    IMPORTANT: I do not say you need a second hard drive to mod Skyrim.
    A second drive is a way around having to reinstall Steam if it’s inside Program Files already via a second Steam library.
    1. To mod Skyrim successfully, you need to install Skyrim outside of Program Files
    2. You can create a second library to avoid reinstalling Steam *but* you can only have 1 Steam Library per drive
    So, if you have a second drive, you can install a second Steam library on it to avoid uninstalling and reinstalling Steam to essentially move it outside of Program Files
    Footnote: in the best interests of transparency, I am aware that moving Steam manually has been successful for some people. However, I simply do not have the data to suggest this is a 100% foolproof method therefore I am unwilling to recommend it.

      So if I have the whole Steam app and library installed outside of Program Files, then I do not need a second drive, correct?

      @@ADHDecent Steam? do you mean the market stuff or no?

    • @machscga6238
      @machscga6238 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @rubotok3703 The market stuff? Are you on consoles or something?
      Bethesda's creation market has nothing to do with the mods he is talking about.
      If your on console you only get the mods Bethesda allows you to have. Through their "creations"... which is Bethesda's market place.
      The Mods he is talking about installing are more advanced mods then Bethesda allows in their "creations". These more advanced mods require SKSE and other patches and fixes, and are only available for PC users.
      If your on Xbox or Playstation you only have 1 game store to buy your game in the first place, but PC users have miltiple game stores. Imagine if you had 1 machine that had both the Xbox store and Playstation store on the same device and you could switch between the two.
      The game stores on PC Steam, GOG, and Epic games. Like to install themselves and the games into "program files" or "Program files (x86)".
      Inorder to properly mod the game the game CAN NOT be installed in these directories and its also preferred if Steam is not installed here either.
      We say Steam because it's the store we and most Skyrim PC players use... but the same advice goes for GOG and Epic.

I just threw up my hands in frustration with my Xbox Skyrim mere weeks ago and bought my new gaming desktop specifically for modding Skyrim. I am delighted with my good fortune to find your videos here. I’ve already watched the first 8 videos and I’m now starting my process and now I’ve run into my first snag during video #1:
    When I attempt to follow the directions to create the SSE shortcut, I go into my gaming file, then steam, steamapps, and common, the only file that is in common is Steamworks Shared; nothing else. However, when I go into my D-drive and open my SteamLibrary there and follow your directions there, then I find it. Is that where I’m supposed to create the shortcut, when cut/paste it back into my Skyrim Gaming Hub file in my C drive?

    Is it vital to perform a clean install of Skyrim itself? Or could I successfully mod Skyrim by moving it from Program Files in steam, deleting any files associated with previous mod attempts/Vortex stuff, then completing the rest of the steps to install mods, thus keeping my save progress and still be able to install mods? I only plan on installing mods that improve the graphics, but nothing that will add features or change how the game functions outside of aesthetics. I never actually successfully modded Skyrim using Vortex in the past, I really only managed to click "manage game" and that's it. The only currently installed mods I have running on my most recent playthrough are the Creation Club mods available inside the game menu.

    My Steam unfortunately doesn't let me choose NOT to install in the program files - I am not sure what limitation is behind that. I went through every possible path but no luck. Equally, although I changed paths before, Steam always reverts back to what it wants (usually my OneDrive, which quite frankly, is super annoying). Maybe it's a Windows thing as well, I am on Win 10 (11 will never touch my PC! I made the mistake with my laptop. One mistake I came to regret a millions times over ...)

    Also wanted to add that in case it doesn’t go through the pop-up to detect video or detect you bought Anniversary Edition when you have, exit the game, right click in the library Skyrim Special Edition, go to properties, installed files, press verify integrity of files. Once all that is done close out of the properties window, launch the game, it should come up with the pop-up for detecting video quality and follow the video from there. At least that’s what happened for me. I may simply have had to exit and reenter the game and not even verify integrity of files.

    • @ADHDecent
      @ADHDecent  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This suggests your first attempt of a clean installation wasn’t in fact clean and some form of data was found from previous installations. Verifying essentially wipes any data that doesn’t directly match data in the actual game files. The fact it worked after verifying the game files means it found something somewhere. Don’t worry, it’s easily done which is why I’ve gone into depth in the video about it as many will believe simply “uninstalling” and “reinstalling” is enough.

