Good to see you, helpful Vancouver vet! Congrats on the baby! I am still squishing my cat. 🥰
I clicked on the video remembering you had a baby... Thought that baby would be taking time.
Thanks for all the positive energy all the time!
Big hug, Vancouver team!!!
Knowing how to Squish that Cat helped immensely when we suddenly went from zero to one to three kitties in our family lol
My Mr Cat sends thanks for teaching me how to squish him properly!
First, congratulations on your new baby. Second, glad to see you are doing well and being able to return to make more youtube videos.
Vets are so Wonderful
I was privileged to have had some Awesome Vets in my life who looked after my Furry Angels
Congratulations to you and your wife! We have missed you. So happy to hear about your success. You have made a huge difference in my relationship with my two kitties. I have an indoor rescue who is a polydactyl and a feral kitty. Feral came with my condo and lives on my patio. I am still trying to convince her to come indoors. Please don’t be a stranger. Looking forward to hearing from you again soon.
It's so great to hear that you've been doing well! Congratulations on the baby, and thanks for all of your wonderful videos. I'm so glad you mentioned your Patreon because I didn't know that was something you were doing. (Idk how I missed it, I've watched and rewatched so many of your videos lol)
Your video about pilling cats really helped. My cat now comes when I call to get her pill and seems not to mind it at all. Actually, all three cats come because they all get a treat.😻They also remind me when it is pill time.
You're a busy man, helping so many people. That's so cool!
Great to have you back ! And your kitties too !
It's a bit late, but here's a comment for the algo.
Glad to see Mr. Pirate and Clawdia at the end there. 😊
Your videos are fun to watch and helpful! Congrats on your baby daughter!
You helped me give pills and liquid meds to my elderly cat who is still going strong, as well as help her and her younger brother become better playmates. Me and my cats thank you so much!
Welcome back...meow!
Congratulations on parenthood of a human! 🎉 Lovely to see MrPirate❤ Thanks for the update❤
So happy to see you back! I extended my cat’s life for several years with the help of “How to give you cats fluids at home.”
Thanks to you, I can now clip claws with the best of them. Thanks!
