People are leaving who aren't going to start. Most have their degrees with some eligibility left. No issue here

If Craig can't go, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get Knapp some reps. He doesn't look like he's ever going to be big enough to play guard and he's definitely not going to start at tackle going forward.

@ Agree. Right out of the blocks handled it well. I’d like another one addressing coaching/gm changes which frankly have me more concerned. Our Defense and our Depth carried us through and now those guys are gone. Thoughts?

@@David-ic4by in regards to the depth, I think Coogan is the only one that would be considered “mildly concerning.” He had a real chance to at least open the season as a starter, pending Ashton Craig’s health. Bare minimum I think he’d have been first off the bench at LG, C and RG. I think Pendleton had completely fallen out of favor with the staff, and ideally Spindler is more of a swing-type player than a starter. It’s always going to be difficult to keep that player around for a fifth year. With the WRs, both were by all reports incredible teammates and bought in to their roles well. But neither were likely to see significant roles next year. And, again, with them both being fifth year guys, it was going to be difficult to keep them around.
With the coaching, it was inevitable Al Golden was going to leave sooner or later. I think he views himself as a better fit at the NFL level. There may be growing pains next year, with him moving on and some of the older players leaving, but you have to know it will be a coveted job. Going back to Elko in 17, Golden’s 3 predecessors as ND dc’s are now P4 head coaches. It’s perhaps the best stepping-stone job in CFB.
With Bowden, I think there’s a disconnect between what the ND recruiting beat is saying (this is a massive loss) and what reality is. I’ve seen some rumblings that he didn’t necessarily handle the increase in responsibility he got this season all that well, and I think that bore itself out with how ND’s recruiting class finished. I don’t think it’s a coincidence this was the worst recruiting output of Freeman’s 4 years (1 as D , 3 as HC) and it coincided with Bowden’s promotion last offseason. I think he’ll do well at SC, but I also think ND is going to end up significantly upgrading at that position.
