    Seeing these unfinished and abandoned games makes me somewhat sad. As a software developer, I do know how much heart and soul developers have probably put into these projects just for their work to be thrown away and forgotten.
    But making games is a business and unfortunately if the project no longer makes financial sense to release, it gets thrown away. Some projects do get a second chance (like True Crime: Hong Kong which was fully completed when it was cancelled by the publisher. Another publisher eventually published the game as Sleeping Dogs) but many simply get thrown away and forgotten.

    While the files are a great find, I have to admit that I'm much more impressed with the editing work you folks have done to them. Taking a bunch of random files on the hard disk (and elsewhere) and turning them into what could have been an awesome trailer for the game is truly impressive. If only they had you leading the team back in the day, maybe the games future would have been different.

    So it appears that "The Fairy Woods" was written for this game, then reused for Siege of Avalon and then again for Eschalon II - this tune sure weaves its way through the realm of obscure RPGs

    That game looks awesome. I love how cinematic that intro sequence was, and would have looked great coming so soon out of the 8-bit days. Considering retro-style games have rather made a comeback, particularly on platforms such as Steam, whoever has the source code should consider finishing it and putting it up for sale. Oh, and that soundtrack sounds amazing!

      It might worth to check if it is maybe easy to hack the automatic tech-demo to be able to use keyboard controls. It all depends on how "complete" the game mechanics are. Maybe it is not hard at all and just require minor disassembling and usage of dosbox debugger... Maybe if I will have endless time and wish... or others...

    • @u9vata
      @u9vata 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay.... I just downloaded the package and I see if you directly start WITCH.EXE you can indeed control the player in this demo version!

    WOAH. O_O I was a Bjorne Lynne fan from back in the AWE32 days. Had tons of MIDI+SBK files from this soundtrack, and eventually bought the CD (since there was no way I could compete with his high-end synths at the time). I hadn't really ever thought of the game itself, it was always about the music. But man, this has a Secret of Mana meets Phantasy Star vibe to it that makes me long for the days where it would have been possible for this to come out.
    I really miss 16-bit RPGs. Luckily I have a backlog that will last me two lifetimes.
