- Highlights of the first time Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal united on a doubles court. In the words of Tomas Berdych, one of the lesser lights on the European Laver Cup team: “Everyone was waiting for this moment since they announced this event is going to happen. This is the time. So I think it's almost like a celebration of tennis.” Federer and Nadal overcame Jack Sock and Sam Querrey to give Team Europe an important advantage in the penultimate day of the competition. Querrey and Sock made challenging opponents, particularly Sock, who won the Wimbledon doubles title in 2014 with his then partner Vasek Pospisil. After the match, Nadal said: "It was an unforgettable day, after the history behind us to be on the same part of the court fighting for the team is something we enjoyed a lot." Federer added: "For me, personally, it is a great moment too. We only ever practised once together, back at the World Tour Finals, so we don’t show each other a lot. We will always be rivals. But this was something very special, it was an absolute pleasure being on the court with Rafa and seeing his decision-making process. I understand that people only expect a win from us, but it’s very complicated, we’re playing indoors against the big servers, and I hadn’t played doubles for so long, I was trying to remember what to do. The two of us getting together, our two fan groups having to get together, that was interesting too. It was a success, but this isn’t just about us. The celebration of Rod Laver and having John and Bjorn there over-rides the doubles, but this was still an important moment for us."

basketball had Larry Bird and Magic Johnson as fierce rivals who co-dominated the 80s, also were friends off the court and played together on the Dream Team
As time goes by I think rivals tend to develope a kind of respect and secret admiration for its opponent.. I've seen this on Pele-Maradona, Larry Bird-Magc Johnson, Messi-Cristiano and so on

It is so heartwarming for me to see the two best players and life long rivals play as friends in one team of course winning.
I love how Federer and Nadal aren't smashing it every 5 seconds yet still are so good without being super agressive its kinda astonishing how much they can adapt to their opponents.

Honestly, we all know Federer has some of the best volleys in the ATP for singles players, but Nadal's volleys this match were top notch. Really shows how much he's developed since he first came on tour....his volleys, and serve for that matter, were atrocious. Love these two guys
Nadal is one of the best "finisher" close to the net. He is very acurate and effective

They used to do these types of games before. I remember seeing Batistuta and Ronaldo murdering team Europe with Zidane. I'm not sure why they stopped though. Would've been crazy to have seen an all star La Liga team when both Messi and Ronaldo played in La Liga against all star teams from other top leagues.

The absolute best tennis team one can think of.
Sock and Querrey, looking so tiny and ordinary 'on paper' against two of the GOATs and their legacy, did give the dream team a run to win the match by a hair. Being regular doubles players they were looking a relatively better-composed team as well. They just lost to the individual excellence of Federer and Nadal.

Nadal's topspin on the ball is unbelievable
You are looking at the 2 greatest players in history and one of them is the undisputed greatest lefty in history. Both are brilliant at the net. I hope they can really consider playing doubles together because I truly think they could be unstoppable and win several grand slams. Fed has maybe 2 years of truly competitive tennis left in him. Rafa probably about the same - maybe 3-4 years but hard courts are devastating to his knees so it's hard to say. I thought Rafa would be done at 28 given all the injuries he had incurred up until then and although he has continued to struggle with injuries, he continues to come back stronger than ever and I would say Rafa v. 2019 is maybe the greatest he has ever played and he has certainly outperformed Joko and Fed since 2017 winning 5 GS titles and 7 M1000 titles. He's 33 and still improving! I would be shocked if he wins less than 2 more FO titles.
