As someone who genuinely does enjoy exploring the more macrabre and especially gorey ways one could portray in an art piece, I do agree that there should be a purpose in it and it shouldnt just be added for shock value on its own. Genuinely interesting philosophy on the topic, nice work!
I think it’s a lot of fun to explore too! It’s hard to say where the line is, especially since every artist is so different. My work is way too much for a lot of people, where I think it’s not even that intense. Thanks for the insight, slothman 💪
Unrelated but I love seeing how you draw your art way more than I should. I know I have showed you my attempts at your style on Twitter but seeing how you draw gives me more ways to draw my own stuff.
It’s so crazy to watch playbacks of the work! When I do traditional it’s a whole production to set everything up- digital art is so great to capture the whole process in detail. Either way thanks for watching dude, good luck with your work!
It's incredible how I remember myself feeling the same way you felt about that shrunken head (I still think it's curious how did you got a toy that you didn't want in the first place) but about other stuff, even later on as an adult, and yet I always wanted that exact same toy as a kid because I loved that episode. And I liked that episode precisely because I felt like it wasn't even a horror episode at all, but just a fun adventure. The same way, I remember being so traumatized by an episode of The New Addams Family that I had to go to a psychologist as a kid because of it, and yet some criticize that show for being too family friendly.
@@pitchcanker you've got the enthusiasm of a ring master, I LOVE IT You legit gave me "Caine from TADC" vibes with that one reply, but then the look at your artwork again Quite the irony in it
Not sure if you have thought of this but you should do like short films with your artstyle and make like animations, idk but I would love a show or short films with you’re artstyle
I have been thinking about doing a short illustration series based on The Masque of the Red Death- I’m not sure about animation but it would be cool to do illustrations with a voice over 🤔
Just was randomly recommended this video and I am so glad. I really want to lean into the more macabre stuff of my art because in a lot of other art forms of mine (writing, roleplaying, video-making etc) it’s definitely a key aspect… but it’s just hard for me to incorporate into my visual drawn art. I’ve realized that my only real exposure to this kind of art is thru mainstream horror movies and video games, media… that’s it. Maybe I need to dig more and look for more independent artists to study from… Your art is wonderful by the way!
It still feels like kind of a taboo subject outside of niche circles, but I’m happy to see so much mainstream acceptance lately! I feel like it comes in waves, where people are fascinated and become disgusted when it goes too far. I feel like slasher movies in the 80s are a good example of this, or video games in the 90’s-2000’s. Not sure what to make of it but maybe 2020-2030 will have a period like that!
Im not a gore person. I much prefer the disturbingness of a creature. I like to have the viewers of my art imagine what it is and what it can do rather than have it explicitly said or shown. I would rather have something capture the mind and have psychological impact rather than that physical disgust Also I know I've been commenting a bit, I really love your art man!!
I agree! I think I'd rather capture the feeling of terror than disgust. And I never mind reading/ responding to comments, so don't apologize, I love to see!
i love your art, i've always been drawn to slamming death metal cover art, it just terrorifies me in all the right ways, my personal favorite is the cover for Abominable Putridity's album The Anomalies Of Artificial Origin
love your macabre style! I think it's gorgeous and very educational about subversion of proportions to make art more impactful and interesting . also no artist should ever cater to the algorithm- whatever crusty auntie with puritan values is sitting at the head of TH-cam- clearly should not be there
I have a hard trouble understanding why gratuitious gore is not recommendable, I thought "free" stuff was a good thing 😅 I have seen several artist say that one should not go all out their way, and that makes me sad, because they are holding back to avoid the backlash from the judgment of people (even the platforms, as you mentioned), and that thought gets implanted in the artists mind. On the good side of things, I have also heard that artists made pretty good works -not "in spite of", but- because they had limitations in one way or another (I don't remember clear examples, but one could think of movies and videogames, like the fog in the first Silent Hill, the game could not render long distances in the town).
Hey dude I enjoy your content a lot and decided to buy something back in June with the expectation that it'd be here within 1-3 months. Its been stuck in shipped since god knows when and the app that was used in order to purchase your work doesn't have a way of letting me either cancel or message you about the details regarding the order. Is there anything I can do to reach out for some clarification regarding this order?
Hey dude! Shoot me an email at info@pitchcanker.com and we’ll get it resolved. We had some delays, so without knowing for sure that’s probably what has affected your order. Either way we’ll get you your order, thanks for supporting!
Long shot to ask here but I may as well, back around June 2023 you posted about opening an etsy shop for UK customers I was wondering if that link was to a false store page or a scammers as items ordered never arrived. Just want to know.

I remember recently that i was in a very bad place and i drew something disturbing and it, weirdly, made me happy.
People who are not in good mental states have always made the most disturbing art.
I used to do that a couple years back A LOT because I was constantly in a bad state. That sounds like you made some vent art.