      Well I uninstalled first and then went through the files to delete things. And I guess double checked that the documents folder for Skyrim got deleted along with making sure I didn't have the folder shortcut in my moding folder. Those three things are the only things I can think of outside of the main Skyrim folder and app data that may have caused what I ran into. If there is one thing I have certainly come across while reinstalling both Skyrim and my overall libraries outside of the program files, uninstalling is not the same as deleting and certainly doesn't necessarily include it. I guess I can also add I made sure my recycle bin was empty.

    • @ADHDecent
      @ADHDecent  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      1. It’s still valid and the guide is ongoing with constant testing
      2. The answer will depending on your modding abilities as you’d need to cross check compatibility and version numbers to ensure they’ll work. It’s doable but long winded. You’ll likely find mods that aren’t compatible and mods that require different versions. For me, I’d much rather bookmark the ones I like and start afresh to ensure there are no errors or corrupted data. Saved games are likely going to be unusable across different mod builds anyway so be prepared to start a new game too.

    Actually quick question. So I decided to really start fresh with this and actually possibly create a new folder to hold Skyrim on the main drive because that is the SSD whereas my storage drive is an HDD. So I would have Skyrim on the faster drive. Nonadvisable and just keep it on the secondary drive or fine to have it on the main drive outside of program files? But yeah, lately I've been thinking when I decide to upgrade from my 2080 super I may decide to go ahead and get another SSD hard drive as well.

    • @grandadmiralcorgi28
      @grandadmiralcorgi28 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Scratch that question I guess. Decided to watch the video in full screen while I let Steam move games I'm not playing much or aren't super resource intensive like Stardew onto the HDD and saw that you did essentially what I described through seeing the file locations.

    • @ADHDecent
      @ADHDecent  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      SSD will always have a fast R/W speed which is preferable when loading multiple mod files (especially when using MO2) so as long as it’s outside program files you’ll be fine and the game itself is only around 15gb so it’s not too large. Of course NVMe would be even better if that’s the case. You need to be using large graphic mods/ ENB / reshades or upscales to require demanding GPUs. I’m running a GTX 1660Ti OC which is a beaut in itself but it’s still dated and can handle increased population along with Dyndolod/ texture upgrading.

    • @grandadmiralcorgi28
      @grandadmiralcorgi28 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Currently my set-up is an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor, a 2080 8GB Super, and correction my main drive is NVME not SSD but the secondary is still HDD, with 16GB of ram. And I just looked and saw 433 GB was being used outside of Steam on the main drive so I think I should make sure documents, pictures, and videos are put on the secondary like I intended. Either way I still have a little over 300 GB of storage left on my main drive and my computer is only 3 or 4 years old and I really did invest in it when I got it built so I didn't have to worry about upgrading until a little further down the line from now. So I think I'll be fine. When I did have ENB and Dyndolod along with some textures installed when Skyrim was on the secondary I did notice a FPS hit but that was without any settings adjusted during the prisoner cart ride. So adjusting settings and moving it to another drive will hopefully make things better. But that testing is further down the road.

    This is a well presented series. One of the better quality productions on YT. However, the order structure is really screwy which is a major problem. And can be confusing. Most users are only trying to figure out mandatory essential mods. What they are and how to get them working. Just to be clear, no matter what, Skyrim requires mandatory essential mods. This is because the default retail has not been properly patch serviced by devs. No qol is not essential. However there are mods that are legitimately essential (mandatory).
    So what if a user just wants the bare necessities along with some bare minimum mods for graphics improvement? Nothing at all that affects the actual gameplay/game design. As in nothing more than simply fixing inherent problems and some graphics improvement. Thus, no qol, book covers, or anything else unnecessary (non-essential). Yes learning how to setup sections in MO250 is fundamental no matter what. But do we need to preemptively create all these sections in MO250 that we are never going to use? Hell no. Do we need Nemesis/XPMSSE and other mod specific prerequisites? Not unless we are installing a mod that requires it. So there's completely no reason at all to much of the initial setup in this video. When much of it is really not relevant to the intent of most users. Which is just using mods for no other reason than they are pretty much a system requirement, and to install only the mods absolutely required. Which would be the order to start with. Then followed up by explanations pertaining to further non-essential modding as you go.
    Just a suggestion if I'm not mistaken here. I noticed the Creation Club files were zipped up, dropped into downloads, and installed. However, afaik, this is not the optimal method of migrating those files. You only need to create a folder for them within the 'mods' folder of your MO250 Skyrim instance folder. Then, transfer all those files from their default location into that folder.
    That said. Well done series overall. Just that the ordering is way too convoluted for basic users interested in basic understanding of installing basic essential mods.

