  • Learn two ways to teach your dog how to do tight turns and pivots for all the Rally Moves. Looks much smoother and relaxed during competition.
    1. Shaping tighter turns
    2. Teaching your dog hind end awareness with a book
See also CARO Rally video 24 for pivots.

@cdrsolis Great to hear! I just started this with my new dog Lucy and she's got it, and even backs up to stay at heel when I pivot 180 degrees left! This is a dog that never had any previous training when I got her at 21 mos. I've had her just over 8 weeks now. I am amazed at her ability and willingness!

@niqi4eva Practice with the phone book and only select for the closest position. I find that it helps to have an image in your head of what you are looking for, then click anything that looks like its getting closer to that. After a while you can clikc only the closest positions. When she is offering what you want, then try it without the phone book. Good luck!

@xst4tus Animal Control Special. Mom was a ShepX (likely with a herding breed like BC or ACD) and best guess, dad was a Miniature Pinscher. She definitely has the terrier in her.

What is the URL for the "CARO Rally video 24"? Is there a newer URL for Sue Ailsby's training levels? (The dragonflylama link above isn't working.)

Donna Hill, re: 58 second mark, what do you do if the dog instead of moving hind feet, moves head only, so curves her body into a C without moving hind feet at all? I made my sideways motion tiny and shaped some very small movements of the hind feet, after that, and may just need to keep working through it, but wondered if you had a tip.

It means that you are waiting for too big of a behavior. You need to shape for tiny movements such as movement of just one foot a little, then a little hop etc. Keep clicking there unit you get more of the behavior. Try changing your position to see if that will help the dog figure it out. Alternating sides helps too.
