I agree - the Matte finish on that, combined with it's longevity is perfect for trim, especially on a dark/black vehicle. Makes the trim stand out and pop...
I had ordered forever black from Amazon and then I saw this video and how this stuff fails, so I returned it and just today placed an order for Cerakote using the link in this page. Thanks for the awesome unbiased reviews!
I especially appreciate the comparison of gloss… Would be cool to get further comparison between the products that are still holding up because it’s a bit hard to tell how glossy each is on screen… Though I can tell when you point it out! Cheers
Thank you so much for doing all these tests. I just made my purchase based on your results. I used to use Solution Finish but now I see the error of my ways! Thanks again for all the great content!!!
@@narutobroken - I bought the Cerakote wipes to give them a shot. My wife has an Escape that I've used Solution Finish on in the past. It looked nice for about a month or two and then faded to what it looked like pre-application within 6 months. According to these tests, Cerakote and Wipe New are pretty good while being pretty affordable. I'm going to try the Cerakote wipes on my wife's Escape as well as our Winnebago trailer...hopefully I have similar results as in this video.
Malco Epic Revive Nu. Gotta love the way it performed of both black and grey surfaces. Then again Wipe New and Cerakote look very good just with a different finish. This video series is how I found your channel and these results are pretty conclusive. Can’t wait for your glass coatings series!
I'm not sure I'd go with any of the dye-based products, just for the additional flexibility with different shades of trim. Having said that, taking price into account, here's my top 3: Cerakote, Malco, Wipe New (I've noticed some streaking that I'm not a fan of, but it's a damn good deal!)
Have you ever tried "penetrol"? It's an oil based paint additive. You can get a quart for $10 and it lasts for 6-12 months on my crappy wrangler plastics. It's also good for restoring faded boat gelcoat.
I recently purchased the Lonestar trim to try out. I was so impressed with their tire coating I figured it'd worth a try. Has anyone tried their trim product?
That black stuff, Cerakote, and wipe new... In that order. What's nuts, is that I've seen these all get *some* bad reviews (with damning photos attached) showing the product has made the plastic even whiter or have left streaks white/black looking like an uneven application... But it wasn't. It's enough to get me tad concerned maybe it's the type of plastic?! The last thing I'd want to do is ruin my trim while trying to protect it. Would you be willing to setup a smaller test with a few different types of plastic/rubber trim?
1 Black stuff 2 Cerakote - I’m using it, 2 Wipe New…… Great video Scott!! Question: I’m living at Juarez Mx, border with El Paso, we have light rain dusty winds.. therefore watermarks with dust, HOW DO YOU ELIMINATE THIS??? Thanks!!!
@@ScottHD I used TLC ceratrim before and even a week or 2 later it was slick as glass. I wonder about "dye transfer" as well. If you applied these to a panel, waited a few days then white rag tested it, kind of like the fling test you did with the tire dressings.
It did solid but ultimately not what i’m looking for and my wife’s care has lighter trim color which would look funky with the dye job. I’m impressed how it held up in the UV and rain but would want to do a better job on my cars if going to put time into restoring the plastic bits.
1) that black stuff 2)cerakote 3) wipe new. That black stuff because of the matte finish.

Why not shine supply black paint? That is equally as good as that black stuff?
Cerakote for me. Looking good on my camper and truck trims. Thanks for the video!
putting a like on every video I watch because you deserve it 101% I am grateful for all the info you gave us THANKS
You're very welcome!

You're welcome. We had been using solution finish as well.
What did you buy?

Great point.

malco epic revive looks the best to me and the most natural
Cost way to much compared to the black stuff, cerakote, or wipe new with minimal advantage, if any.
was hoping the Griots trim product would be on this test. I also just tried Jay Leno’s trim restore today, lets see if it lasts
Just found you, thanks for the great videos!
I’d go with Malco Epic Revive to support the home team since I live in Ohio
And also the most cost effective as the other offerings cost a lot more to use. This would be my choice for standard detailing work.
Very good review.
MALCO EPIC REVIVE! A lot of comments say its too expensive compared to Cerakote or Wipe New, but you are getting a 16oz botte for $36 vs 10 wipes $20
That's the way I see it too. It's a huge bottle
I recently purchased the Lonestar trim to try out. I was so impressed with their tire coating I figured it'd worth a try. Has anyone tried their trim product?
I have! It's in my other trim test "22 way ceramic trim coatings"

Shoe dye! Then add a UV sealant / wax / ceramic coat! thoughts??
Definitely something I will play with and see!
That black stuff and cerakote
#1- Wipe New #2- Malco # 3- That Black stuff.
Cerakote n solution finish
boiled linseed oil + paint thinner 1:1
Scott, have you tried Blak renew protect ? Just wondering as my go to was Solutions Finish
I hadn't heard of that. I'll look into it. We had been using solution finish in our shop for several years
1 Black stuff 2 Cerakote - I’m using it, 2 Wipe New…… Great video Scott!!

Would love to get my hans on That Black stuff. Can anyone help me find some in the eu market?
Black stuff!!
Are any of these "greasy"? I am looking to redo my step bar pads and don't want the step pads to be slippery.
I would say after they dry/cure, they are all good. Right after, I'd be careful.

One obligatory downvote from our man Man. I would go with cerakote, shoe dye and wipe new.
Always! You know I got under his skin when the truth came out!
Why is everyone sleeping on kiwi shoe dye?