    • @ADHDecent
      @ADHDecent  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Appreciate the kind words thank you. The intention behind the guide is to teach people how to mod without assuming any previous experience or understanding.. That is, to actually cover the modding processes. Mod lists are a dime a dozen, but it's not where people have difficulty. It's knowing how it works, why it works and why it's needed.
      An 'essential' list doesn't really exist as such, apologies for being pedantic here: you mention mods that are absolutely required: the thing is, none are. The game works. Yes it may not be perfect, it has bugs and issues and isn't as smooth as it needs to be but the bottom line is all mods are optional as all mods improve the game to a degree (some more important than others, but none are a must). It's all relevant to the user. Of course, there are important ones and then pretty ones so to speak, but where one crosses into another will vary depending on who you ask.
      With the exception of my slight drift off course around EP8 or 9 which I later corrected, each video has been designed to work as part of the series as well as a standalone so there are simple guides covering each element for those needing to return to one area specifically in future, along with a series should you wish to go through them. When I began, I could find guides on things but I never knew if there was an order to follow or what I could choose/skip etc.
      Naturally, it boils down to finding a middle ground I think. It's tricky to do and I don't think it's possible to get right for the same reasons as above. But if I am able to help others begin their modding journeys I'm happy :-)
      Hope this has helped explain the reasoning behind all the decisions. And again, I am grateful to you for your support as it means everything to hear the production quality is of value.

      @@ADHDecent This is false about mods not being required just because a game is in functional enough condition to be released to the public.
      The most distinguishable example is Morrowind. Which never gained much popularity due to inaccessibility. Which is due to lack of developer maintenance/patches, and *requiring* community mods to fix. If you purchase Morrowind retail, it will function. But it will be full of major problems. Not just thousands upon thousands of technical glitches that were never addressed. Huge content issues and inconsistencies. Much of which would likely have at least fixed/improved drastically if maintained by devs. But actually fixed to excellent condition by unofficial and semi-official (developer) mods.
      You only need a handful of mods with a sort of emulator platform to get Morrowind to function in a condition so exceptional that it blows away other games in terms of functionality. As in a handful of mods (only for fixes) turning a disfunctional ugly duckling into a beautiful swan.
      It is completely unreasonable to try to claim that Skyrim SE retail functions to a standard of excellence without absolutely requiring some mods to fix. And claiming as if no mods exist. When evidence from my own experience proves otherwise. Along with others who have been running Skyrim flawlessly. Both games indeed have active communities who have exceeded devs at getting Elder Scrolls games functioning at top notch quality. All without any affect to the vanilla game itself beyond fixing problems.
      If there even exists any disagreement on which mods are better or worse to use for the purpose of fixing Skyrim for vanilla users, that's all and great. Yet nothing significant in consideration of common agreements about these. It is true enough, that despite being much larger/elaborate software, dev maintenance has made Skyrim a much more functional product that Morrowind. Yet it does not mean there are not mods that address inherent problems in the retail release.
      Fact = Skyrim retail is far from perfect condition, and continues to be full of major glitches devs have never addressed.
      Fact = Developers fixing all the glitches thoroughly and completely is absolutely necessary for anybody who owns the game.
      Fact = The above is not happening. However, there are mods that are just as, if not more effective than official developer improvement/testing. Which would be illogical to claim as any less absolutely necessary.
      Regardless of anything that is not essential to the game. Users simply need to have a decent explanation on their options for what is essential/mandatory/absolutely necessary to fix problems with the game, and basic info on how to implement it. So that they can be happy playing an exceptionally well functioning Skyrim.
      The entire point = not being convoluted by anything that isn't relevant to that. Any information on further non-essential mod options can follow.
      I hope I have made myself crystal clear here that Skyrim is not perfect. Devs are not doing what is necessary to fix problems. Developer incompetence does not make such fixes any less absolutely necessary for end users who deserve to play a product in the best possible excellent functional condition. Mods indeed exist for what is absolutely necessary to end users who paid for this product.
      Claiming a quality product is not required for users = false.

