The missed story on this was Astudillo's excellent defensive move in catching what almost no other pitcher can get- a line drive up the middle to his left and then a zip throw to first base right on the money. You're supposed to take the 3-0 pitch as a strike it's a unwritten rule that is usually upheld whenever it's a blowout game. Yes they were goofing around with them but still why home one off a ball that you know he's going to to follow baseball rules and hit it home. It just looks cheap like he's boosting his stats which is what he did basically but swinging on a 3-0

As a Twins fan, I have no problem at all with the guy slugging a homerun. When you're at 3-0 and the pitcher's throwing at around 45 mph, why not go for it? Who cares what the score is? A lot of teams look closely at the stats, and a lot of these players are fighting to hold onto a spot on the roster.

If they gave him a real start, it would expose things MLB/pitchers don't want exposed! Pitchers are extremely talented, but it's not incredibly hard to do what they do...and I would know, I once was a Double A/Triple A outfielder.

He’s a trickster you don’t see this type of pitching now of days. They should use him sparingly like they are because (Nomo) trickster pitchers normally get figured out. Still fun to watch

Don’t get mad when someone hits a 450’ shot off him, that “unwritten rule” is stupid. You’re still playing, your hitters are still trying, don’t expect the other team to retreat just because you don’t want a person making $10million a year to pitch, to pitch.

I understand the old school baseball mentality that you shouldn't swing 3-0 when you are up by 10+ runs but in today's game when stats usually dictates how much you earn.. I don't blame Yermin for swinging.

    • @tylerschroeder3722

That's right. Not just salary, but we don't know what sort of incentives are in his contract. It's ridiculous to think that a professional athlete should quit putting out an effort just because his team is up big.