    • @ADHDecent
      @ADHDecent  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There's alot to unpack here but one bit that stood out to me was when referencing how fixes released by Modders have improved the game in a way the actual developers haven't which is absolutely spot on. On top of that, saying it would be illogical to claim as any less necessary is also a really good point. Should these fixes have come from the devs, we'd consider them necessary so the same should be said for such mods. I think it's a great way of saying it and has got me thinking.
      I think it may be from a perspective of making the guides that leads me to see a different interpretation of 'essential' is all. I remember a point where the game wouldn't launch at all and at that moment I would then consider a mod to fix that as essential as there would be no physical way of playing without it. Mods that require SKSE would mark SKSE as essential but only in terms of those mods. I'd like to just mention that I absolutely believe the base game itself has some serious flaws and issues with it. I'm merely stating its the difficulty in defining essential as the game (however problematic) launches and functions even if incredibly poorly. The way in which it does so is a reflection of the quality of product. I do see where you're coming from though as I believe dialogue on screen is essential for those hard of hearing and options for those with vision impairments as these are essential for many and I've seen them be overlooked in titles over the years.
      I will say without the modding community and some incredibly dedicated people out there determined on providing the best experience for gamers, it wouldn't have continued to thrive as well 12 years later.

      @divergentlife493 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@ADHDecent There really isn't much to unpack or difficult here. Or any need to try to overcomplicate anything for no reason. I explained about common consensus with pretty much negligible disagreements when it comes to patch/optimization mods. As well as fixing as much as possible.
      It's not rocket science and extremely simple. Beginners just want to fire up the game, play, and have fun. The game clearly has problems. Known (and possibly unknown). Either way, there are mods that are commonly understood to be effective at resolving known issues. As well as modders who are fervent about continued support. This is the only time mods become a consideration for most users. Essential mods = whatever minimum amount of mods offer important fixes to the game. You don't need to sit there caviling every single mod that fixes every single glitch.
      Hell, if you have no access to mods, playing the game pure vanilla isn't the end of the world. But the point is beginners with only interest to play a fully functional game. Bare essential mods that do nothing more than fix inherent problems with the game = playing a game that functions like a dream. And currently for Skyrim, it really only requires a few mods to do. That's it. Anything else is non-essential.
      Essential (mandatory/required) = bare minimum mods that fix problems and get the game running in excellent condition (and yes any possible requirements they may have like SKSE). That's it. No difficulties in understanding this for anybody who just wants to play the vanilla game as is, without any problems. Therefore, need nothing beyond bare essential mods to do so.

    • @ADHDecent
      @ADHDecent  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can’t buy the DLC without the base game anyway. So it’s either with or without the DLC. That’s really your call. If it were full price I wouldn’t bother with the DLC personally but on offer for an extra 6 isn’t bad. Again I can’t make that decision for you but to mod you’ll want the steam version :-)

      @@ADHDecent Thanks for quick response. Yes the steam version. Did you downgrade to v1.5.9 or v1.6.6? In your opinion is there anything in the AE version that there isn't already a mod for in the SE? If i purchased the AE version would the new stuff added still work if i downgraded to v1.5.9 for most mod support?

    • @ADHDecent
      @ADHDecent  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The version in the guide is the latest available. Version 1.6.1170 :-) the AE DLC offers a fair few additions. Some can be done with mods some can’t. If you’re in a position where the extra money isn’t a massive deal, it may be worth it just for the extra bits. But again it’s really up to you. You’ll find many for and many against buying the dlc aha

    I am so discouraged with Bethesda! I finally got rudimentary mods installed and turns out a recent update broke everything again! Why do updates break everything? I exaggerate but man does a lot break with even the smallest of updates! This is why I stopped playing Skyrim and it breaks my heart every time my mod order breaks! I am not super savvy so it is a long and tedious process for me to get things working! I think maybe rolling back to 5.97 (or whatever) might be the best thing to do but how long will mods continue to remain compatible with that version? So sad.

    • @ADHDecent
      @ADHDecent  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Zephrus! Yes, however, due to the version incompatibilities between GoG and Steam, the selection of working mods for the GoG version is not only much much smaller but also not necessarily fully functioning. I’m playing around with the GoG version when i have the time as I too would prefer said version but it’s a bit of a wild ride so far. Until I have something solid that would hold up I’m likely to simply mislead and frustrate viewers rather than help them (previous GoG videos became outdated rather fast and then didn’t work). I think it’s why no one’s covering it. But I do want to and will keep an eye on the progression
